Samsen police station in Bangkok will be demolished and rebuilt after structural damage was found in its foundation, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed on 4 October 2025. The announcement followed reports of broken and misaligned piles that raised serious safety concerns. Anutin stated that the contractor must take full responsibility for the reconstruction.

Speaking at the Office of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau at 09:00, Anutin said any unsafe building must be removed. He emphasised that the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning, along with professional bodies, would carry out structural checks. He confirmed that police staff would not be allowed to work inside the compromised building.

The Prime Minister noted the foundations had shifted from alignment, making the station unsafe for use. He said Samsen police officers would definitely receive a new workplace. Initial discussions had already taken place with the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand and the contractor, with all parties agreeing that the station must now be demolished and rebuilt under the contractor’s responsibility.

Anutin added that demolition work could begin soon, though the precise timeline would depend on the project operators. He assured that the government would not delay measures necessary to ensure safety.

National Police Chief Pol Gen Kitrat Panphet confirmed that engineering experts had agreed on the danger posed by cracks and other structural damage to the station. He said the risks were too high for the building to be used in the future.

Kitrat stressed that rebuilding was the most appropriate course of action. He also noted that inspections of nearby police flats found no current indication that those buildings required demolition. The urgent priority was the Samsen police station itself, which experts deemed unsafe.

So Anutin has now gone from a medical to structural engineering expert!!!

Good luck with that, the claim will not last 5 minutes in court! I'm no engineer but blind Freddy can see the pylon failures are a result of the poor infrastructure causing the sink hole that started some distance away from the building. How could the contractor have taken that event into their engineering evaluation.

This is NOT how to fill in a hole             this is typical thai workmanship     and how they build the road   there is NO compaction  Normally compaction should be in layers

Soil compaction is the process in which stress applied to a soil causes densification as air is displaced from the pores between the soil grains.increasing its density and strength to create a stable foundation for pavements. This prevents future problems like settlement, potholes, and rutting by providing excellent load-bearing capacity, reducing water seepage, and improving overall road lifespan. The process involves preparing the site, determining the soil's optimal moisture content (Proctor test), applying soil in layers (lifts), and using specialized rolling equipment suited to the soil type, with constant quality monitoring throughout

Looks like plan A didn't work because the dumped 20,000 truckloads of sand under the cop shop to stabilise the collapsing cop shop . These Thai Eginers are pretty clever but I wonder why that idea was no good ??

This was inevitable. There was never a chance that the existing the Samson station could be saved.

Several references to 'the contractor'. The damage to the piling support of the police station appear to have been caused by the sinkhole not the contractor who built the police station.

I read 'the contractor' as a reference to the nearby subway contractor.

That depends on which company is better connected politically.

Not sure where these Thai, so called civil engineers got there degree from but COMPACTION  is frist year schooling, Dumping Truckloads of sand to stabilizes the cop shop does nothing  without compaction
