Good article.

They forget to mention that nowadays,  there is a vaccine against HPV.

That vaccine didn't exist 40 years ago.

So that's a vaccine against throat cancer,  anal cancer,  cancer of the penis and cervical cancer.  The last one is almost always caused by HPV.

Everybody should be vaccinated before puberty, ie around age 10, boys and girls.

The vaccine (eg Cervarix) is easily available in Thailand,  but expensive (in rich countries,  it's paid for by the government). All private hospitals offer it, and can give more advice.

Foreigners taking care of kids in Thailand should take note.

A friend had a  small precancerous growth on the glans penis,  caused by HPV, when he was 29. Diagnosis by biopsy, treatment first with a cream that works like flamethrower,  and then by circumcision, all very exciting.
