Fair Party leader Kannavee Suebsueng has urged Thailand's new Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, to tackle a "bribes-for-citizenship" scheme in which stateless individuals pay brokers for legal status. This call to action follows Kannavee's visit to Fang district, Chiang Mai, where he was informed of the issue by locals. Bribes reportedly range from 3,000 to 40,000 baht per individual, potentially amassing 2.5 billion baht through illegal channels affecting Thailand’s 483,626 stateless residents.

Kannavee highlighted that these payments are linked to a Cabinet resolution from October 29, 2024, which aimed to regularize the status of stateless people. The situation has sparked significant concern over corruption and misuse of the resolution, which was intended to help individuals gain legal residency. Kannavee has already raised this matter with the Prime Minister, who is also set to take on the role of interior minister, emphasizing the need for decisive government intervention.

The Fair Party leader stressed the urgency of resolving this issue, suggesting that bureaucracy alone cannot solve it; strong political action is necessary. He highlighted the importance of Anutin’s leadership in addressing the problem, pointing out the challenge in tracking the money trail linked to the bribes. Kannavee expressed confidence that with Anutin's intervention, a solution is achievable, noting that effective measures could put an end to the illegal practice.

Moving forward, Kannavee expects the government to investigate and dismantle the network facilitating these bribes. This step is crucial to ensuring that the resolution benefits stateless individuals without them being subject to corruption. The outcome will hinge on the government's response and commitment to transparency, reinforcing citizens' trust in governmental processes.

Key Takeaways

  • Kannavee calls on PM Anutin to address illegal citizenship bribes.
  • Bribes range between 3,000 to 40,000 baht, potentially totaling 2.5 billion baht.
  • Quick and decisive political action is needed to resolve the issue.

They should also investigate all the dodgy agents paying bribes to officials for visa and visa extensions for farangs circumventing the system.

Where can I sign up? Tired of 90-day reports!

If you have several successive work permits you probably have the main criteria to apply for Permanent Residence.

After PR is all approved no more 90 day reports, not ever.
