Opening a K bank account impossible?

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

We decided to open a joint account, went in last week and was told needed to provide TM30, went back yesterday with everything photocopied and signed and was asked for a work permit, on a retirement extension for 19 years and 74! The the 'customer service' guy is on the phone for ever with head office looking at the documents, what they came up with for a reason not to process the application was amazing.

We were told the name in my passport and immigration documents were the wrong way round as they had the last name first. I was advised to get a new passport (it is) with my name the other way round with the surname second then immigration could do the same. Well thats just not possible and when I pointed out all passports are like this INCLUDING Thai passports they said well Chinese ones are not. Wife asked to talk to the person he was on the phone with coming up with this nonsense but was refused.

After an hour and 20 minutes putting up with this 'customer service' we left and they kept the photo copies to look into it again. I was all for trying another branch but the mrs wanted to get them to admit they were wrong. If we needed passports with the name reversed how did thousands of foreigner's get to open an account, another question that fell on deaf ears. They are meant to phone us up but I don't hold out much hope of that. Is there an effective place to complain to at Kasikorn?

Unlucky.

Complete idiots that you were dealing with.

Indeed some Thais have problems to read a passport!

Had a similar experience at Krungsri.

On first attempt they printed a book without my last name 🫣

The incompetence / unworldliness of some desk staff is unbelievable.

Could tell a long story since this September  spending hours at Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn at our district town.

Of course no WP but Non O extension sufficient.

I am afraid you need to go for another branch. Where are you?

As above try another Branch.......

hey said well Chinese ones are not.

More idiocy!

Couldn't resist to check.

The sample passport is:

ZHENGJIAN, YANGBEN

The "," might cause some uncertainty.

But the machine readable zone makes it clear.

POCHNZHENGJIAN<<YANGBEN

But really, save your nerves.

You obviously have met one of the most incompetent idiots at a Kasikorn desk.

Try to find another branch. In Pattaya it would be a 5 min Baht bus ride...

They all have degrees I think but can never decide anything, it's aways on the phone to HQ and several staff looking at the same documents over and over thinking they might understand if they keep looking. Krungsri could not activate their app on new phone after 45 mins recently, on the phone did not solve it. Had to leave problem with them for a few days.

We have an account with 2 names. When the ATM card expired, we were not able to get a new one due to the 2 names.

But will lead to loss of face.

Complaining to the branch manager is first level.

I did message them on the online contact us form, probably no reply. Always had a quick reply from Krungsri though

She asked to speak to the manager- request denied. This was at Big C  branch Bangkok.

I don't understand why you'd want to open an account, especially after you've already had bad customer service. Imagine something actually happens when you need real help.

Only i million secure in a Thai bank, it used to be 3. So having more than one account which the mrs has access to is a good thing to have

In the US, they didn't even know what a passport is, but they were happy with the fishing-club ID.

Thailand has no monopoly on idiots

Oh no, thought Kasikorn bank were the magic solution to all Bangkok bank disgruntled  folks.

Had an email from them, waiting for result of complaint by next week, contacting them on the website does work. Branch we were in who promised to call never did.

They called today, same nonsense- name on documents and passport wrong way round not same with Chinese passports, what has that got to do with it? - no answer, then they say marriage certificate needed, then back to name wrong on documents. I give up with them, don't they all have degrees? it's like talking to the brainwashed they just kept coming out with the same nonsense and could not answer any questions or explain anything other than these are the rules. Off to SCB then. How did anyone ever manage to open an account with document names 'the wrong way round'?

Is your wife Thai?  We were unable to open a joint account as we're both foreigners, even though each of us have a separate account.

As Thai as they come, she spoke to them in Thai as well just to make sure of what they were saying, might have been OK if she were Chinese!

Try a different branch first and pretend you haven't applied elsewhere

I thought about that but this phone call was from head office I think, might give it a go. It was like taking to a robot- computer says no!

Yes Krungsri does, I have one with my wife although they will not issue a debit card for that account for some reason. Other than no card there are very reasonable to deal with and don't seem to have crazy made up "rules" that make no sense.
