Thaksin Shinawatra's prison sentence is raising eyebrows and discussions across the nation. As the Supreme Court recently handed him a one-year (12-month) sentence, speculation swirls around what this actually means in terms of time served. Akarakit Worarojcharoendet, known to the public as "Benz Racing," took to social media on 10th September to break down the Department of Corrections' guidelines, revealing that Thaksin might serve around nine months behind bars.

Thaksin entered the correctional system on 9th September, beginning his sentence at a medium classification, one of six levels within the prison system. The guidelines for prisoners, explained by Benz Racing, outline a progression system where good behaviour and participation in activities can lead to advancement through the ranks. After three months, inmates may progress from medium to "good," with additional promotions possible every four months—April, August, and December.

For sentences not exceeding three years, there are specified times for class promotion reviews. If the requirements are satisfied, Thaksin might ask for a move from "good" to "very good" by April 2026. However, a few potential scenarios might affect Thaksin's time in custody. Firstly, he might spend up to 8–9 months in jail, aligning with guidelines for inmates who serve two-thirds of their sentences before they can apply for parole.

In addition, the Department of Corrections outlines criteria for early release or home detention through Electronic Monitoring (EM), especially for older prisoners aged 70 and above or those with serious health conditions. Thaksin, aged 76, falls into this category and may apply for such privileges after serving six months, potentially leading to an early release by March 2026.

Other factors that might accelerate Thaksin's release include exemplary conduct, active participation in educational or vocational training, or earning commendations for exceptional service during his time in prison. If these conditions are satisfied, Thaksin might even qualify for electronic house arrest earlier than anticipated.

Key Takeaways

  • Thaksin Shinawatra could potentially serve only 8–9 months of his 12-month sentence.
  • Due to his age, he might qualify for early or special release after six months.
  • Behaviour and participation in prison activities could further reduce the time served.

 another news

After the 2006 coup, the military junta ordered another investigation into the anti-drug campaign. Former Attorney General Kanit Na Nakhon chaired the special investigative committee. "The special committee will be tasked with an investigation to find out the truth about the deaths as well as to identify remedial measures for their relatives", said Justice Minister Charnchai Likhitjittha.[41] The committee found that as many as 1400 of the 2500 killed had no link to drugs. However, while giving the opinion that orders to kill came from the top,

"Internet idiots" isn't a formal term for a specific online community, but it refers to users in any online forum who behave in a way that is considered foolish, ignorant, or disruptive.

think you fit the bill now go away and let the adults have a sensible discussion

You have to be quite retarded and ignorant if you do not understand that Thaksin ordered all this as well started it at the time. Anyone knows this, just some think it was fine as it's just 'druggies' who mostly died, which later turned out to only be 50% of them. Here is a summary for you below:

Quote

Thaksin Shinawatra, former Prime Minister of Thailand, initiated a "War on Drugs" in February 2003, which led to significant loss of life. The campaign, launched under Prime Minister’s Order 29/2546, aimed to suppress drug trafficking and use, particularly targeting methamphetamine use.

It resulted in over 2,800 deaths within three months, with estimates ranging from 2,500 to 2,800 extrajudicial killings, many of which were later found to involve individuals with no connection to drugs.

A 2007 government investigation revealed that more than half of those killed had no links to drug offenses, raising serious concerns about arbitrary executions and human rights violations. The policy incentivized police to eliminate suspected drug dealers, often bypassing judicial processes, and was criticized by human rights groups and the UN for its brutality and lack of accountability.

Luckily we live in 2025 and your false attempt to make it look different won't get a single chance anymore.

I just provided you with the minister order and the number, you can't even read clearly else you would have understood already. It was his specific order that both started this but also permitted police with power and actions that normally would been illegal.
