Statement: Following Trump’s politicization of CDC, West Coast states issue unified vaccine recommendations — California breaks from future federal guidance with new law

Sep 17, 2025

What you need to know: In the vacuum left by the Trump Administration’s chaos and politicization of science, the West Coast Health Alliance today issued unified, science-based vaccine recommendations ahead of the winter virus season. Governor Gavin Newsom also signed AB 144, empowering California to chart its own path and reject corrupted federal guidelines.

"SACRAMENTO – Today, Governor Gavin Newsom of California, Governor Tina Kotek of Oregon, Governor Bob Ferguson of Washington, and Governor Josh Green of Hawaii announced coordinated winter virus vaccination recommendations through the West Coast Health Alliance (WCHA). These recommendations include the 2025–26 COVID-19, influenza, and RSV vaccines.

In addition, Governor Newsom signed AB 144, authorizing California to base future immunization guidance on credible, independent medical organizations rather than the CDC’s increasingly politicized Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.

...

States stepping in

Alliance states are fighting back against the Trump administration’s assault on science — sharing a commitment to ensuring that health recommendations are guided by safety, efficacy, transparency, access, and trust. To develop these recommendations, Health Officers, who are all medical doctors, and subject matter experts from each of the WCHA states reviewed guidelines from credible national medical organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). Our alliance believes that all clinically recommended vaccinations should be accessible to the people of our states."

The announced West Coast states vaccine policies below counter recent moves by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., via the Food and Drug Administration under his control, to restrict and narrow the availability of COVID vaccines for children and pregnant women. A Kennedy-appointed advisory panel at the Centers for Disease Control this week also is expected to consider new guidance for COVID vaccines. The policy announced here means these four states would disregard any potential changes made at the federal level involving the COVID vaccine and the other specified vaccines, and instead will follow the vaccine policies below:

Gov. Newsom's signing of state legislation AB 144 takes California even a step further, basically replacing in various state laws former provisions that keyed the state's vaccine guidance to federal ACIP recommendations, and replacing those with California's own vaccine policies, which will be made and updated in consultation with the major professional medical associations such as American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP):

West Coast Health Alliance Sets Clinical Priorities Amid Vaccine Guidance Shifts

  • California's AB 144 enables state adoption of independent medical recommendations, ensuring broader vaccine coverage and addressing federal guidance gaps.

"California Governor Gavin Newsom also gave his approval to AB 144, which enables the state to accept vaccination recommendations from independent medical organizations, such as the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, instead of depending only on the federal Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).

...

A major clinical benefit of AB 144 is that it directs insurers to follow state immunization schedules rather than limited federal ones. This guarantees patients will not face gaps in coverage when seeking vaccines recommended by medical societies but excluded from federal guidance. “We want the people who live and work in our states to know that there is a strong public health, healthcare, and scientific community that will continue to stand together to provide and use the data and evidence needed for you to make healthy choices,” said Erica Pan, MD, director of the California Department of Public Health.

...

For pharmacists, the changes will mean clearer state-level directives, opportunities to close immunization gaps, and a greater role in helping patients navigate evolving recommendations. As the 2025-26 season approaches, the Alliance’s unified approach may serve as a model for preserving public trust and safeguarding high-risk populations."

Absolutely nuts.

A careful read at the above will reveal the lunacy of the programme.

In not one; covid-19, influenza, RSV, has a virus been shown to exist. The vaxxes are based on anti-science.

Didn't read the rest of the post as I never do with your prolific copying and pasting in lieu of posting links.  I assume the rest of this threads real-estate will be 95% consumed by you and your pasting of articles but it is what you seems to excite you for some reason and the admins won't stop it so....

As for the above :), The west coast states are most likely within their rights to do so and most don't have issues with "recommendations".  Trump's heavy handed approach surely is not appreciated in states like California just as many during the pandemic disliked  Biden's heavy handed policies and ignored them.  IMO, just try to accept different groups of people have different opinions and do what you think is best.

I would love to be proven wrong, but considering the underwhelming outcome after the 1st day of the ACIP meeting, I currently don't have much confidence that anything but 'cosmetic' changes will be recommended on the vax-issue.

And therefore it looks like the individual states of the US will have to drive change by implementing their own state vax-regulations.

Such change will further polarize the issue as

- some states (like California) will not only preserve the current Federal regulations, but even add to them, remove exemptions and  mandate some of the shots;

- other states (like Florida) are going the exact other route, with the goal of making all vax-shots voluntary.

> Ultimately this will result in an exodus by those that 'had enough' to the 'Freedom' states (a process that already started during the Covid-period with people and companies fleeing their dictatorial woke nanny states).

The adults recommendation seems plausible but do children really need all these shots?  I guess it is an odds game and I would hope they determined that is was better statistically for  infants to get all these shots and didn't let their biases seep into the recommendation.

I doubt I'll be getting any of these vaccines when I reach 70+ but looking at MOST the older expats here, it might be worth a consideration 🙂

I'd laugh, if it wasn't a true reflection of what the USA are now.

.... and even a high school education will ensure that the readers of your AN posts correctly identify them as a simpleton's nonsense disproven repeatedly by scientists around the world.
