A male Bangkaew dog, reported to be suffering from neurological illness attacked its owners and family members in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi, leaving three people injured on 28 September 2025. Rescue volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation responded to the scene after receiving reports of multiple victims bitten inside a two-storey home near Wat Bang Phut Nai. The injured were given first aid before being transferred to hospital.

The victims were identified as 72-year-old Mr Amnuay, who sustained several bite wounds on his left arm, and 72-year-old Mrs Pranee, who suffered a torn right thumb. Their son had already taken her to hospital before rescue teams arrived. A third victim, 47-year-old Ms Watcharaporn, had bite injuries to her right arm and was treated before being taken to Pak Kret 2 Hospital along with her father.

According to Ms Watcharaporn, the family keeps five Bangkaew dogs at the house. The attacking animal, a three-year-old male, had previously shown signs of nervous system problems but had never bitten anyone before. She said the sudden aggression was unexpected and resulted in the dog chasing and biting her parents and herself.

The dog will be taken for medical treatment for its neurological condition, while the injured family members are receiving rabies vaccinations as a precaution. Local authorities from Pak Kret Municipality have been contacted to assist with handling the dog and ensuring it does not pose further risk.

Officials confirmed that while the victims are safe and in stable condition, monitoring will continue. The municipality is expected to oversee the dog’s care and ensure compliance with vaccination protocols.

Bangkaew! Just another race that should be eradicated. Very unpredictable. This one was mentally ill too. Why do people keep such pets?

Sounds like the dog was very ill and possibly untreated.

Bangkaew are great dogs. Very protective of the owner. My neighbour had one called Bo, short for Rambo. I befriended him and he was awesome - kind of like a Husky that had grown up in the projects.

Well, sure, only playing.

And now he's in good care. And nobody's there to put him down

From the comments, there is a lot of ignorance about this dog breed.
Before commenting on stupid things, you should take a look at Wikipedia to see what this breed is about.

Best to research before judging, as these dogs are very docile towards humans and pretty much the same towards other dogs. Usually it's a human problem, and as far as a dog that has mental issues, that can happen with any species. Dogs have breeds and not races. This from Wikipedia................................................................

This is an intelligent, athletic, agile and robust breed. It will be a loyal and protective family companion as well as an excellent watchdog. The Thai Bangkaew Dog is a loving, intelligent and alert dog that makes an excellent and devoted family companion as well as a good working and hunting dog. This breed will be affectionate with its family, will get along well with children and a properly socialized dog will be gentle with smaller children.

The Thai Bangkaew Dog is not an aggressive breed but can be aloof with strangers and is very territorial and protective. However, this breed is more likely to threaten than bite and attack. It makes a great guardian and watchdog that will loudly announce arrival of any visitor (friend or stranger).

The Thai Bangkaew Dog is a breed that is known to be very aggressive towards other dogs. It will get along well with other animals if socialization is begun from a very young age. This breed is definitely for an experienced owner.

The Thai Bangkaew Dog is an intelligent breed, but is independent and can be stubborn. Therefore, it is not always easy to train. It needs consistent training in short sessions with many rewards such as treats or praise. Repetitive tasks should be avoided, as this dog gets bored quickly.

Agree, dog with neurological condition, how do they know?, these people make statements like that have themselves serious neurological issues ..

Because responsible owners keep their dogs under control  and any dog with mental problems is a worry. For those saying put the dog down, which would be best for all concerned, try getting a vet to  put them down

Sad.  I'm thinking the dog needs to be in a single dog family.

Beautiful dogs.  One of my Thai Heinz 57 dogs must have some of those genes.

More to the point is why does anyone feel the need to keep 5 of the bloody things?

We are only getting part of the story. Something, or someone, triggered this dog.

The story clearly states owner's and neighbour's claims that the dog was mentally disturbed. Maybe they should have called Cesar Millan?

Thats an often used- it can't be the dogs fault excuses. I was savaged by an Alsatian in the street when I was 13. The first thing the Policeman said who came to the rescue was- 'what did you do to provoke it', nothing at all, but he did not seem to believe me. Some dogs will attack for no reason at all, other than it's in their nature,

I am fully aware of the claims of the owners.

Unprovoked attacks are rare.

I was attacked by an Alsatian when I was about 10 or 11. It was outside the dentists. I hadn't done anything apart from watching it take a dump in the carpark. It just ran across the road, bit my arm and then ran off. Must have been embarrassed being caught dumping in public.

As to Bangkaews, I used to have a Bangkaew mix and it bit a friend for no reason at all. He was just walking up the stairs to go to the loo. Some of my wife's relatives also have a Bangkaew and it is known throughout the village. They have had to put up a fence around their house and, if anyone visits, they need to let the family know in advance so they can chain it up as it is known to attack people who enter the house area. Not a breed I would recommend.
