Thailand has voted in favor of a United Nations General Assembly resolution supporting a two-state solution for Palestine. This decision aligns Thailand with 142 other UN members advocating for Palestinian statehood and a peaceful resolution. The vote emphasizes Thailand's firm stance, reflecting a long-standing diplomatic position.

In December 2024, Thailand joined 157 countries supporting the resolution on the "Peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine," which urged Israel to cease settlement activities. Along with urging a two-state framework, this agenda received opposition from eight countries, including the United States and Israel. Thailand's enduring dedication to a negotiated peace was reaffirmed on September 12 with its vote for a declaration calling for "tangible, time-bound" steps toward establishing a Hamas-free Palestinian government.

This resolution was adopted with 142 votes in favor, 10 against, and 12 abstentions, demonstrating significant international backing. Thailand has consistently voted in support of the two-state solution, in line with ASEAN and Global South perspectives, though it hasn't taken a leading role in Middle Eastern diplomacy. This positioning reflects Bangkok's commitment to peaceful negotiations and Palestinian statehood despite focusing on regional diplomacy in Asia.

Expert opinions indicate that Thailand's consistent voting pattern underscores its diplomatic relationship with ASEAN nations and the broader international community supporting Palestinian rights. This action fits into a broader global push for resuming peace talks and emphasizes Thailand’s adherence to international consensus, reinforcing its stance on global issues.

Looking forward, Thailand is expected to maintain its consistent support for resolutions promoting peace and stability in the Middle East. The international community continues to call for actionable measures, signaling potential diplomatic initiatives focusing on sustainable solutions for Israeli-Palestinian relations.

Key Takeaways

  • Thailand supports UN resolution advocating the two-state solution.
  • Reflects decades-long commitment despite not playing a lead diplomatic role.
  • Aligns with ASEAN and global consensus for negotiated peace.

the Palestinians have repeatedly rejected a two state soloution they want one state, "from the river to the sea". There is no body that will govern a Palestinian state that is not opposed to the state of Israel. The Israelis know this and now they also oppose a two state soloution. The UN cannot control a Palestinian state just like they cannot control other terrorist groups that they are sent to police.

Good onya, Thailand. For what it's worth, you have my full support. Israel has shown no appetite for a solution and is hell-bent on eradicating Palestine from the landscape. This has been their aim since 1948, and their current actions are merely an extension of this policy. They have no desire for peace because it doesn't sit with their endgame.

The more pressure that can be placed upon them, the better. Israel has played the victim card for too long, and in truth, they are victims of their own doctrine.

A two state solution will guarantee ongoing issues for evermore.

There is one thing that can be added to the solution that we had before but sadly it seems needs to be returned to.

In the 50-70 we had UNIFIL UNDOF AND UNTSO. These were UN forces tht were deployed with the Blue helmets as referees and peacekeepers.

The solution that works with them is that neutral countries (the UN, US, and Iran) support troops stationed along the border.  There is a 1-2 mile strip of land tht they monitor as well as the border crossings.

Canada used to be a big supplier and got its reputation for peacekeeping

It works and would resolve all issues countries that could be used could include Thailand.

Can hardly call Iran neutral anymore, not since the religious nutters run the show. They appear to be the root cause of the problem right now.

oops I messed up meant to say NOT the US or Iran or even any muslim country.

Canada even went as far as barring anyone Jewish from going just to be safe.

The only question is what military force is going to be needed on the Ukraine-Russia border.  Canada may be one of the best choices there also.  No oneis going to trust Euro nato countries

Your opinion doesn’t match facts. Btw the river to the sea was coined by Zionism ideology. They’re working hard at it by continuing stealing land from neighbors.

That's cute.  But sadly, in the real world that's an either/or choice.  You can't have both.

There will never be peace with Palestine and Israel until Hamas are totally removed from the picture.

Well yes, that was 100 years ago that Zionists wanted an Israel from the River to the sea .

Since then Zionists accepted   a smaller Israeli state .

its now the Palestinians that want a Palestine state from river to the sea

True it started 100 years ago. And true they accepted a smaller piece. But and it’s a big one. The plan was always there. You want proof? Well it’s all there in b&w or should I spell them out. It’s a long list 😂😂😂

That wouldn't stop Hamas firing rickets into Israel , so it would be pointless them being there

You consider that Iran is neutral?????
You do know that Iran has been supplying Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis?

I was unable to "LIKE" the post above that is the subject of this forum. I don't know why. I have been an advocate of a Two-State Solution after I read all about the situation, and about a month or so after the Oct 7, 2023 attack.

In December 2024 the Thai government supported a 2 state solution, but Thailand has a new government now.
Why write an article talking about something a different government supported 9+ months ago?

How did the Israel-Gaza two state solution work out over the last 20 years? 🤔

I don’t think they ever did accept a two state solution. They even murdered their PM who was getting close to one.

I take it you are not old enough to remember but this does work if both sides want peace or need a  referee.  The value is that you have someone  on the ground that says no to both sides.

It worked in egypt and Lebanon.

Israel is a terrorist state by itself

It's a war crime to change borders through conflict.  That's the law.
