Pattaya officials are exploring plans to transform the city into a global center for extreme sports by hosting international competitions. The initiative aims to attract thrill-seeking tourists and boost the local economy. In a recent meeting, Mayor Poramese Ngampichet, along with city and sports officials, discussed these plans with Mr. Apichat Rutnin, President of the Asian Extreme Sports Federation, and Mr. Pascal Filippi, Managing Director.

The meeting focused on developing innovative formats for high-adrenaline competitions. Officials hope these events will enhance Pattaya’s reputation as a diverse travel destination. By targeting adventure-loving tourists, the city aims to cement its status as both a tourism and sports hub, supporting long-term economic growth.

Key stakeholders believe that establishing Pattaya as an extreme sports center will attract a new wave of visitors. According to city leaders, successful implementation of these plans could significantly boost the local economy and promote sustainable tourism development.

Looking ahead, efforts will continue to organize and promote these events, marking an essential step toward realizing Pattaya's vision. Officials are expected to collaborate closely with international sports organizations to finalize plans and schedules for upcoming competitions.

Can someone build a baseball field in Thailand so we can bring baseball to kids here?

Cambodia has baseball. Japan, South Korea, Taiwan also.

Thanks in advance.

Although it sounds like a good idea. I do not think it will work out too well. Too many Thais there like to Vdo anything they think is not Thai. Too many times I have seen police search and find someone who did something that may be considered on the edge of being illegal and they press charges for it. Too many times i have read stories about Thai netizens complaining something so the police or immigration interferes. Now imagine some extreme sports entertainers coming to compete. Imagine they are doing something extreme to practice for the contests.. All i forsee are loads of netizens complaining. Thai kids trying to follow and do what the extreme sports professionals do and instead causing chaos. I forsee the police getting calls and reports that will take them away (from their sleep) i mean take them from doing real police work to chase down extreme sports people.

Mostly I foresee many problems associated with the activities being done there for competitions when there are so many Thais that complain about anything and everything and get the police to intervene.

Is the Pattaya leap considered an extreme sport?

Instead of cliff diving, there can be balcony diving. Object is to land in the swimming pool.

Bungee diving will be offered, with a working harness optional.

Jetski racing will be more intense and non participants will be banned from the ocean.

The diarrhea jump and run  will now be bundled with the dash to the curb and vomit .

The kick and pummel event will now be open to all and no longer restricted to bar bouncers.

Go pattaya Go. You have this. No need to invest in proper policing or traffic management when you can offer harebrained  ideas like an extreme sports hub.

Or a new version of dumpster diving. Start at beach road and make it to the end of soi 6 without getting an STI.

Keep churning out them ideas boys...... plenty of room to squeeze another festival or other in!

Nothing new here as most seedy hotel rooms with per hour rates, already seem to be endulging in extreme sports on the bed.

Huh, 99% of this forum posts are complaints about something. Many Xpats are preoccupied with complaining about Thais as you are above.

Getting things done here is exponentially easier than back home and this is because complainers don't dictate policy.  I need a permit it build a shed in my own backyard back home.  Building an extreme sports facility would probably cost more in the planning and zoning stages than the build -555.

Can't have extreme sports without mountains..

No mountains in Pattaya, only a few slopes.

In a country that allows foreigners to be gouged at hospitals and has in past years received scathing criticism about safety standards and overall lack of safety. I'm sure this will solve all Thailand's problems

Jets-ski riding, renting a motorcycle, walking beach road after midnight wearing a gold necklace, bartering with a service worker??

One they will not get is UFC or WWE. No casino for Dana to play in

Oh please... you use my reply to make your foreigner bashing acceptable? What does your reply do other than that. You compare to your backyard home in another country. Which is no comparison at all.

What a laugh and my thought as well.

Perhaps include vaulting broken pavements/side walks, pebble skimming on water in large potholes, soi dog racing, dodging the prostitutes without being accosted...........

Triathlon anyone...? Defecating in a vehicle, plunging into a sh@t-infested sea followed by a prolonged bout of sel-pity and profuse apologizing.

A great idea I played and coached kids for nearly 40 years before I moved to Thailand. Five of my kids represented Australia at World Junior level. Aussie kids are in demand now by US colleges as they have a good grounding through cricket. They a have good eye, they can bat and the new age kids have bullet like arms.

You complained endlessly about Thais complaining endlessly. Yes that is funny and a comparison is appropriate but keep complaining if it excites you which apparently it does. I find your type entertaining - wouldn't want to be you.

It's very rare where Thais complain, let's face it who's going to listen to them anyhow.

I would not want you to be me also.. i did not complain at all. Simply stated what i have seen many times in the news... But i do think you like to foreigner bash. That much is obvious
