Why the Fire Sales on EV's

Featured Replies

JB got a Seal for 999,000, Good Cats down to 569,000 or whatever,

Just got back from MG; down from 1,199,000 down to 899,000.  I thought he was offering me the wrong one.

Something is afoot?

BYD are clearing out MY2023 Seals and the top model at 999k is a bargain for a far superior car in the Accord/Camry space is a bargain.

I would guess a new model Seal coming, although the Seal hasn't sold well since the SeaLion 7 was released here.

I think the Good Cat is now priced correctly, I don't know what model MG it was, if it's the MG4 X-Power, I think it is still overpriced.

I've had a cheaply built  performance hatchback before so the budget feel of the MG4 doesn't phase me.

I think the new models ideal may have some weight.

MG will or has taken all the "sharp" edges off the MG4 so now it looks like all the other suppository cars.

There are changes coming in 2026

Under EV 3.5 subsidy

Import tariffs Up to 40% reduction (for the first 2 years: 2024—2025)

Battery local assembly requirements Battery and its parts localization to commence from 2026

It's all about supply and demand  , they are making too many ...and not selling

as well as they thought ,  oversupply price goes down .

The MG4 is a fantasticly well built car and drives very solidly.

I agree the interior is disappointing.

I believe the UK (and maybe the EU) require car manufacturers to build 20% of their car production as EVs in order to be allowed to operate in those countries. So they just build 20% EVs and then chuck them as EVs aren't viable in the UK or Northern Europe (lack of charger points, expensive electricity, solar not viable, no tax breaks, high insurance costs).

It'd be more a bargain at 250kbht!

First one is 'fake news' ... as that photo was used in a news, business blip 4 yrs ago. (see below), along with use for Romanian fake news.

Second link has be debunked numerous times, as those cars are from failed car rental business, and has nothing to do with poor sales, over production or any other silly reasons people report.  Just inventory from a bankrupt car rental company.  Knowing the particulars, it really was a poor business plan.

We await the news fake BS replies ...  try EV fires, haven't had fake news about them in quite some time :cheesy:

In the UK under the (ZEV) mandate

EV car sales for 2025 is 28% 2026 33%

Penalty for not hitting the sales target was £15,000 per vehicle

The UK Goverment has recently relaxed these targets and car manufacturers can carry over their EV sales targets to later years

In the past uk car manufacturers would sell their stock to either the manufacturer or their dealerships at a reduced price just to hit their EV sales target cars would be registered in December of each year

loads of used EV's with mileage ranging from 0-100 miles are listed on Autotrader but dealers don't appear to reduce price even if they have received a large discount from the manufacturer

cheapest 4 door new EV  car in the UK is £15,000 or B653K so unlikely to dump them

Considering you said EV's are not viable in the UK, it appears you couldn't be further from the truth.
