There is now a double yellow line all along Buakhao, that means no crossing the line, maybe a bad accident prompted that

You mean in the centre or simply to ban parking?

Perhaps the USA guy incident, who was hit by a motorcycle taxi in more ways than one.

It's a double line and a single line on other stretches (Treetown).

Either a complete brain fart or big things to come 😁

But for one-way this would make no sense?

It's completely impossible to follow the rules here.

Would mean the final lockdown.

Can't pass creeping Baht buses?

Can't pass push carts???

Parked delivery vehicles...

etc etc

Motorcycle riders staying on their path? 🤣🤣

I guess the double line stretches are the more dangerous parts where no overtaking is allowed, motorbikes are constantly overtaking, avoiding a head on by a second happens constantly there.

Strange, i just checked CCTV and in some parts no line at all

Yes, it's an ongoing job, should be completed March 27.😂

The double lines on Buakhou are Pattaya Klang end, I'm sure they will progress to Pattaya Tai end in the near future

Now city City Hall is collecting fees from us home and condo owners they now got too much money, got to spend it on something.

Here's a live view front of Nature View, just down from the hospital

I don't think the majority of road users and in some cases the highways department actually know what the lines mean .

Single or double, what's the difference?

A yellow line will sort it all out.

Carry on Pattaya. :stoner:

Just now some folks working at Treetown. Maybe second line.

Next month I am there and I am so excited 😆

City hall should just remove the pavements/sidewalks from Soi Buakkhao to enable free flowing traffic.

The first way to half solve this issue is to ban all types of food carts. I was walking along Soi Buakhaow the other day and I noticed that the motorised versions take up 30% of the road width. So there's not enough room for 2 cars or baht buses going either way at the same time.

What difference will it make? Will people stop passing vendor carts and slow-moving baht buses?

Are they adding cops on the street to ticket lawbreakers? (try not to laugh)

Or is this just another photo op?

Yep. It could be just to make the road look more modern for tourism and have nothing to do with traffic rules. The Thai's seem too dumb to really follow the rules. They would need to pass a test on the lines when getting a drivers license without using an agent for the test and being able to read.

Overtaking allowed would be a broken center line (USA)

Indeed, as it is in Thailand as well.  Possibly it indicates the level of the fine that will be applied in case of transgression.

An alternative very local fitting approach to drawing straight yellow lines at Karon Beach:

We've just had a massive amount of road marking completed........long straight stretches are now marked with double yellows, blind corners and brows of hills dotted yellow.

Double yellow brain fart.....

Every single so called road improvement they have tried on Soi Bukow has been a failure....

i reckon the two one ways, Soi Diana and Soi Honey are a success. They need to do it to Buakhao ASAP

We are not in NZ, SIN nor Scandinavia but in Thailand.

Makes a difference to the official who has budgetary approval rights to have the job ordered. Two stripes of paint means double the money so no point to have only one painted. No line would mean no money and three would look too weird to catch unnecessary attention. So two it's got to be. Whether the paint job will have any factual benefits to road users is meaningless. TiT.

At other streets too.

Impossible to pass the parked taxis without crossing the double yellow line.

it's now double the entire length, they've finished the job

Putting lipstick on a pig. The roads are not wide enough and no sidewalks there. Lines are meant for roads that are built correctly for the area. Otherwise, the rule does not work and it's ignored. Or worse, people expect others to follow them, then when they don't it causes more accidents and problems then not having the lines at all.

Was the motorbike speeding or was the guy looking the wrong way when crossing or not looking at all, which is very common with idiots on that street.

If it's a double line, are vehicles allowed to turn like the car above to make a left or right turn, therefore crossing the line, or are they expected to drive all the way till the end of Buakhao?

Also, the white car on the right next to Subway is going the wrong way on the one-way street.

it's a cunning plan

2 lines give double the chance for pesky mocys to slip up in wet conditions

in my area there is no correlation between road markings and potential danger or threats - and nobody takes any notice of the lines anyway

It’s a nationwide issue. Almost every day when I’m driving, it feels as though I’ve “saved a motorcyclist” simply by braking in time as one comes hurtling towards me on the wrong side of the road, trying to overtake another vehicle.

If I didn’t slow down or hit the brakes, I’m certain that in many cases they’d clip my car – and then I’d be the one left dealing with the inconvenience of getting my car repaired.

Meanwhile, the motorcyclists themselves – unless injured, of course – walk away scot-free. No insurance, no money, no accountability for the damage they cause.

And then there’s the darker side of it. Without helmets, all it takes is for one of them to misjudge the gap, scrape your car, and hit the ground head-first. Suddenly, you’re the one in the hot seat – charged with “reckless driving causing death”, because that’s the automatic protocol whenever a fatality is involved. Then comes the trip to the station, the dash-cam footage review, the inevitable clearing of your name… followed by harassment from the deceased’s family demanding compensation, which you have to ignore because you weren’t at fault to begin with.

And even then, you’re still left without your car for days while it’s in the workshop.

As for the idea that a yellow line will fix any of this – not a chance. It’s apathetic policing that allows this reckless culture to thrive. It’s a shame, really – Thailand is a wonderful place, but things like this are a real pain in the backside.

A friend of mine is dealing with the same nonsense right now – a motorcycle taxi slammed into their car. Unlicensed, untaxed, uninsured – and the police couldn’t have cared less. The insurer will cover the repair, but They'll still be out of pocket for taxis while the car’s in the shop and they can't easily afford the extra.
