Another fine mess Trump’s gotten us into, Ollie.

September 9, 2025Sep 9 Author I think for a lot of Trump supporters it's not the policies that they have an issue with, even some of us moderates are in agreement with some of his policies, it's the extremely clumsy, gruff, nasty, heartless, makeshift manner in which the policies are being implemented that seems to be turning a lot of people off. Including many of his supporters, some of whom likely had no idea the man was such a nasty piece of work.

Once the job losses start mounting, once the businesses start closing, and once the inflation really kicks in, people will start believing the reality of this insane and misguided trade war. Trump is imposing massive taxes on the American consumer.

Reading comprehension goes a long to understanding what people post. Might want to reply to my post, which was accurate, instead of what ever your trying to do, imply or state. Is there any president that hasn't dropped in the polls after elected ? He's not imposing any new taxes on the American consumer that 'buys USA', that I've read about. If anything, he's cut taxes, or so I read, about people complaining about the largest tax cut in some time. Along with cutting taxes on folks, myself included, that receive Social Security. Not that I care about taxes on American consumers, since I'm not one. Have a pleasant day

September 9, 2025Sep 9 Well with 10/10 of the last threads in this section being deranged anti Trump rants and tantrums, can we can conclude the forum wokies were correct, and that Trump is finally irellevant?🤣😂😅

I don't believe any tax on Social Security has been cut since it was taken out of the big beautiful bill. There was a New deduction: Effective for 2025 through 2028 for individuals who are age 65 and older can claim an additional deduction of $6,000. I also believe the deduction of $6,000 is after your AGI. Since the AGI is what is used to see how much of your Social Security is taxable I don't think it will have any impact on the amount of Social Security that is taxed. Sorry I know this has nothing to do with the subject of this thread but I read the lower taxes for people on Social Security and just wanted to know for myself if this is true. You can just ignore this post since I typed it more to understand this myself. I am sure the over 65 $6,000 deduction will reduce your tax overall so you are correct. Also people getting tips and people working overtime will get a tax break. I don't think people under 65 and on Social Security will see any change as well as anyone that does not turn 65 until after 2028.

You can dress a person in royal garments, that doesn't mean he's not a circus clown, just like you can dress a policy with fancy words, but that doesn't mean it's not a dumb policy and a tax on Americans.
September 9, 2025Sep 9 Author This is another example of a very wrong headed, and downright stupid way that Trump is cracking down on foreign workers. U.S. immigration authorities said Friday they detained 475 people, most of them South Korean nationals, when hundreds of federal agents raided Hyundai’s sprawling manufacturing site in Georgia where the Korean automaker makes electric vehicles. Agents focused on a plant that is still under construction at which Hyundai has partnered with LG Energy Solution to produce batteries that power EVs. The operation was the latest in a long line of workplace raids conducted as part of the Trump administration’s mass deportation agenda. But the one Thursday is especially distinct because of its large size and because the targeted site has been touted as Georgia’s largest economic development project. Video released by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Saturday showed a caravan of vehicles driving up to the site and then federal agents directing workers to line up outside. Some detainees were ordered to put their hands up against a bus as they were frisked and then shackled around their hands, ankles and waist. https://apnews.com/article/us-south-korea-ice-raid-georgia-hyundai-ee8781d965c74a5ee18525ce87959ba4
September 9, 2025Sep 9 Author You have to attribute some of the dollars weakness on the whipsaw tariff policies and the lack of confidence in the dollar. It has after all dropped nearly 10% since Trump took office, and it continues to drop against many currencies. Sure there are other factors at work with the Thai baht, but the weakness of the dollar and Trump's hubris and ignorance certainly do not help.

Married, and we're borderline already, so an additional 'deduction / tax cut' is welcome. As any COLA the next couple years, would have probably put us in the 'taxable' side of income. Over 65-66-67 pretty much includes most of SS recipients.

There was no change that impacts the amount where social security is taxable. The new deduction is only after the taxable SS income has been included. Just because someone has taxable SS does mean that they will owe taxes it depends on other type of income and deductions.

If like me, and surely millions others, if you have more income than just SS, and few to no deductions (I have none), then the extra 6k will come in handy. I'm a single earner household, and I'm almost at taxable limit. Probably tens of millions more, married, have 2 income from SS and possibly additional company pensions, like myself, having a pension. So that's a nice additional 'deduction / tax break' to have. There's ~74M people collecting SS, and surely they're all not like me, just under the limit to be taxed.

Yes the Dow is up 7.4% and the S&P is up 10.2% since the beginning of the year, but the dollar has fallen 10% at the same time. So in dollar value the Dow has lost 3% and the S&P has only gained .2%. I haven't even included the depression in buying power.

Not everyone pays taxes on SS and from the numbers you talk about you may be someone that 0% of your SS is taxable. The new temporary deduction does not change the math to figure out how much of SS income is taxable. If box 6a (SS payments) and (6b Taxable SS) are the same number on your 1040 you are doing your taxes incorrectly. Worse case 6b should be 85% of 6a. If someone only has SS income their SS should not be taxable. Maybe this boring video with do a better job of how much of a persons SS is taxable than I can do. I get the feeling you think I am against the 6K deduction this is not the case. The problem I have with this deduction is that it is temporary being only good for 4 years. I don't understand why not make it permanent. If someone is currently 60 they will never get this deduction unless another bill is passed because this deduction will expire before they turn 65. This deduction is good for rich and poor alike and when it disappears I think people will be upset. You said in your first post that this 6K impacts Social Security and all of my replies are just to say no it does not. It only depends on age and if you get Social Security or not is irrelevant and it does not change the math on how much of SS payment is taxable.
