Currently sporting a 13 Pro Max which is thought of as one of the better models in the iPhone family so not desperate to upgrade.

But, there are 3 others ( wife and 2 lead weights  ) interested in my browsing choices during this “ new iPhone release “ time as their phone leapfrogging is overdue, well they think so anyway !!

Most of the key features of the new iPhones were released in advance and while I am not too enamoured with the new “ camera plateau “ it is all down to price imho.

I would be interested to see the models in the flesh, although would go primarily for Pro Max with Pro in 2nd place, apparently the new design brings lighter phones which will be welcome.

The lack of my usual Black colour doesn’t phase me, always use a case anyway.

The 17 Air is a non starter for me, one speaker and a limited camera design would make it a step backwards, looking for a phone that suits me and not one to impress the neighbours !!

In short, will take a look at the 17’s with an eye on the Pro Max in particular ( like the larger screen ). But, will also weigh up the difference in price for 15,16 and 17 Pro Max.

15/16 Pro Max has minimal differences so a 15 PM could probably be most cost effective.

As a disclaimer I have bought iPhones since the launch of iPhone 4, am aware that there exists cheaper and better options out there but the iPhone suits me, plus am too old for change !!

And that's what it's all about, SPORTING a phone. Better to say USING whatever phone you are using. How many people do you show it to?

My Poco X6 5G @ Bht 8000 does everything I need.

Thought you were a Brit and therefore would have recognised the vernacular.

Either way, to me, it is not about how much a phone costs or what you can do with it, imho it is about “ using “ a phone which fulfills your needs and you are happy/satisfied to use it.

Yes I agree.

I don't think they allow that indefinately. They start refusing software updates to older phones don't they?

As does my almost 5 yr old POCO X3 NFC, along with features I'll never use.  Give me a good Sony camera sensor & GPS, and I'm happy :coffee1:

Many of the snaps, and especially vids, get posted on AN.  EIS is pretty impressive, and vids are better than my Sony cameras put out, though zooming isn't as smooth, or shall I say, my use of.

Wife just got a new, very nice X7 ...

To keep using old phones and not buying new models.

IMO iPhones being sold in large numbers are coming to their end - slowly - but it is coming. Their price points are far too high in this day and age where a brand new decent Android phone can be had for under 5000 Baht (about 2K if you only want the basic functions). Yes the iPhones are extremely well designed and manufactured, but the days of (analogy) Mercedes/BMW outselling Honda/Toyota are coming to an end. There are Chinese and Korean brand smartphones that while not as good as iPhones, offer far better value and these days they are very good.  There was a time a few decades ago when Honda/Toyota was seen as not quality - the same thing is happening with smart phones.  We have 2 iPhones (SE2 and 12) and 2 iPads - they will not be getting replaced with Apple devices. IMO right now Samsung and Xaomi devices offer great value for their price.

BUT as I have said many times here and elsewhere, IMO dont link your bank accounts with a phone/tablet due to the security and scammer and trojan risks. If you do, then get a separate bank account with only a few thousand baht in it and use that if you must.

Only buy pricey things 🙄 from the manufacturer, Xiaomi flagship store @ LAZ.

I still hang on to my Iphone 12 mini.

Size is good and suits me.

Every time Apple introduce a new Iphone , it is like they are building a better camera that you can use as a telephone.

Just set my old Huawei up as a dashcam using Droid Dashcam app. Marvellous.

Also Droidcam app allows it to be used as a webcam/mic on your PC.

The general consensus this year , among those interested in buying an iPhone, is :

The base model iPhone 17 is the most cost effective, has narrowed the gap significantly between itself and the Pro models. The lack of a telephoto lens being its major defect. Is thought to be the best seller this year.

The Pro models are let down by the shape and a lack of colour black, there will be a lot of the “ plateau “ still on view and not covered by the standard cases. There are a few advantages over the base models only used by YouTubers and people making videos for a living.

The iPhone Air, while impressive in its form is let down by its function and expensive compared to the base model. Will still sell well by the “ look at me “ crowd but only one speaker and lesser battery capacity will hold it back.

Unless i can snap up a 15 or 16 Pro Max for a hefty discount it will be an iPhone 17 for me, saving around 14k over the chunky clunky Pro models.

Not upgrading until Apple comes out with a FLIP phone.

I have pre-ordered mine (Pro), should get it end of this month. Main motivation is the camera.

Still no AI capabilities , ok Tim Cook 🤡

There is plenty of AI in the camera. Maybe you wanted some kind of ChatGPT that can spell dumb posts on various social media?

ok you overpaid for a substandard phone , deal with it ...

enjoy running  google maps and google translate on that pieces of shight

Presently using iPhone 8 Plus. Purchased 3 years ago when it was then 5 years old. Does everything I need. 5th Generation mobile data and eSIM are the only updates I would use. A few apps no longer update although nothing crucial as yet. The other day the 'home' button stopped working although the fingerprint feature remains operational. I read that it's often software or firmware related so did a factory reset. Unfortunately, the issue persists. Simple workaround is to use assistive touch. Was thinking of updating to iPhone 11 or 12. However, iPhone 17 might be a better and longer term solution.

I'll by the wife a 17 pro max for Christmas/New Year, my boy will get her 16 pro max, and my boy's 15 pro max. My current 13 will become my US phone

Been using Google maps for years, interfaces nicely with my CRV's media system. The result is much better than the Navsat of my previous CRV.

Just telling..

Is there an issue with using these apps on an iPhone?

Yes, but you don't have an '80 Yugo with a $30 SG multimedia system
