Teachers and Students Protest Against School Principal

A dispute at a school in Bang Lamung District, Chonburi, has escalated into a protest involving students and teachers. On 26 September 2025, around 20 students staged a demonstration, installing a large banner reading “No to this Principal” and distributing leaflets accusing the principal of various misconducts. This followed a request from 20 teachers and staff to be transferred due to alleged abusive behaviour by the principal.

The issues reportedly stem from the principal’s management style since arriving less than a year ago. Teachers cited verbal abuse, excessive use of authority and work outside regular duties, leading to cancelled classes. Students reported missed lessons, the removal of key activities and the cancellation of religious events, affecting the wider school community.

Students also raised concerns about increased tuition fees labelled as “air conditioning costs” despite not having air-conditioned classrooms. They appealed for intervention from the Office of the Secondary Educational Service Area (S.E.S.A.) and for a fair investigation. Teachers expressed concern about intimidation, with one alleging they were told, “If I go down, I will drag you with me,” describing it as a threat.

The dispute has deepened following a meeting with S.E.S.A. officials on 25 September, which teachers claimed treated the issue as a private matter between the principal and staff. The principal has previously attracted public attention in 2022 for disciplining students by making them sit in the sun and mocking hairstyles while in a previous post at Phan Thong District, Chonburi. He was later transferred to Rayong before taking up his current role.

Teachers who have requested transfers remain concerned about the handling of the matter. Students are calling for official intervention to ensure transparency and fairness. The case is expected to continue developing as S.E.S.A. investigates the allegations and addresses the protests.

Sounds like they got a right Captain Bligh in charge there.

How do these unprincipled principals get into such jobs?  Given his previous record he would not make any shortlist of any country with a proper Education system.

They buy their jobs!

Good that the younger generation is complaining about changes. It's the only way things will get towards normal here. They still hit students, using sticks, in schools here, which has been illegal for quite awhile. Getting rid of the corrupt, abusive and those who don't do their jobs right paves the way for improvement in all situations. Younger generation hears and sees how things work in the west and they want it for themselves. Wanting to keep a country suppressed and having sheep isn't a way to improve things.

I admit it's a lucrative position.  One such principal agreed to take my step-daughter onto her staff on condition that I did some unpaid teaching.  I agreed, but our hopes were dashed the following week, when we learned a 300,000 brown envelope from a late candidate, trumped my 39 years teaching experience.

Happily this school and students are critical thinking and I hope they will be rewarded, as the Government  always stimulate critical thinking. In many schools there is the same situation. The principal fill his/her pockets and the school pays for it.. Or the principal is incompetent to be a director... In my place similar things happened

"This followed a request from 20 teachers and staff to be transferred due to alleged abusive behaviour by the principal."

The principal should be shown the door.

I was a teacher in the USA. As a fellow teacher pointed out "They don't eat their own": administrators have the backs of other administrators. The parents and teachers protested at school board meeting to remove the vindictive and incompetent principal at the last high school I worked. Nothing came of it.

It gets tiring at times, the youth these days are complaining about everything.

They don't want to work, most are lazy, always looking for excuses.

And the ones who aren't lazy are who are going to run the world, and complaining is the only way to change anything that's wrong.

Communists eat their own, not management.
