All the people in the city can suck on their 20 baht fee to go a walk and the rich get richer. Yay!

You've found today's point battle.

What will tomorrow's pointless battle be waged against? 🙂

  • Why compare everything to how it is back home and demand it be the same here? The Thai police aren't running around killing black people for no reason either but I'm not complaining.

Oh dear this is so missing the point. They can't even keep their grubby mitts off a trail in the mountains without wanting their cut. The point is we treat Thai tourists with a greater respect and it

  • The problem is, as always, there are people stupid enough to pay.

We are but humble guest in a welcoming country.  Those not happy in TH, SUV has flights leaving TH every few minutes and booking a seat is easy enough   :coffee1:

When we were getting 34 THB/USD that 20 THB entrance fee was only 59 cents.

At current exchange rates, that 20 THB entrance fee is now 63 cents.

That's an outrageous increase of 6.7%.

Even if I had bothered to completely read through the thread (I didn't) and even if I knew where this park was located (I don't) and even if I thought walking in parks was an effective use of my time (I don't), I'm not paying 63 freakin' cents for the privilege of being bitten by a rattlesnake while contracting poison ivy all over the undoubtedly sunburned skin of the ankle I would have sprained.

Awesome job, OP.  Stick it to the MAN!

so does that mean you can't just stop at huay kaew waterfall to enjoy the pergola / city view? will they charge for this?

I'm from Colorado USA and any Thai person can hike for dozens of hours for free in the mountains yet they want 100 baht for these locations.

And how much does it cost a Thai to get a visa to get to there in the first place?

I believe you get a 60day free on arrival?
They don’t.

So stop ya bitching.

Also, American people and many other nationalities can enter Thailand free of charge and practically stay here forever while Thai people going to the US must pay for a visa and jump through many hoops to get it..

California also typically charges non-residents more than residents, just like here in Thailand.

Thailand does not have "resident" and "non-resident" prices, it has "Thai" and "Foreign" prices, which in practice means "Asian face" and "non-Asian face" prices. As pointed out earlier, any Thai person living in California will get the price for residents there.

It's not comparable. US has a huge problem with people overstaying visas and working illegally. If they actually enforced labor laws and this wasn't possible they should also drop the tourist visa requirements down to something easy like Thailand. America wants tourists as much as anyone but there's a big risk factor there.

I don't understand your comment. Where are police running around killing black people? There was one incident in London where a copper shot and killed a black guy, but that was because he was a violent criminal trying to use his car as a weapon. Plenty of instances of young blacks killing other young blacks in London. There are also instances in Africa with black civilians killing groups of other black civilians of a different religion. Try as I might, I just can't find any reports of police running around killing black people for no reason. Unless of course you're referring to the fentanyl smuggling mafia.

No, because I show the pink ID.

I used to show my work permit, but I'm retired now.

Unfortunately, the official policy says that the lower pricing is applicable only to Thai Nationals. The Work Permit used to work for me in some parks many years ago but it has not worked for me in many years already, as lately they always insist that the lower pricing is only for Thais.

I don't live around these areas anymore so it won't affect me but this is so petty and greedy. I'm from Colorado USA and any Thai person can hike for dozens of hours for free in the mountains yet they want 100 baht for these locations. I used to go to Huay Kaew waterfall often when I lived in that part of the city and the idea of paying for 100 baht to go sit on a rock for 30 minutes is ridiculous in my opinion.

I haven't been there in over 10 years but I suspect it's so overrun with tourists now the authorities saw a new revenue stream they're jumping on.

The collection points for the national park entry fee (effective October 1, 2025) will include:

  1. Doi Pui Camping Ground Visitor Center – Doi Hua Moo Viewpoint

  2. Suan Son Resort Visitor Area

  3. Huay Kaew Waterfall

  4. Wat Pha Lat Nature Trail

They've started charging to STOP the place being so overrun by knob heads.
