Today, prostitution (ST/LT) over age 18 (since the 1996 law) and over 20 in bars (since 2018) is technically illegal in Thailand. But in practice, the law is ignored when workers are over 20.

But what if Thailand becomes wealthier, more family-oriented, and more focused on protecting its global image, and finally earns U.S. Tier 1 status?

To avoid reputational damage to tourism, police could shift from treating sex work as a tolerated offense to treating it as a serious crime. Police and volunteer units then enforce a total ban on all sellers and buyers. Any sex tourist caught could face severe punishment, possibly lifelong imprisonment, or even the death penalty. Tourism would continue, but sex tourism would be forbidden entirely.

Like many Thai's I've never once went to a bar or paid for sex once in all my years in Thailand. Lots of other things to do here and still enjoy your life.

  • Sure. Most of us are here for the temples. And the cooking courses,  of course.

  • If they enforce prostitution, I will stay away. I will not be used that way, no matter how much money they would pay me.

Yeah, like what Cardinal Sin managed to do in the Philippines, when he closed down Ermita in the 80s.

Since that time, there is absolutely no prostitution in the Philippines.

I think that would put Thailand on a par with say North Korea when it came to tourism!

I never engage in sexual acts, both normal and well on the edge of being called perversions, with anyone or anything for money.

I am always generous with taxi fare

Many guys see it the same way, paying their wife or girlfriend doesn't count

Will that be illegal too?

The goes Bob's ladyboy adventures.

Self gratification does not count.

But if I pay myself to leave and go home, I am.

From the dawn of time, men have always paid for sex. The payment takes different forms - could be money, could be your sanity, could be your life.

If you partake, you are paying. It isn't a bug - it's a feature of the system. :coffee1:

Your headline makes it sound like the profession is going to be mandatory for all girls.

Thai men are about 75% of the clientele for prostitutes. The government would not be able to build prisons fast enough.

Here for the music, nothing as boring as sex. Paying for it is insanity.

Seems to be bs written by ai and not worth the time of day reading.

Like Norway you mean?

How will the young abandoned mothers feed their children?

They will die.

Thailand does not support their needy or garnish the wages from the fathers who have taken off.

Thai women would much prefer to receive social security payments or welfare cheques from the government than work in the sex industry

Shame on Thailand for not supporting these young mothers. 😡

The zoning option should check most boxes. Out of sight, thus out of mind?

Take Cuidad Juárez for example. If you are of a mind to visit the 'zona rosa', knock yourself out. Keep in mind you don't HAVE to go to the donkey shows.

Could have a positive effect on tourist number, but only if applied equally to tourists and locals. Unlike certain traffic laws.

I don't think INCELs are such a large group.
