Why will it do him good? He said nothing important

When outside  your home country it is a very stupid idea to speak about some countries royalty, government or military as one never knows what may eventuate.Saying i wasn't away is a fools excuse.

It's best to keep your mouth shut anywhere, these days a post in the UK about immigrants can get you a prison sentence, we live in an era of repression, led it would seem by Fascism in America.

Won’t be long before these same laws are enacted in the USA by order of the president.

There is no more freedoms to say what you want or think or even show if it makes a bad impression to others.

I think there is.

It only become a problem when- by being critical- you try to influence the opinions of others in print or media.

Speech is exactly that. Speech. With an audible distance of about 200m. So your audience is limited to persons within 200m. Freedom of speech goes way back to The Magna Carta. Now; freedom of the press is more recent and may have a few caveats.

Freedom of the press originally also had coverage/distance limiters.

A post calling for violence against immigrants can result in prison time. The people who you are referring to like Jordan Parlour,  called for an attack on a hotel housing refugees and asylum seekers.  Tyler Kay was convicted after he used social media to call for hotels housing asylum seekers to be burnt down.  The pride and joy of Wales, Richard Williams, was jailed for his participation in a riot, although he had  posted a racist meme on social media and some tried to present that as the reason for his conviction. And so on.  It is appropriate that these people be sent to jail.

If you want to be angry, complain about the double standard in the UK. Hamas sympathizers have been posting hateful claims on social media claiming that the recent synagogue killings were a plot by the victims, or the USA or israel.  The three worst offenders are Pakistani/Bengali muslims.  Unfortunately, it is tolerated.

Seeing his shirt, I'd say he's lucky that the fashion police didn't catch him first.

Nowadays saying what you think or feel about someone or something is digitalized. so the audience is considerably larger than just those within 200m. Then you have to consider all those who captured it on vdo to post for their own benefit as well as when it gets shared.

Assuming it's actual news and not made up defamation. Being a "reporter" doesn't absolve one from reporting (what they believe to be) the truth rather than making **** up. We have no idea what this guy said and whether it was made up defamation or real criticism. Though I wouldn't be surprised either way.

Exactly so one has to be prudent. Mr. Hunter at 66 should have been smarter.

Remember those words whenever you, your family or friends express an opinion publicly and get a knock on the door at 4 am , better to stay in your hole like a rabbit.

In UK, posters inciting the murder of innocent humans are rightly jailed.
If you find this unjust then you are part of the problem.

The world is definitely getting worse, Voltaire could find refuge in England and Prussia to end up in his nice little "manoir" near the Geneva border. Now all the dictators collude, for the end of free speech.

The Prussian academy, with Voltaire third from the left.

Your phone number works as your ID right now. If you have Facebook, Youtube, X, Twitter, ect, and post on social media, everything is being tracked and recorded. Tik Tok is in the hands of the chosen ones now. Good luck!

ASEAN NOW is the only social media I engage in with a PC.

Is he a bit doopy ? When you want to rant. name-and-shame anybody or anything in Thailand you make sure to have it done from abroad and of course not with your name and photo below.

I agree but 99% don't do that it's enough to protest against illegal immigrants these days, the UK is teetering towards being a police state

No. Use a virtual machine connected to the grocery store.

I agree that would be the best outcome - deported back to Australia where 'media' laws permit people to make such negative comments freely.  If he is released, then other non-Citizens of Thailand committing a breach of Malaysia's defamation laws, will claim 'transnational repression' and get to stay in Thailand. Then Thailand will not be able expect other SEAsian countries to enforce their warrants for same reasons.

Malaysia followed their Laws - he was tried in absentia and found guilty and an arrest 'warrant' issued. Thailand complied with that warrant/arrest order. IMO if he still has his Passport and can leave, then he should do so and return to Australia where the warrant/arrest order would be ignored. He should not expect to be able to break the Laws of an ASEAN country and be 'immune' in Thailand.

Wasn’t he trying to leave for HK when arrested?

Graham Linehan was arrested in UK by 6 armed coppers, as he got off a plane at Heathrow, for a jokey comment he made in the US. 30 people a day are being arrested in the UK for online comments, sometimes just likes or retweets. This guy's own country of Australia will shortly be going down that road I'm sure if their PM has his way.

Unfortunately you are correct. The remaining left wing woke Governments world wide are doubling down on shutting down People who do not accept their 'directives' or beliefs.  But the political pendulum will swing back - like in USA Argentina and many other countries - and these draconian (na*i like) measures they are implementing will only make the backlash at the polls even stronger.

I think he was detained because he was at the airport and when he presented his Passport the 'notice' was triggered.  Perhaps it was because he was going to China - maybe if he was going to Australia he would have been 'let go'.
