Installing A Bank App On My Phone.

Featured Replies

I went to my local Krungsri Bank branch last week and was informed that as I'm over 70 yo I'm to old to have their app installed on my phone. If they were to check my record they would see that  I've used this bank for the past 25 years. Does this apply to all banks as I need a Bangkok Bank app when I renew my retirement visa?

I've heard this reported 3 times, that leaves 1000s of people unaffected. Over 65 was mentioned before, so try different branch and bank.

Going out on a limb here, but from previous posts it may have to do with getting the 800,000 baht into and out of your bank account quickly and easily around extension renewal time.

Took them 2.5 hours three years ago to change it from old phone to new. This year another new phone and they gave up after 45 minutes, had to leave it with them. They did get it sorted about and after a week I was able to log in, before that it said wrong info even though it was right. Im over 70 so no can have cant be right, this was only a month ago.

I checked with a different agent today, she told me that Bangkok Bank has big problems but she didnt elaborate. She uses Krungsri Bank and if people cant get a Krungsri Bank app she can make the new visa. I must go to 2 different Krungsri Banks before she takes me to immigration. In other words it's the old procedure.

She cant make a new visa, she can arrange for an extension of stay with retirement as the reason. What do you need her for if you have the funds in the bank?

I opened my account with that bank at 2 months shy of 71 and the staff installed and set up the app for me at the same time.  My branch is at Central in Chiang Mai.

Maybe staff just wanted to get back to staring at their phone so they tried to send you away using a bogus reason.  It wouldn't be the first time it has happened.

I stay away from the bank apps I consider them to be too invasive. Why does a bank want access to your photos, emails, contacts etc?

Really? It took me 15 minutes to put the app on a new phone and I was in Australia at the time. And I am not Australian lol

The photos so it can store your receipts, the contacts so you can search your contacts to send money to them with prompt pay. Email i’m not sure.

You have more than likely accepted their requirements without reading them

I have had a Krungsri Bank account for over 20 years. I'm 79 now, and have their app on my computer and phone. They're going to remove their computer app in October, but their phone app will continue. I use it all the time to transfer money to people and to scan QR codes to pay at stores when I'm shopping.

I suggest you just install the app yourself. You can do that by going to Google Apps, or go to the link below:

Good luck!

I was able to move to their Business Internet Banking, I am pretty sure , u can too.

If you have an ATM card, you can register online, no need for a branch visit.

Make sure this online Internet Business Banking app will not be terminated in October. Their regular online Internet Banking app will be, but their phone app will continue. At least that's my understanding.

I totally agree with you. What is the reason they give for this? I cant think of any logical reason as to why this was said because I cant think of any reasonable excuse.

This is Thailand.

Rules change and are made up depending on the daily mood of the staff behind the counter.

You can go to different branches of the same bank and you will often end up with different strories and ways to get your job done.

Try another branch. Try in another town, Pay a visit to Bangkok. Another branch may agree if you move the account with money to their branch. This is how it works here unfortunately. Usually the services in Bangkok are far more open to foreigners and more polite compared to the other touristy towns all over.

Correct.  As I've posted many times previously on earlier threads.

Being over 70 yrs and unable to apply for the app, you are able to change to Krungsri Biz online as I did and will not discontinue after 01 Oct.  Certainly not for the foreseeable future.

I got a message stating that I had to visit a branch to finalise the instalation. Been using their soon to be discontinued internet banking. Easily done but I haven't yet hit 70. Who makes up these rules about being 55 for online drivers licence renewals & using bank apps?  Are they internationally utilised? Bizzzzarrrre.🙃🙃
