Russia is now sending armed planes into NATO airspace with basically no NATO response showing NATO is a paper tiger.

So -- should NATO nations thus invaded warn and then shoot down such war planes?

Some say that would serve to hasten WW3.

Others say NOT responding with teeth actually serves to show Russia can get away with anything, in effect, hastening WW3 even more so.

Well, has anyone provoked and tested Russia yet? This game I have grown up with since former Soviet Union Airplanes and subs coming in to our security zone and playing with us, and Russia continues  to do the same now and then. Should we continue to let them do it ?

I just see it as a game, to show their presence, and as long nothing else happens, good.

How do you effectively deal with a bully?

Certainly not strongly worded letters and statements of concern.

During normal times I would agree with you……but with Putin’s aggression and full scale invasion of Ukraine it’s a different game I’d say shoot to kill warning optional.

I have an idea. Why not fly armed planes into Russia too or drones? I'm sure we already do.

The media want you to believe Russian is some massive bungeoning unstobble army. They're not. They did little in Syria, got their arses kicked in Afghanistan (when they were a might), and have struggled to take over weak Ukraine. Even had to rope in troops from the mighty North Korea.

There economy is no bigger than Spains. Outside central Moscow and central St Petersberg it's a dump.

Yes they have nuclear weapons, but so do many countries - and the use of them would mean mutual obliteration of Russia which seems quite pointless if you intention is to make Russia mighty.

The despot is tolerated by America and the rest because he isn't a mad man, and that's the last thing you want with so much nuclear weaponary. He is just a tad nuts about bringing back the USSR for some reason.

With the nord stream gas line, etc he could have been improving the lives of every day Russians, instead of this wasteful, harmful policy of land takeover. Now it's a case of trying to save face by not backing down. He didn't expect the kind of resolve Ukraine and the west put up (even damaging their own economies).

Russia controls the media, and that’s what matters to Putin for now. He cant give up before he got something he can announce to his followers.

We wouldn’t gain anything from the Russians if we shot down a plane, while Putin would gain another propaganda card.

Laptop. 24/7 breathless coverage, worlds ending stuff. For years and years. All total fantasy. Yet nothing learned, they still lap up propaganda, quite incredible but there it is.

you watch - and believe - too much tv. "understanding" is way too strong a word to describe your mere obedience to propaganda. In reality you should be ashamed of yourself but in our upside-down world you can feel good about your virtue signaling and self-rightousness.

The children are making stuff up to get Daddy involved.

If you're planning to shoot them down why would you warn them?  Have you been partaking in the wacky tobacky this evening?

That's standard  protocol when you're not in active hot war.

Instead of cheap ad hominem insults why not explain what was wrong with what I posted?

He would stop the incursions.

He would learn NATO is not a paper tiger.

Russia is way too weak at this point to be at war with NATO.

But they are strong enough to attack Estonia etc. if NATO continues to lack resolve and unity.

There is always more that goes on behind the spotlights, so I wouldn't predict the future when it comes to war. It is not only Russia, they do have support and China also waiting for the right moment to move and extend their lines in South China sea. One move on the war chess board might start another war or two

That's another reason to shoot them down. A message to China.

If I remember correctly during the felons first term I think he used Estonia as an example of not honoring an article 5 by nato saying the country wasn’t worth it…..obviously missing the whole premise of NATO…..not surprising trump being trump.yea that was early in the first trump debacle….I remember how we were all so shocked about him knifing nato in the guts…..it was before the betrayal in helinsky.sad

There is another massive China connection in the area.

When Poland closes the border with may as well be Russia Belarus, Chinese rail trade to Europe is blocked. A big flippin" deal.

Putin wants NATO to shoot down a Russian plane for propaganda purposes in the homeland.   The solution is for Europe to destroy the Russian economy by blocking energy sales.  Ukraine has started this process. Europe needs to kick the door in.

I think it was just a test of NATO's detection system and how long it took to intercept. The planes didn't fly over land; only over water.

Vlad Vexler who I deeply respect has an alternative perhaos even more troubling interpretation.

China doesn't mind the war.

It's weakened Russia. It brings into the Chinese sphere, another proxy under their control.

China minds their goods headed to Europe being blocked at the Polish border A LOT.

Active WW3 or not, all that is happening in the world now, all over the world, is interrelated.

Some of you trumpist have an unhealthy obsession with homosexuals just weird and nothing to do with the thread

Wait what. You're the only one talking about homosexuals in the thread. To me that looks like a pic of someone injured in the war.

You have made many homophobic comments on AN before.
