Cheap water tank and pump?

Featured Replies

Hi

We've started renting a new house and the water pressure is low because there's no water tank and pump. The girlfriend doesn't mind but she grew up with the bucket shower. I need my small western pleasures. What's a cheap tank and pump we can have installed that doesn't feel like too much of a waste if we end up moving out in a year or two?

  • You’ll want at least a 350 watt pump for most plumbing configurations and depending how far the shower is from the pump, anything less than that probably won’t provide the “Western pleasures” for you

  • Then something is wrong, 350w pump will do a 3/4 story....

Divide that 140 - 180 bar by 100 and you will be good.

wouldn't go cheap, you're asking for issues, for somethings it's better to pay for quality, but, up to you.

You go to any construction shop and ask, and they come and install it for you

with heater if you need. Total cost 12k or so including a 1000l tank.

500 l tank from 1700 bath at Lazada

Water pump 800 - 4000 bath Lazada

Can get a decent Mitsubishi pump for around 3-4000bht I think.

Tanks depending on size you want but 1-3000bht is possible I think if not concerned with leaving it behind.

You'll find that you will get used to the big bucket of water to shower.

Shower with your girlfriend, it can be a lot of fun.

I don't think I would entertain a secondhand pump, you just don't know what you are buying. Pumps are relatively cheap, considering how long they usually last, buy new.

Tanks are cheap too, I personally would not entertain a stainless one, have seen weld seams rust. The poly tanks last forever, well mine has, and even they are cheap...

The first place I lived in here, I bought and fitted a pump, when I moved I sold it to the owner, told him I was taking it........😋

My house is 2 stories, pipework to 3 bathrooms, 2 double kitchen drainers and outside stuff. 250w pump, which is what the builders put in, and I replaced after 11 years....

My friends have bungalow's, 150w do the job.......

350w is as low as I can go and it’s barely just enough.

So you would fit a 350w pump in a bungalow......?..🥴

Why do they make, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, and 400w pumps.......?  🙄

Yeah, OP is looking for cheap. Often second hand items are in good condition and worth to buy giving them a second life.

Also, Pumps are easy to repair, same as tanks

They are expensive to repair if parts are needed, I am just doing a EP255r Mitsu....😬

Depending on use, distance, height, etc, Mitsu start at around 4,500 bht.....

Probably would, don’t like a wimpy shower.

To deliver adequate water pressure according to the cost effectiveness of the user. Most households here are used to low water pressure, it comes out of the pipes and it’s enough to kick in the water heater, so it’s good enough and that’s what they’ll sell you. My wife’s house in Lampang had a 250w, it was sufficient enough for her and she thought it was just fine until I replaced it with a 350w. The pressure is a little better at that house because the plumbing fixtures in the house are all on the same side of the house, opposed to the house in cm where things are spread out a bit more. Anyway, like a good gushing water flow in the shower and get it over with quickly, don’t much like a trickle of “adequate just enough” water in the shower.

A new impeller is just for a few Baht.

Also Chinese pumps are much cheaper, which is important for OP. Also they come with 3 years warranty if ordered at Lazada

there's also the constant pressure and  non constant pressure (with it's own pressure tank )

I replaced my 350 constant with a 355 non.  that has a "stainless steel tank"  not the yellow painted home version

night and day diff..  2 full baths ,3 toilets , kitchen sink w/hot water and a dishwasher,  2 washing machines (one is just for the dog blankets and towels ) , 8 outdoor hose bibs ..  furthest 60 meters from the pump and I have a 50m hose hooked to it to water the front of house gardens ..   plenty of ummmph !

Some seem  to have got the wrong end of the stick, what you are looking for is a low cost solution rather than "cheap".

To keep the cost down you need to keep the water volume down so best bet is to stick to a shower only arrangement. That being the case you would only need a small tank and pump, 500 litre and 100 watt pump would be sufficient.  I would suggest the constant pressure pump but the type with the tank would probably be a bit cheaper. You would also need a ball valve for the tank but some will supply that with the tank, something to bear in mind when looking at prices. I wouldn't bother about heating, just put the tank in the sun. My blue plastic tank has been in the sun for 16 years and although getting brittle, still in use.  I only put a heater in for the guest room.

I would also suggest trying to do it yourself, not a difficult installation without a heater. If you do not want to be going through the wall, easy enough to erect a cubicle outside. Overall,  I think could be done for around 6K baht. Good luck.

The output pressure on the 100 range is a bit less but the larger sizes are all the same pressure, if I remember right 140 - 180 bar.

The flow at outlets is a different thing altogether, dependent on restrictions and demand on the pump.

On the basis that only one outlet is on at a time a 250 pump should be adequate in a bungalow, mine certainly is, but a higher floor would probably need a 350 pump.

I have a 100 pump for watering the garden,  that sucks up about 6 metres from the well and with only a hose gives a very good jet of water.

All about system load on the pump.

That is a misleading statement. The pressure in the system would be exactly the same with both 250 and 350 pumps.

What you really mean is restrictions in the system  reduced the outlet flow from the 250 a bit more than from the 350.

It is not just a few baht, and the cover has to be replaced if the impeller has chewed it.

If you replace those, then replace the seals/spring assembly behind it......🙄

The cover alone is about 1000bht delivered..

I do wonder if you have ever taken one apart...But lets get back to what YOU said, "You need a 350w pump", which is daft.........🙄

For you and the OP.......

All these pumps provide I think provide 11.5 PSI, the wattage comes in regarding distance and elevation, pipe size will also play its part......

I didn't say anything about a 350w pump....😳

And yes, I got my garden pump repaired 3 weeks ago. Impeller replace parts from Temu. Including seals not even 260 Baht. If the cover is broken just glue it or tape it. Not more than 30 Baht

For you and OP actually
