Humans Could Live For 1,000 Years by 2050—Ushering in the Dawn of ‘Practical Immortality,’ Futurists Say

  • Technology futurists foresee advances that will enable humans to live up to 1,000 years.
  • They anticipate breakthroughs in AI, robotics, and digital consciousness transfer that could make “practical immortality” a reality by mid-century.
  • A “techno-optimism” mindset fuels these predictions, but critics warn technology can’t address every problem and may create new ones, like unequal access.
  •

Some futurists believe that humanity is edging closer than ever to the possibility of “practical immortality.” These tech visionaries aren’t looking at an increased lifespan in the same way as mainstream longevity researchers, though, who are working to slow aging so we can live for up to a century in relatively good health. Instead, we can extend our natural lifespan by a factor of ten, according to science, technology, and medical visionaries like Ray Kurzweil, Ian Pearson, and Aubrey de Grey.

With the morons we see daily in person and in the news that is an horrific thought.

  • Amazing! I wonder how this could be achieved. I'm 79 ½ and I lose more power with every single passing day...

  • That will definitely bankrupt the welfare systems.

I just went for a massage on Soi 22 and met the first person to do so.

If you accept that the scientists that work at CERN and the JPL are not idiots, then we could all be living in what is a complex computer  game. Astro Physicists are now getting to grips with the concept that there are a multitude of realities existing in numerous planes.

Longest living animal is a shark and can get 500 years +-

anything is possible

By being a brain in a cyborg body.

The Terminator, Robocop, Darth Vader and the Borg are examples.

Sharks have immune systems which make them much less prone to cancer.

But, I think we all know older folk and how their actions changed with age, that includes myself and Trump........🤪

So, if it all revolves around a brain, I can't see it happening, unless the Chinese come up with an electronic replacement brain too..... 🤖

No human will get past 160.

That also have lived a few houndred millions years longer than us humans and to be exactly around 450 million years. They got their time to adjust, I do think humans will survive much longer than 10 000 years longer, since we stopped evolving naturally, and are now depended on technology, medicine and do not any longer adjust to environment. I might be wrong, but the fittest of the fittest might do in the future as well, but we are more vulnerable than many other species that actually have lived on theirs planet for millions of years without evolving much since then.

Our problem as humans is that we are the most complex organism on planet earth, and with complexity comes greater risk.

I remember an environmental scientist at a seminar long ago stating by the time a human hit 150, it would be statistically almost certain they would have metastatic cancer.

longest-living land animal is a Seychelles giant tortoise named Jonathan, who resides on the remote South Atlantic island of Saint Helena. He is estimated to be 192 years old as of 2024,

Oh, so we are the most complex arganism? Where do you have that from 😄

The longest-living animal on Earth is the glass sponge, with some specimens estimated to be over 15,000 years old, making them the oldest known living creatures.

Name another organism that is self-aware to the level humans are.

I can't think of any other species that has religions.

Mentally or physically?

DOGE found voters and SS recipients over 120 years old, so maybe...

Imagine retiring at age 65, then facing another 935 years of elder health insurance payments...  And I don't know about anyone else, but I shudder to think of sex with a 750 year old woman.

There is a difference between cognitive awareness and biological complexity and we really do not know much about the different life forms what they think, and what their abilities is. We sharing many of the same hierarchies patterns as many other animals and insects, so what really ties them together except from being the fittest of the fittest would be ignorance by us to think we are so special compared to every other living creatures.

After all we know F all, and that’s quite clear when you see how we exploit this planet and removes us selves from the eco system because we can and ruin our own planet which is our home, and only home we got
