Thailand is facing increased rainfall this week, with 28 provinces warned of potential flooding risks amid forecasts of variable weather affecting various regions. According to Sugunyanee Yavinchan, director-general of the Meteorological Department, an active low-pressure system over Vietnam is expected to impact the country from Wednesday to Sunday. The areas affected include the Northeast, East, Central, and parts of the South, including Bangkok.

The warning comes as the Office of National Water Resources has identified provinces at risk of flooding, effective Tuesday through the following Monday. Among these areas are Bangkok and Samut Prakan, which have been highlighted due to their drainage challenges. Other regions like the North, Northeast, East, and West are also on alert for flash floods, runoff, and potential landslides.

Specific provinces at risk include Chiang Mai, Kamphaeng Phet, Tak, and several others in both northern and southern regions. The situation is compounded by full reservoirs in Surat Thani, raising concerns about overflowing. Meanwhile, flooding continues to affect 15 provinces, with nine located on the Central Plains. Declining water levels are reported in most areas, though stability remains elusive in locations such as Chai Nat and Nakhon Pathom.

Experts and local authorities are closely monitoring the situation, urging residents to remain vigilant. Precautionary measures are being emphasized, especially in flood-prone and drainage-impact areas. The conditions are a significant concern for both urban and rural communities, with potential disruptions anticipated in the coming days.

Going forward, monitoring and responsive measures will play critical roles in minimizing the adverse effects of the weather system. Authorities continue to inform and prepare communities about expected conditions, with hopes of mitigating damage and ensuring safety throughout affected regions.

Key Takeaways

  • Thailand anticipates heavy rain and flood threats across 28 provinces.
  • Bangkok and Samut Prakan face significant drainage issues.
  • Authorities emphasize vigilance as reservoir overflow threats persist.

It will be the same like each year, with water piling up to the knees due to badly maintained drainage or poor drainage engineering.

It's been one long rainy season - across all regions.

The most flooding and high water in memory.

It certainly hasn't been in mine.

Nore mine. I live Buriram province.

Here in south Surin we had a couple of weeks with no rain until some very light showers over the last couple of days. To me this signals the end of the monsoon here.

But then south Surin is normally the driest part of Thailand ...

My neck of the woods saw a few afternoon showers last month, nothing heavy or prolonged.

this month hardly anything, absolutely no floods to report at any time this year.

Rice on my farm is going to be poor quality this year because of rain too late and too little.

Perhaps Bangkok dwellers could send us their excess?

And Littering,  (Blocking the Drains)

Great! just in time for the harvest, drying rice on the road will be out of the question.

A wet year but nothing compared to 2011.

It's the last rear up of the rainy season. Here it looked like all over, dry and perfectly mild weather.

Now European weather center shows 30 to 40 mm/day.

Pattaya 10 to 15 mm.

Nothing dramatic.

What if you live far away from the city center and you need a taxi to go to the airport?

i get sms alert about this but nothing happened. It's only to make feel people stressed for nothing
