Would you pay 500bt for Breakfast?

Featured Replies

We all know you can get food from low prices, and if staying in hotels it's often included.

But would you pay this for this kind of breakfast?

At 2780 calories that's higher than my entire days consumption.

I'd need to see some photos of what you get.  But if it's a big buffet with proper western breakfast fare, then I don't think 500 baht is a bad price at all.

  • Firstly I would not chose such an expensive hotel to eat at, I would only pay 500b if I had a gun to my head...

500B in a hotel is typical....I would have said.......we struggle to get out of bed on a morning when staying in hotels, so tend to go for breakfast about 12ish........and typically pay less than B300 for a 'good sized' full English.

If its a decent spread, absolutely.

Counting calories is so passe.  If I'm going out to eat breakfast, especially at a buffet style breakfast, I'm sure as shooting not counting calories - I'm going to indulge and enjoy the eats and flavors, especially if it's costing me 500 THB.

If I want low calorie food, I'd order a plate of Pat Pak Ruam Gai Rat Kaow and as I normally do, and only eat about 1/2 the rice.  I don't normally eat breakfast as a rule anyway, but if I do, I da*m well enjoy my breakfast.  Calories?  "Pffftttt!"

There is a few worthy hotels with breakfast buffets, but the best is Goji Bar and restaurant at Marriott  Queens Park Sukhumvit.

I was thinking the same.  If it's a buffet style where you only get one style of a dish for 500 THB out of multiple selections of foods? I'd give it a pass and I'll find a real breakfast buffet instead.  The breakfast buffet that the CM Expat club had at the Riverside pre-Covid was good. No idea where that club and breakfast has gone since everyone except a handful of us didn't roll up in a ball of terror and stopped being sociable in order to "Stop The Spread."

I spend 300-400 baht a day for breakfast and coffees alone already, this deal would be a bargain. I never do lunch though (or lunch instead of breakfast).

The best deal in Bangkok itself remains the Ibis sathorn location, it's around 220 baht for lunch buffet incl salad bars, 2 soups, sushi, ice cream, coffees and more. I can earn it back on just the coffees and ice cream alone already.

I don't do buffets, or eat breakfast before near noon, unless no option, and it comes with the room.   Even then if staying more than one night, I may not even bother, depending what is offered.

Now for my 'break fast', it depends what I'm eating, and could easily cost near 500 baht or more.  Although I usually have a hard time ordering 500 baht worth of food at a restaurant, as simply can't eat that much.   Along with I normally won't order beef or Salmon in a restaurant, as only 2 things I eat that would cost that much.

Last time, recently, that I had a meal for 500 baht was a nice Roast Beef sandwich (499, I think) and well worth it.

No......Slow Horses

Not for breakfast, no, unless staying in a nice hotel as a tourist. In Bangkok, Took Lae Dee is pretty hard to beat with its 99 baht basic 2 eggs, ham, toast, juice and fresh (not instant) coffee.

The Country Rib and Minute Steak are pretty nice for a bit more...

Same here, I don't do buffets either, but I make an exception for hotel breakfast spreads in 5 star resorts like the Shangri La in Chiang Mai. It's worth the money.

It all stands and falls with the bread, is there good baguette, is there smoked salmon or good cold cuts? A good egg station is a given. If it's a good breakfast spread, I'd give it a shot.

Sofitel @ Khon Kaen (days  past) was excellent, along with Chatrium Riverside (bkk), having roast beef, baked ham, salmon, deli meat/cheese, egg station, bread & pastries 👍👍

I love roast beef slices for breakfast, always a bonus if it's rosy red...good thing I had breakfast already. The Dutch are big on roast beef for breakfast, they do it very well.
