Featured Replies

The Thais complain all year because tourism is collapsing and all the tourists are going to Vietnam, and now this news... It's getting ridiculous!

Should be fired. Telling lies

Thailand the hub of flip flop pie in the sky announcements 🙄🙈

Certainly confusion with the numbers

The Thai tourist board always looks on the positive side harping on about the rise in numbers 😀

Reality news outlets Hotels businesses ect saying its down 😱

Who is telling the truth 🫣

Soooooooooo. Which is it?

Is this down to one or more than the following:

a) Total incompetence.

b)Mental incapacity/

c) Numerical Dyslexia.

d) Brain Rot.

e): Bureaucratic Thainess.

f:) Fear for loss of face.

g) Panic.

h) Left Hand doesn't know what Right hand is doing.

The ever inconsistent Thai reporting, yesterday its down, today its up, Chinese numbers are down, now they are up! I live in Koh Samui and I would say the overall tourist numbers were up for June &  July with August looking good so one day these "bunnies" might get it right. Regarding chinese, I see very few in Samui, Chang Mai normally has more than their share of Chinese but this year I am told Chang Mai is well down. All year the media has been bleating about Chinese numbers being down but all of a sudden they lead the way so which is it or is it the usual manipulation of data to save face!!!

Mostly Chinese here in Pattaya, some with families in tow.

"Yes, should be filed"

Would it not make much more sense to have some sort of "Live" Tourist arrivals display, they could have it playing at all of the large outdoor TV screens they have for broadcasting overly loud  drivel to the populace.

It could show flight tracking data on the left side of the screen, with taxi movements in the centre of the screen and the fluctuating hotel rooms reflecting occupancy in real time.

Just imagine it..... "look look Somchai, another 3 arrivals from East Timor, oh great, they just booked in to the holiday inn, that's another 4000 Baht for us!"

"Quick, look at the monitor, 250 arrivals from UAE, and oh dear, 480 coming in from Mumbai, <deleted>!"

It could have line graphs, bar graphs, coloured labels, it would be like watching the stock ticker in real time as arrivals come flocking, swooping, diving, metamorphosizing, spontaneously appearing all over Thailands airports, up 25%, down 55$ up a touch, down 3, up 1 two steps forward 10 steps back......

Fantastic!

They should get the minister in charge of tourism, stick him in stocks on Sukhumvit and everytime the tourist arrivals drop, he gets smacked over the head with a hammer.

People who go to Vietnam go because they want a Vietnamese experience. I'm in Vietnam now, the energy is so different from Thailand. Impossible to compare.

Tourism is way down, ask anybody in the industry and they'll tell you that fact. We're getting seesaw information on a daily basis, up down, up down. The industry is hurting, restaurants are closing, hotel occupancy rates are way down and then an article like this is telling us that everything is rosy. Don't be concerned or worried!

The bottom line is that regardless of what the numbers are, tourists are spending considerably less, and Thailand is failing to attract a significant number of affluent tourists.

Have a look at the hotel room booking sites for early December to early January. First time I have seen such reduced availability. I believe Thailand will have a very busy high season.

I can see tomorrow's headline already  "Tourists numbers plummet  for the 11 august to the 14th"

Oh Magic 8 Ball what will tourism be next week....

Tourism numbers are down. We know it, they know it. Bar owners know it. Restaurant owners know it.

After America losing millions of tourists just now, it seems like those people now are visiting Scandinavia and Europe and places like Thailand. These people are new arrivals on these parts I guess, so be good and make sure they continue to come back!  😄🥳

Why do we keep getting this information, who cares,

One day they say one thing, and the next day they say the opposite.

One day they write an article about why tourism is plummeting, the next day they publish another one commenting on the explosive rise in tourism.

And the problem is that both are official government news.

Well I went to Jomtien for a three day break and what I saw tells a different story. From my balcony I counted 5 people on the beach and I could see for quite a distance. I walked along the beach for about 1km and one part did not even have any umbrellas let alone people. Restaurants were mostly empty with just a couple of people if they were lucky. So where are these tourists going?

Whatever it is it is obviously too much trash tourism.

Time to get back to the old days and concentrate their efforts back onto high quality western sex tourists, sexpats and budget backpackers.

Yesterdays news.

Thankfully by reading today’s news it looks like things have picked up again.

You're totally wrong. The Vietnamese economy is 100% capitalist and they have more drive than Thailand. It's a cultural trait that people like you would never understand.
