I was just about to say that I have a wallet with Shopee, so I checked and I now have this... I've generally payed by QR as I didn't see the advantage of moving money into the Shopee wallet.

You can now use multiple vouchers at the same time on Shopee as well. It didn’t work before, but now I often see at checkout that I’m automatically getting free shipping from one voucher and a discoun

I use Google to search for items and add the word "Lazada" at the end of the search field. Much better results.

I'm using Shopee more every week, one of the advantage over Lazada is you can buy small items and have free delivery, just bought glue 19 baht delivered

I always used to use lazada but started getting so many items refunded after the seller did not send the item that i used shopee and now i rarely use Lazada at all as shopee has also got very quick with refunds when items arrive damaged

Both have COD but now i just scan QR code and Flash leave it by the gate as i cant be assed to run and collect straight away

I use all three: Lazada, Shopee, and Temu. I have found each to be better for certain types of purchases, i.e., food vs electrical components, crafts vs auto supplies. Prices are all over the place, so in all of them, one needs to read 4-5 pages to find a dealer with a decent price, but they can be found. I solved the language problem (and it's a really big problem with Temu's pictures vs what is being sold), with a full-page translation extension for Firefox. Works very well to see/understand the fine print.

Curious: What kinds of things do people normally buy on Temu that can't already be found on Lazada or Shopee at decent prices?

Normally you can download and save the QR codes into your phone. Then you can open your banking app and load the QR directly into the banking app and make payment that way. No need to print anything out to pay at 7-11 if you have a Thai bank account and a smartphone with a mobile banking app installed on your phone from a major Thai bank.

Is it actually possible to sign-up to either Lazada or Shopee via their websites without entering bank details?

Yes, I have accounts with both and haven't provided any bank details. If you just want to use COD on Lazada that is fine. I think there may be certain types of items though where they may not accept COD, but I can't remember. And on Shopee someone else mentioned they don't accept COD at all, but personally I haven't tried and am not familiar with COD on Shopee.

Generally, I buy mass-produced, lower-end goods from Temu. Things like sewing needles for leatherwork, a lot of craft supplies of all sorts! That, plus things you'd expect to find in a 20-Baht Shop. If buying several different items at the same time, they are all shipped together, rather than paying separate shipping fees for each. Comes out a bit cheaper.

Thank you for that. It sounds like Temu is good for small odds and ends, but most of the main product categories are already well covered on Lazada and Shopee.

The consolidated shipping cost on Temu seems useful for multiple small items as you mentioned. Lazada definitely does not do that. On Lazada, you are always charged a shipping fee for each individual item, unless multiple items come from the same seller.

On Shopee, I have noticed times when I had two items from different vendors in my cart and checked out at the same time. I was not charged shipping for either item, even though they came from different vendors. What I am not sure about is whether Shopee consolidated the items for a single shipping fee, automatically applied shipping vouchers, or simply did not charge shipping because of some sort of free shipping promotion. I will have to observe more closely on Shopee how it works on shipping cost for multiple items from different vendors at checkout in the future.

This thread has now expanded to include Temu, which I never knew was even possible to use in Thailand.

I've now just tried to add another address to my account in Temu but it come up with this:

Doesn't seem too difficult. I just open the app, find what I want, place the order, pay for it with Prompt-pay, and get the good a few days later.
What problem are you having?

I think it's as scuba says, my app version was downloaded via Play store in the UK. There must be a different version for different regions.

I have managed to add an address in Bulgaria for my current app, but it just says Thailand is unavailable.

I'm flying to Thailand later today so will try downloading again while there.

I'm not sure if my current login details will be recognised though.

Lazada, because I can use a credit card and take advantage of the points and protections that come with it.

I shop first at Lazada and then Shopee.  I pay by QR.

Noticed last few weeks Lazada delivery has been highly unreliable. It will say get by whatever date when you order and then will say order received and stay like that until the date it's due for delivery. Then when contact the seller they say need more time to pack it . Also will say waiting on pick up by courier and will say that for several days .

Half items I ordered this week are late and I get a measly 2 coins for them not meeting delivery date .

I got the message 'There was a problem with today's delivery attempt - The recipient has rejected the parcel'

When that's happened to me, it's because the courier ran out of time before getting to my address, and wanted to pretend that it wasn't his fault. Another way they do that is to say "recipient asked to reschedule the delivery", even though no such thing ever happened.

when a merchant cancels your order on Shopee and you've already paid and you don't have wallet -- how do they refund your money?

In the past, they forced you to get Shopee Pay in order to receive refunds. After they "banned" (their word) all foreigners from that system, though - without notice or explanation - they now will just return the money to the bank account that you paid from. I had this happen a couple of weeks ago, and the refund was made immediately after the seller failed to ship my order on time.

Almost all of the free shipping vouchers are valid for up to three orders at a time - you can see the details for each one by clicking on the "T&C" for that voucher. (It can be very confusing as to which items qualify for each voucher, since it's not clear what the "Xtra Shops" and "Participated Products" are.) There are a few products for which the seller routinely provides free shipping, but not many.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve done most of my shopping in Thailand on Lazada. Great prices, good savings when compared to retail stores, no need to run around malls or markets looking for things, plenty of coupons and vouchers to knock a bit more off the total, some very decent extra discounts on larger electronic items too, and usually a good supply of free shipping coupons, often several every week.

But over the last week or two, I haven’t been able to find some of the things I wanted on Lazada, so I popped over to have a look at Shopee instead. I do make the occasional purchase there anyway, but normally it’s for things I can't find on Lazada and works out to less than 10 percent of what I buy on Lazada.

The main reason I’ve stuck with Lazada is that I can use my overseas debit card, which means I don’t have to physically bring money into Thailand first just to make an online purchase. With Shopee, none of my overseas debit card payments ever go through. It always looks like the transaction is approved, then I get a pop-up saying it was blocked at the last minute for security reasons. So with Shopee, I eventually have to pay by QR code through PromptPay using my local bank. It’s not a big deal, but it adds a few extra steps: generate the code on Shopee, download it, then open the banking app, upload the saved QR code, preview the payment, then approve the payment, then go back to Shopee to confirm it. Plus I have to use up local Baht reserves I already have in Thailand to buy things on Shopee, which I rather keep on hand for other things I am forced to pay for in Baht locally. Lazada’s one-click checkout with my saved overseas card in the account is also just simpler and faster.

That said, because Lazada hasn’t had what I’ve been looking for lately, I’ve been searching and purchasing things on Shopee more often as of late. I’ve also noticed Shopee is offering better discounts and more free shipping at the moment. Over the past week or two, most of my purchases have been on Shopee and hardly any on Lazada.

In the past, I’ve never checked Shopee first when wanting to purchase an item; I normally just go straight to Lazada and buy what I need. But now I check both sites before buying anything, and I’m starting to wonder if I could have been saving more money all along by purchasing on Shopee. A good example was yesterday with some paper products from Scott. Kitchen towels and facial tissues. Lazada has the Lotus’s store, but some items like this aren’t so competitively priced in their store on Lazada, so I usually would buy the Scott towels from smaller vendors on Lazada. Yesterday, the same items on the Lotus's store on Shopee were lower priced than anyone on Lazada and came with free shipping too. Items I order once a month, now cheaper on Shopee. It makes me think some of these big local retail chains might offer better prices through Shopee than Lazada in general?

One thing I’ve always disliked about Lazada is the search results. You get a few relevant items at the top, then a bunch of half-related suggestions. It feels like they’re trying to tempt you with other products to cross sell you something slightly different instead of showing everything that actually matches your search up front. Usually, I have to click one item that matches on Lazada and then scroll down to the “similar items” they are showing below that item to find a good selection of what I actually was searching for. So it's there and they have it, but you need to dig deeper. Shopee, on the other hand, seems to give more accurate results up front, from the start, which saves me time searching and comparing.

At the moment, nearly all my shopping is on Shopee. I don’t know if this will be permanent, but for now it’s easier to find what I want and at the right price. Delivery times also seem a bit faster on Shopee these days, though that probably depends more on the vendor than the site. Also, anything automotive part related is much easier to find on Shopee.

I'm curious if anyone else is noticing the same thing or experiencing something different.

Same here,

Purchased my new Hisense 9Q fridge from Lazada, delivery was slow (one week), small scratch on fridge door.

Thought it would be delivered by Lotus own fleet, but they used Flash express (worst delivery company in the world).

It cost 5,300bht (inc delivery) and the same fridge was 7,900bht in my local Makro.

So all in all, for 30% savings worth the wait.

It's true, I used both for years, but I stopped using Lazada. At first, it was a bit complicated to compare them, but I found the prices higher than Shopee's. Shopee's customer service is also very responsive. I felt like they trusted customers and took better care of them than the sellers. Excellent product selection. I have a Shopee wallet and have used it before, but I recently got twice refunded, (incorrect product). Their driver collected the returned parcel,  notified me of reception and debited my bank immediately afterward, all in one day very quickly! I appreciate the payment on delivery, even though I pay for most of my deliveries on my mobile, and the confirmation of receipt and satisfaction of the product before allowing payment to the seller. I am satisfied with Shopee and recommend them.

After many years I continue to use Lazada COD to our Bangkok house. I've tried Shoopee occasionally but no reason for me to change. Lazada works well for me.

Lazada will not take my America banks' Visa either credit or debit cards (two different US banks) and there seems to be no way to do a bank transfer from my Bangkok Bank account like my wife does on Shopee.  I don't like the idea of COD for large purchases, so Lazada loses out on those! I just wish Shopee was more English-friendly!

Can’t you use your Bangkok Bank debit card or make a QR code payment using the QR PromptPay option and your Bangkok Bank account?

You will have to register a second Google account while in Thailand (easy to do) and switch to that one to download from the Thai Playstore. I had a similar problem because

I was unable to download apps while on holiday in Europe.

funnily enough - i noticed a difference .after not being able to find Ray Ban meta's in Thailand - there they were on shopee . when i took them into Top Charoen opticician for prescription lenses - i told them i got it from Lazada ....
