A massage shop owner in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand, publicly accused a deputy superintendent and his subordinates of raping her Laotian employee and extorting money over several years. Aom, the 40-year-old owner, shared her allegations on Channel 3’s Hone Krasae news programme, citing pervasive corruption among local police. The incident reportedly led to the forced closure of her business due to ongoing threats and demands.

Aom began her massage business two years ago, with a focus on health-promoting services. However, she admitted some employees offered sexual services independently. She claimed these employees retained the income from such services and acknowledged that some were Laotian nationals working illegally without permits.

In 2023, a police raid resulted in officers demanding a 50,000 baht bribe to overlook the illegal work status of employees. When Aom couldn't pay, she claimed the officers stayed for drinks at her shop and didn't pay for them. A Laotian worker later informed her that she was coerced into sexual activity by the deputy superintendent under threat of arrest.

Aom alleged that over several years, police officers coerced her into providing free meals and drinks to avoid legal repercussions. She eventually closed the massage shop, reopening it as a restaurant, but faced harassment from a local journalist demanding monthly payments. When Aom refused, the journalist allegedly circulated damaging reports about her new business.

With mounting pressures from both police and media, Aom took her story to the public arena. The accused police officer refrained from commenting during the programme, and the case is currently under investigation. The situation underscores ongoing issues of corruption and abuse of power within local law enforcement in Thailand.

Key Takeaways

  • A massage shop owner accused police of rape and extortion.
  • The business faced pressures from both law enforcement and media.

Welcome to the real world in Thailand with corrupt police all over who target the foreigners, the tourists, the humble people etc etc...not to mention how they are so eagerly waiting at all those night road blocks to catch the first foreigner on a bike on any excuse just to extort money. Happens all the time around Hua HIn.

Not forgetting that she was employing Loations to work illegally in her shop, who knowingly were offering extra's for a fee.

Cops are bad, so are some employers...

She just didn't like the price of the bribe.

Sad little man, just go home and stay there

What a shock!

Police take advantage of sex workers all over the world. Why should Thailand be any different?

It's shameful!

But owner is also breaking the law by hiring illegal workers and probably paying them less than what locals would earn. So not much sympathy from me.

The whole thing sounds very sketchy.

So because the owner was breaking the law, you have no sympathy for the staff who were attacked?

Nice
