A early morning altercation in Pattaya ended with an Indian man being knocked unconscious after reportedly arguing with another man who tried to stop him from urinating by the roadside. The incident occurred at around 00:30 on October 13, 2025, in front of Runway Market along Pattaya Second Road. Rescue volunteers arrived quickly to find the injured man lying motionless in a pool of blood.

Witnesses told responders that the victim, a male Indian national, fell to the ground after being pushed during a heated exchange. His head struck the pavement, rendering him unconscious. Rescue workers provided initial first aid at the scene before rushing him to hospital for emergency treatment.

Police said the suspect, fled before officers arrived. Authorities have not yet released the identity of either man as investigations continue. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to help track down the suspect.

The incident has drawn concern from local residents and business owners, who say arguments and street altercations remain an issue in entertainment areas during late hours. They have urged authorities to increase patrols and lighting along busy tourist zones, where incidents involving visitors and residents occasionally occur.

Officials said that the Indian man remains under medical observation and his condition will be reassessed once he regains consciousness. Police are expected to summon witnesses for further questioning and may issue an arrest warrant once the suspect is identified. The investigation is ongoing.

Would he have been smacked if he wasn't having a pee in a public place where others can see him?  No.  He was smacked as he is showing complete disrespect to the country he is a guest of.   If someone entered my home and decided to pee anywhere other than the toilet they would also receive a smack.  You can call it a hate crime if you want and you would be correct as I have a hatred of people disrespecting a country or a place not their own that they are visiting.   I just hope the person who smacked him hasn't hurt his hand too badly.

I said I've seen plenty of THAI men peeing in public places where everyone can see them, never being smacked. I guess okay to disrespect their home country (every notice how many do not use trash bins, even when they are only a few meters away? or along roadsides?)....

in my post I wrote " I have seen countless Thais take a whiz on walls, signs, whatever on Beach Road Jomtien." I do not take pictures or videos of that. If you have been here long enough and out and about paying a bit of attention, you'd see them too

He was Indian, so lucky he didn’t drop a hot steaming turd which travelers to India will have seen.

The photo/location is not the clearest. On one side of second road is vertical corrugated sheets, typically used to block off construction sites... often those used as pee spots in Jomtien, I assume same in other locations.... much more likely that is where he 'did his business', not in front of an open operating business.

I have been to India and seen the men taking dumps in train yards between the tracks. Not on public streets. Did shoot a vid dude taking a dump along shoreline in Sri Lanka.... didn't know what he was doing til deed was done

Post back and let us know how that works out.

A hate crime is a criminal offense motivated by prejudice against a victim's perceived or actual race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, or gender identity. It involves both a criminal act, such as assault or vandalism, and a bias motivation. This can also include acts targeting property, and if an act is not criminal but still motivated by prejudice, it is considered a hate incident, which can be more serious than it first appears.

Elements of a hate crime

    Criminal offense:
The act must be a crime, such as murder, arson, assault, vandalism, harassment, or bullying.

Bias motivation:
The crime must be motivated, in whole or in part, by bias against a protected characteristic of the victim or a group they are perceived to belong to.

Examples of protected characteristics

    Race or ethnicity
    Religion or belief
    Disability
    Sexual orientation
    Gender or gender identity
    Age
    Nationality

What's your point? Your post is irrelevant since Thailand does not have a "hate crime" Act or specific legislation.

Ok. Thanks for that.

But isn’t this about a guy peeing in the street? Nationality irrelevant.

thats how I read it any way.

Chances are he won't remember this "lesson", so he probably will continue this and all the rest of his misbehavior. Plus, an injury like that is likely to result in brain damage, so he might be even worse when he wakes up, if he does.

Thailand along with a host of other countries needs to address the lack of public toilets.

Maybe so in general , but he is outside of the Runway Market, and I’ll bet you I could find a toilet inside 5 minutes.

He’s had a slash in the street, because he either thinks it’s the norm or he’s too tight to part with Ten baht.
if you are walking along with your children and/or  wife/gf/ potential bedmate, and someone gets their todger out in front of you?….. He gets a punch…. without question

Lots of speculation about this being a hate crime!!

No one knows if anything was said?

Could it be the Indian gentleman was urinating and told it wasn't the thing to do!

He retorted with abuse and got shoved.

Thats not a hate crime!

Every country has their own degenerates that drop litter and take "the world is a urinal" to its extremes.  Does that mean that they should also put up with guests behaving like their worst citizens?  Do you (as a guest in this country) go for a pee in public here too where others can see you and show complete disrespect to this country?  Do you expect to be able to do this without consequences just like the Thai men you refer to or do you behave with a bit more decorum?

Where this guy did it was within 50 meters of a Soi with about 50+ bars, all that have toilets on the premises.   There was no reason he needed to do it where he did.  I hope the police charge him for public indecency on top of his beating.

I think you will be waiting a very long time?

This unfortunate incident reminds me of the Elvis Presley film "Jailhouse Rock".

A young man, Vince Everett (Elvis Presley), is convicted of manslaughter after being drawn into a bar fight while trying to defend a woman.

It's one thing to go to jail for manslaugther for defending a woman. But for defending a pavement against Indian urination, maybe not as cinematographic.

Hopefully the pepetrator will also become a musical hero, after being discovered in jail, like Vince Everett.

You never know how these things can work out.

I'm one of those guys who believes that if your business model depends on drinking tourists, you really need to make it easier for them to find a legal place to pee.  And if you want them to spend their sweaty tourist money to buy snacks, you need to make it easier to find a place to bin the wrappers and empties.

Apparently no one got that memo 😥

Can see in that list objection to offensive behaviour such as urinating in public resulting in losing balance by being pushed  due to being intoxicated and probably belligerent resulting in a head injury from the inevitable fall.

I think the days where drunkeness has been a viable excuse/defence have long passed !

The reason hate crime legislation was established was crimes against victims of a certain nature were being dismissed by law enforcement, prosecutors and judges.

In many states in the US the "homosexual panic" (on a charge of murder) defense has been and is still admissible, as a plea if of "not guilt" or "nolo contendere", resulting in dismissal.

Many lynchings were mob violence based on unsubstantiated rumours of the rape of a white woman, and in the American South, were likewise dismissed.

Whether such need exists in Thailand is for Thai legislators and law enforcement to determine based on need and fairness, and should not be summarily labeled "rubbish" by armchair farang.

Thailand doesn't have

specific 'hate crime' laws.

These go a long way to covering it though.

Constitution – prohibits discrimination based on race, sex, religion, and other factors.

Gender Equality Act (2015) – protects against discrimination due to gender identity or expression.

Labour Protection Act – bans workplace discrimination and harassment.

Criminal Code Sections 326–328 – criminalise defamation and reputational harm.

Criminal Code Sections 206–208 – forbid insulting or defaming religion or its symbols.

Ethnic Protection Act – safeguards the rights and cultural practices of ethnic communities.
