Road Rage (Foreigner Style)

I deal with situations like this almost daily here in Isaan — and often much worse. Honestly, I doubt I’d still be alive if I honked every time someone pulled out from a side road without looking. Instead, I’ve learned to be extra cautious whenever I see traffic coming from a secondary road. It’s not my job to teach people here how to drive properly, and it would be foolish to assume that role. My only concern is getting to my destination safely. If that means adapting to drivers who don’t follow the rules — so be it.

I need to be more like you.

I'm far from tolerant to these dangerous fools!

  • To be honest @lordgrinz, I agree with @mancub and think that you precipretated the situation. I'll explain... In Thailand and in fact anywhere, driving is give and take. In other words you allow

Yeah, I agree. The man is an idiot and hopefully he'll get a slap one day, but it's hardly a matter for the police. Forget it, move on. And generally don't beep at people, it can be very dangerou

That's literally the worst advice you could ever give anyone here.

Goodness @fredwiggy, what a ramble...

There are at least SEVEN people who align with my view and just you and @lordgrinz who sees it differently. Doesn't that tell you something? That people like yourself think that your perspective is the only one that counts and so subsequently you don't really get on with anyone.

Emotionally intelligent others don't need to fight on every hill and don't see it as a loss to be magnanimous.

He is ahead of @lordgrinz halfway through a turn. The safest and best way, is to simply take your time until it is safe to proceed, rather than to risk a clash and then have to stand there arguing the toss over who is right.

THIS is the thing that some foreigners don't 'get' about Thailand. In order to promote harmony, it's better to work TOGETHER. It doesn't always matter who is 'right', just avoid making it into a problem if possible. Wave him through with a smile and watch the world smile with you....or be a selfish arse who thinks they are right about everything and so instead plough on dangerously through sheer bloody-mindedness.

You should look that up. It describes the OP perfectly.

No need for another ramble. Just keep to the point.

@lordgrinz "doesn't know what I'm talking about" because he put me on 'ignore' for not agreeing with his interpretation of events. 😊

I feel more sorry for his wife and kid if that is the way he behaves.

You're the one wishing people violence, seek help.

I think you need some help.

@2long You should. It's the way to enlightenment.

In fact the consensus is that both behaved badly. It's only @fredwiggy and @lordgrinz who try to protest otherwise. But none of it would have happened if @lordgrinz was a more courteous driver.

@fredwiggy Please link to the five people that have agreed with @lordgrinz version of events. The first posters were only commenting on the other drivers subsequent behaviour. But pretty much everyone agrees that @lordgrinz precipitated the event with his aggressive driving actions.

I think that pretty much everyone agrees you're a PITA.

It might be like everything else here, where you only have to worry about punishment after you use it, then they throw the law book at you. The RTP don't actively enforce laws here, but when you screw up, they use those laws against you, there is no grey area at that point.

You should have held back, let the mazda make his turn. Would that have been so terrible? If you've been driving here awhile, you should have known better.

You're the fella that thinks visa agents are wrong. Very much a stickler for the letter of the law it seems.

Which is illegal, and dangerous with traffic coming through the intersection and already in that lane.

You were way behind him, just trying to muscle through.

@nauseus No, that's just you with a bee in your bonnet. Have I hurt you in the past? Not yet gotten over it?

@fredwiggy Who is going to kick his arse? You? @lordgrinz? @lordgrinz is the one more likely to get his arse kicked if he continues to behave in that fashion. Pushing through and hitting his horn multiple times. The other driver merely reacted to his bad attitude and indicated that @lordgrinz might be lacking something in his trousers. Totally unacceptable behaviour. But what can you expect with two monkeys?

What is this 💩 "Never underestimate an "old man" and what they can do, especially if they've been working out for 50 years and have a few women treat them wrong." Are you mentally ill?

Moving on from that weirdness...you are accusing the other driver of doing exactly what @lordgrinz did...not allowing the other driver to proceed safely. You don't seem to realise that you regularly contradict yourself.

Saying that it doesn't matter who agrees with the situation....clearly it does. It means that YOUR opinion is as useless as you regard anyone else's.

The fact is that more people think @lordgrinz is at fault. There's a reason for that...one that you are incapable of understanding.

I wasn't there, so this doesn't affect me. I said, what this man did would get him fined or his ass kicked, meaning he would get a ticket for what he did , and there are some who would go after him at the drop of a hat, and some that would get out of the car and confront him. if my daughter was threatened, he would go down, period. It doesn't matter who he is, how big he is or what he knows. Some people you just don't provoke when kids are around.

The man was wrong, no matter if he beeped his horn or not. You don't use your car as a weapon. You do that in the US  you'll be making a huge mistake in some instances.

If you've never worked out, let along for 50 years, and been treated bad by a few people, you have no idea what that person is capable of, and it has nothing to do with any mental illness. Some people just don't understand this world and what makes people do what they do. It might be weird to a businessman that has never done anything physical in their lives besides use a printer, but others understand what I'm saying.

You're still using a number to gauge who's right or wrong here, and that never works, as the majority can also be wrong. Look at how many people thought Hitler, Putin or Trump is right. Don't assume I'm incapable of not understanding anything, as you have no idea. And thinking someone is contradicting themself because you think you're right is ignorance. Look at how many disagree with you and how many are agreeing with us.

What you're missing is what the whole situation is, and are only concentrating on the OP's actions. Again, for the 3rd time, he could have let the red car go, but he didn't, and he didn't have to. What the red car's driver did was make a minor situation into one where someone could have gotten hurt, meaning him or the OP.

Yup, black and white when it comes to the law, grey areas are for those who want to create chaos making up their own rules.

@fredwiggy Can you see the STOP sign? Who has the right of way? People coming from the left.

@lordgrinz was discourteous, whether or not he had the 'right of way'. Why not send your new friend to the police station with his video, to see what happens?

His Lordship had the right of way - Mr. Earbud can't even keep his lane - stop talking cods.

Then concentrate on them and their insanity, and re-read your comment.

I was looking for something like this, for just in case scenarios, but I think it's illegal here. The other issue is, will it explode in a car sitting in the sun?

Keep it in the beer cooler......oh wait a sec.

Moving to Thailand?

Lesson No 1

Never beep your horn or gesticulate at other drivers......555

@fredwiggy You are just hopeless. Rambling on about "working out" and "Businessman and printers" What is wrong with you?

You ramble on about people assuming things when it's exactly what you do, most of the time.

The fact that you advertise these things over and over again, speaks volumes. You just have pent up anger. Madness, I call it.

I've been riding/driving on Thai roads for over 20 years, I know the habits of the Thai's and their way of thinking.

Seriously, it's some of the foreigners who are the danger, some come here without the ability, the competence to drive on Thai roads, they are a danger to us all.

@nauseus His lordship had a red stop sign and a bad attitude. Led to him getting a bit of a scare....and now he is out of it, the bravado appears. He was using his car as a weapon and in the end was afraid to leave it, using his daughter as an excuse. Another one who talks the talk...

Er, were you upset after something I said?

It's best to bow out when you aren't understanding what others write. I think you forget what you and others write before and just concentrate on things you remember, which is skimming. I'm responding to what you write individually. That you see it as rambling means you're missing the points along the way. You have been wrong all along on your assumptions of me. Maybe the statement "you need to get out more" fits you to a T. Some others assume here, not knowing a thing about the person they're talking to, and that's a trait teenagers do, because they haven't the life experience to understand you don't know but a few people well, and even them not everything.

But again, like you said, 99.9% of the accidents and deaths are, and always will be, caused by the locals. Think what they means. I lived 62 years in the US, drove twice as many miles as the average person, and saw more than my share of incidents daily. Before I came here, what I heard about local drivers was nowhere as bad as what I see here daily. Tourists aren't what I'm referring to, as tourists everywhere seem to think they are bulletproof, and disrespect because it isn't their country. I'm talking about residents of both types.

Whilst I am almost not ever inclined to agree with @SAFETY FIRST, it clearly is two foreigners involved here, who should know better.

I have little doubt that @lordgrinz has been involved in similar situations in the past. These people take their poor behaviour everywhere with them.

The kind of person who if they see someone riding a bicycle on a pavement, will deliberately try to block or bump into them.

@fredwiggy is perhaps 69 years old....but he has been driving for 62 years..... 😊

@fredwiggy What can you tell me about my life? I can tell you lots about yours. Whereas you can only assume. Get it?

Like this load of old tripe:

After a recent holiday in the UK i could see how different people drive when they had to pass an actual test

It was amazing to see car drivers keeping in lane at roundabouts rather than just cutting straight across
Hard shoulders were clear of all the dmax/Revos

Hardly surprising the amount of drivers that lose their lives daily here

My son recently broke his collarbone when a car pulled straight out into him with no chance of braking

Keep saying i will buy him a car but even that's not much safer here

Never fear, Jake. I promise to give your pedal car a wide berth next time I pass you on the ring road.
