Thailand’s Immigration Bureau Revokes 10,000 Visas

The Immigration Bureau (IB) has cancelled nearly 10,000 temporary stay permits for foreign nationals due to non-compliance with visa regulations, according to the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI). The decision forms part of efforts to crack down on the misuse of student visas by those seeking illegal employment in Thailand.

Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol confirmed that Supachai Pathumnakul, the permanent secretary of MHESI, has discussed the matter with Pol Col Yos-aek Raksasuwan, the acting commander of the IB's Administration Division. They addressed the ministry's guidelines for short-term (non-degree) international student programs.

The discussions centred on the MHESI's criteria and procedures for non-degree courses as outlined in a 2025 announcement. A unified database system for international students in these courses will be developed to ensure compliance with educational operations and visa requirements.

Education institutions offering non-degree programmes must report on operations to the MHESI. These reports will help the IB assess and award temporary stay permits, aiming to prevent any misuse of visas for unlawful work purposes.

Additionally, educational institutes must monitor student attendance and provide monthly progress updates using MHESI's international student tracking system, reported the Bangkok Post.

The alignment of these procedures is part of a broader strategy to curtail the exploitation of Thailand’s student visa system.

By maintaining strict oversight and using a central database, authorities aim to ensure that international students abide by their visa conditions, focus solely on educational purposes, and not engage in unauthorised work.

Exactly, it's about time they start doing something about agents and IO's openly breaking immigration laws, get rid of all the dodgy VISA's being approved.

You seem to be suggesting that some immigration officers, who are part of the police are corrupt????

The visa if approved is not 'dodgy' its the application, the visas are valid!

With any luck they will start checking bank accounts of all involved, they would then get a clear picture of those gaming the system.

You obviously don't know how this country operates. It has nothing to do with education but decent people they want to keep in the country that contribute far more than those that stash money in the bank and sit on their ass all day and do nothing. Agents and those "officers" that have been approved can actually help even if it's not 100% legit. Worry more about the drug dealers and human traffickers that are here without any regulation.

Why? Does it affect you ?  A lot of retirees use agents , as they live on a pension, but they still spend all their money in Thailand, which is good for the economy and their families- here, but you the <deleted> has decided that’s not proper! Take a long walk of a pier…!

How about those with zero funds in the bank bribing officials via agents for extensions year after year?

Yaba dealing, does not affect me that does not mean it's wrong. Corrupt extensions is something they will crack down on in the end, will you be affected? Spending money here is no excuse for bribing officials.

It will happen and probably sooner than people think

While I applaud it this is so typical. Institute an I'll thought through plan to draw essentially tourists in and then when criminals abuse the system don't fix it - just <deleted> can the program. We saw this with weed as well. Same mindset. Everything to do with foreigners is managed this way.

Nevertheless, getting rid of all the riffraff influencers and criminal Chinese gotta be a plus.

Studying Thai was always sus. A dead language used by only 70M, not spoken outside the country, archaic script and grammar. Get your basics down and that's enough. Government offers no genuine incentive to residency

Muay Thai also suspect as is Thai cooking school. Should enroll in baking and pastry courses instead.

Now, if they can only clear out the brokies. 👍

If they only reason it's issued is payment being made that is corruption, if it were legal why not go into immigration and offer the bribe direct? Many are issued from provinces people have never even visited that's 100% illegal. Funny how people are against corruption, until they can benefit from it.

It's not enough if you actually have family and need to interact with anyone here. Good for your local shop but if you have to speak to anyone else (especially government) , actually knowing the language goes a long way. Some and I say some authorities will respect you for actually knowing and understanding the language. Makes their job easier. Those that actually go anywhere to study, either care and learn or drop and burn.

Because they are all just riffraff and bring nothing to the quality of life of Thais, Thailand or foreigners. Can go home and be a brokie. Here,  they can't even afford the price of admission.

Gone are the days of adventurers and gentlemen rouges. Here in Thailand for RnR before heading out to most remote parts of SEA still left. This lot sits on soi Bukhow/ lower Sukhumvit drinking their lives away. Living on Khao pad, Khao man gai and BBQ sticks. That's their entire world.

All true. It's simply no longer worth the effort and probably never was.

Or you could not live in a silly, dirty village, marry a woman with no education. Live on a dumpy farm. Grow rice ffs

No doubt all that will help you get on up country. The question is why the F would anyone live upcountry and doubly especially anywhere near parents in law?

So you have evidence that they are all Rif Raf some people use agents as it's more convenient, not having to drive for several hours then stuck in a long line for hours to be told to come back next week, by the way, having 800 k stuck in a single name account cause problems when the holder dies as the bank wont release it to the deceased estate a lawyer has to be brought inj who then has to take it to the courts for a judge to give written authorisation for the bank to release the funds if whoever is looking after your estate is lucky they might get the funds 6 or 9 months later with a bil in excess of 50,000 baht plus i saying this from experience as i was the executer of a friends will the 800 k cannot be held in a joint account and even if your married to a Thai it is still the same rule as the monies belong to the deceased not NOK until the court issues a release letter to the bank

I wonder if they got some tips from Trump... 😁

Yes, I stopped bunging the speeding ticket shake down cop a couple of red notes decades ago because I just didn't feel good with myself for feeding their corruption.

Now that my driving licence has expired, I just drive within the speed limits.

Corruption works here. It's a fabric of Thai society.

Sounds like a good time to me. Maybe you're jealous.

Will Non-O "zero in the bank" applicants be barred from applying again if they are busted even if the funds are there ?
