A 51-year-old man was killed after his motorcycle was struck by a freight train while crossing tracks in Chon Buri late on 30 September 2025. The crash happened at around 23:00 at the Wat Thong Khung railway crossing in Na Pa Subdistrict, Mueang District. Police and rescue workers found the victim, Mr Jamras Kaewkrong, lying near the tracks with fatal head injuries.

His black and red Honda Wave motorcycle, registration from Chon Buri, was destroyed in the collision. The freight train involved, number 5239, stopped around 100 metres from the site. The victim’s wife, who arrived shortly afterwards, collapsed in shock upon seeing the scene and had to be assisted by rescue staff.

Relatives said the deceased had just finished work and was riding home when the collision occurred. His niece, identified only as Ms A, explained that the family was notified by phone that he had been killed instantly at the crossing. She said he never made it home before tragedy struck.

Rescue workers noted that this particular crossing is known for frequent crashes, some of them fatal. Although equipped with barriers, the location has claimed several lives in recent years. They urged motorists to exercise extreme caution, stop when barriers are down and always check carefully before crossing.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to determine the exact circumstances of the crash. Investigators will also question the train driver as part of standard legal procedures.

I wonder what the plan is when we get high speed trains. These old style crossings, many without barriers, are hardly suitable.

Even when the barriers are fully down, I see bikers, with a death wish, maneuvering through them.  How can you not hear the approaching train and so abandon your bike to escape on foot?

Anything else than fully fenced and/or on stilts would lead to a massacre. Somewhat similar to motorways.

Makes them so expensive.

Reminds of a recent case.

A rider of a three wheeler (sidecar) was stuck on the rails.

He obviously wanted to save his vehicle instead of running away.

Last mistake.

Even so, at some point with 10 seconds to impact, surely self-preservation must kick in?

I thought all mothers teach to look both ways before crossing, guess not

I used to have a holiday house in Chaochoengsao. The Pattaya train used to pass 2 times daily and several goods trains passed too. There's a rail crossing visible from our front window. The booms lower, the red lights flash and a warning sound starts,

so what do the locals do, drive around the boom gates. The latest score on deaths is cars and bikes 3 versus trains 0

Thais don't teach their kids anything, the kids are left to fend for themselves at a very early age.

I see it as the exact opposite. The Thai children are babied all their lives, a big reason they are so naive as they grow up. This especially applies to first born sons.

Sparta?!

But before that, they teach that they are obligated to send part of their salary(help) to their parents every month.

And these people think foreigners are stupid buffalos!

In a society without old age pensions this seems more civilized than the entitled lazy kids feeding off their parents until quite old.

Pass te rails quickly?😊

When commenting on this tragedy, keep in mind that it happened in a culture where traffic lights are ignored, zebra crossings are merely spilled white paint on the pavement, speed limits signs are road decorations, double yellow solid lines in the middle of a busy road are there to align the middle of your car right on top of them, and that driving on a road is a contest about who gets to be ahead...

The result is that some people will cry the loss of a cherished one.

But the culture will keep on....
