Actually for the most of us, they WERE the good old days,

There was even a BBC TV program that ran for 30 years ca;;ed

The Good Old Days was a BBC television light entertainment programme produced by Barney Colehan which ran for 30 years from 20 July 1953 to 31 December 1983.

It was performed at the Leeds City Varieties and recreated an authentic atmosphere of the Victorian–Edwardian music hall with songs and sketches of the era performed in the style of the original artistes.[2]

The audience dressed in period costume and joined in the singing, especially "Down at the Old Bull and Bush" which closed the show each week.[2] The show was compered throughout its whole run (except for the first two shows) by Leonard Sachs, who introduced the acts from a desk situated at the side of the stage.[3] In the course of its run it featured about 2,000 performers. Each show was up to an hour long.

Some amazing childhood memories.  Few too many, not so amazing.  Could have done without a few of those 'Trials & Tribulations'.  Seriously wouldn't want to have grown up in any other era, 60s & 70s were awesome times, and somehow, got even better afterwards.

Got away with doing some crazy Ass (stupid sh!t) and didn't kill myself or harm anyone else, miraculously and thankfully.  Then I actually matured, well, maybe.  Still working on that.

The 'Good Ol' Day', yea, OK, but nothing compared to adulthood.  Seems to get better every year, though slowed down with age last 5 ish years.

Happy Day's, Mother worked at Woolies in Wealdstone, and my Sister and I used to be allowed a couple of sweets per visit, probably why I have hardly any of my own teeth left.

My nearest Woolies was in Oldham, still had to catch a bus, I used to go on Saturday afternoon looking through the records, even at 16 I collected records,

Woolworths was founded in the UK in Liverpool in 1909, becoming a beloved retail giant known for its fixed low prices and diverse range of goods like toys and stationery. After a century of operation and reaching a peak of 1,141 stores by the 1960s, the company struggled with competition and went into administration, leading to the closure of all stores by January 2009. The brand name and website were later sold, with the online store ceasing operations in 2015 and the brand ultimately being acquired by a German company in 2021.

Back in the 1960’s Camay was a leading brand of soap. Almost all sold in bars of either ‘Hand’ or ‘Bath’ size. Originally part of Proctor and Gamble and developed in 1926 ( USA company) the brand was sold to Unilever in 2015 ( Anglo/Dutch company)

I could walk, at a stretch, to my nearest Woolies, also used to peruse the record selection.

Think I bought my first single there: Gudbuy T Jane : Slade .( had to google the spelling 😀)

1972, i would have been 11 years old.

Oooooh the good old days... It will never be the same again, ever... Simple, but lovely!

My record player was handed down from my grandad, it was like a mini suitcase and the top half was the speaker.

Mono of course.

My mother had the Sound of Music and King and I soundtracks, my dad had the Band of the Coldstream Guards !

But having 2 older brothers ( 1 was 3 years older and the other 5 years older ) the house was soon full of music in the late 60’s .

Remember those candy striped bed sheets well !

Had to clear my dad’s house back in 2018 and found some in a cupboard, must have been from the 70’s at least, brought a couple back here for cleaning rags while doing some diy, excellent quality !!

A little :offtopic2: but it is The Lounge.

The master of ceremonies, Leonard Sachs, was the father of the late actor Andrew Sachs, best known for his role as Manuel in Fawlty Towers. His son (Leonard's grandson) is John Sachs, former Capital Radio DJ who introduced me to  the "proper" theatre when we went to see "The Importance of Being Earnest" together. I was involved in studio work back then, hence our acquaintance.

I had the pleasure of meeting Andrew at their family home once - a complete "gent" extremely well-spoken and nothing like  Manuel!

To get back on topic...yes I remember Woollies Pick 'n' Mix, a regular visit before the Saturday morning pictures.

Also remember the bedspread and all the cleaning products shown.

Don't have a picture but "my" first record player was the family Radiogram - when you switched it on, you had to wait for the valves (tubes to Americans) to warm up.

Now I don't think that last bit qualifies as GOOD old days - I much prefer modern audio systems - what's a record anyway? 😎

You know what they say - nostalgia's a thing of the past. 😂😂
