why does it have to be "classy"? to delude yourself that you're not partaking in something sleazy?

Before I forget, Black Cabin Bar is new compared to the other dinosaur entries in this thread. Nice mix of races and ages.

As to Soi 11, It's what you're looking for with the least hassles. I second Oscar's as in the top 3 steakhouses I have ever eaten in. Also, Yuni's Sushi is 5* sushi at 3* prices. The slightly pricey Dosa King is the best Southern Indian restaurant in town.

I live on Soi 31 and am often on Soi 33 to go to the Propaganda Bar -Bangkok Pat has meetups there. There is a chill little strip of hostess bars in the middle of the block with rooms upstairs, across the Street from the very popular High Thai.

There's also Demonia where 200 baht buys you 4 swats and 4 "thank you, Master's".  Nuru Massage and Karaoke give it a gentle Japanese vibe. Too many restaurants to name, so just go to Sri Trat Seafood or Rava Italian.

Don't you start with the 80' 90' memories and i'll start crying, Never to come back again,

Once upon a time in BKK there were many bars
Where we used to raise a glass or two and many more,
Remember how we laughed away the hours
Think of all the great things we would do?

Yeah pick a young chick pay the

bar fine and take her home with us.

Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way

yup, the girls actually acted like a girlfriend and most of the time they would spend the next day with you.

But it wasn't all fun and sun.. still had the scams and I had to learn if I pick up a girl to get a hotel room otherwise a few weeks later they just show up at your door.

Seemed the girls were friendlier but it could be I was young at the time...lol

If you are looking for prostitutes, there should be no shortage. If you are looking for normal people having fun, solly,,,,it's only reserved for the hi-so locals in the clubs or rooftops.

Uni students go to nightclubs.

They have had a huge swatche of soi 11 cardoned off for some sort of construction for years now . All those years wasted when it could have been used. Now construction appears to have begun, looks like a hotel.

IT'S GENTRIFICATION.

The quicker planning laws are taken away from local governors the better. Cities are being wrecked

I've noticed this. There is a select type of club in Bangkok that is not for foreigners/tourists.

No there isn't it. Walk into any club.

Yeah, Suk Soi 11 still hits the sweet spot.

Start the night at Oskar Bistro — good food, solid drinks, and a nice mix of people without the sleaze factor. Then wander over to Havana Social if you want a speakeasy vibe, or Hemingway’s for something a bit calmer.

When things pick up, Levels is right across the road — good crowd, solid music, and not full of backpackers. Or try Aces down at the Ambassador — newer club, polished setup, and a good crowd without the chaos.

If you’re still going after that, Above Eleven has killer rooftop views to wind down.

Still one of the few streets in Bangkok where you can make a full night of it without ever needing a taxi.

Thank you for the helpful reply. I'm not a fan of the street scene on Soi 11, all the Nigerians, the Indians, and what not. But what you are suggesting sounds like the best option.

So you’ve got a mate coming into town, he’s been around Asia longer than most, and you want to take him out for a few drinks, maybe a bit of food, a place with some atmosphere, perhaps some eye candy floating around, but at the same time something classy. I don’t want to take him into the belly of the beast. That scene feels so finished and downtrodden, but I’m wondering if there’s anything else left that’s still decent at all. Where would one go these days?

The closest thing to a USA Strip club is Billboard in Nana. Good music, clean, well run, hot babes, fabulous staff.

Getting there is a bit dodgy but.....

As to just regular bars, pick a rooftop,

Agreed. Isn't that why Amuricans come here? To escape their texan hat bars?🙃🙃

As to just regular bars, pick a rooftop,

When I was working in the 'City' (London) a visit to what we called a laptop bar was one of three things:-

1) Pi$$ed spur of the moment to end the evening

2) A treat - eg someone's birthday - part of the itinerary for the evening

3) An obligation as I had client's in town who I had to entertain via expensive restaurant and then to see some minge.

I get the impression that in the USA these sort of places might actually have been someone's 'local' - what we in the UK would deem your 'usual boozer/local'. The watering hole either nearest to your house or your favourite local place. Swifty after work, one or two before your dinner, mate's having crowd trouble with the Mrs, wants a chat etc.

I couldn't imagine going there day after day as your 'local' Tits out, potential of getting kicked in the head while some doris is flailing around on a pole etc.

Is that really the case? Are there these type of places that people use as their 'local'? It would probably spoil it for me - I wouldn't ever view it as a treat again.

If its a "loc al" strip club  in the USA, you dont want to be there

Back in the eighties and early nineties Bangkok had hotel bars. You could eat, drink, watch women, and not have to pay for a hook up. Just hang out, laugh with a mate who's popped into town. Many had live bands or a DJ. Erawan Hotel’s underground bar was a scene. That’s what classy meant. Not expensive hostess bars being suggested here where you pay women to sit and drink with you. That is no fun. It's nonsense for Asian men.

I had many a good session at the Golden bar / Nana hotel it was  a great people watching bar and they didn't rip you off and the girls didn't annoy you for drinks if you didn't want to buy them one. It's a shame it has been turned into a U.S . ripp off joint.

You could recite poetry for the jaded to bring them back to reality...eg... I grow old I grow old I shall wear the bottoms on my trousers rolled.

Better come to Chiang Mai, some of the best bars in Thailand are here, I'm talking classy bars with Brazilian Jazz and cocktails, not ladymeat.

No lady meat? that mean you have to ''eat at home'' after and outing that gives you the urge?

Themmae in my time with the entrance from the back was a dive, you only went there when you struck out at the other, better stocked up bars around, so what? so it's the place go now? how time change.

No it just presupposes that you can find your own dream lover and then, suitably attired, are able to make your way to one of the various high class bars that have been chosen among the 10 best bars in Thailand, enjoy the outstanding cocktail creations, the live Brazilian Jazz music and have a thoroughly spanking night out.

Who goes to a bar alone? That's just sad.

I know Queens Plaza sukhimvit 22 was torn down but always wondered if any of the bars relocated or anything?

I heard some did to soi 16 but went there and the vibe was a bit different.

Sing Sing Theatre is still a good spot.

There are loads of cool cocktail bars all over Bangkok, or you could go to one of the higher class hotels, they all have nice lobby bars.

You really shouldn't have a problem finding classy places to enjoy a drink in Bangkok.

Short-times from Hooters? I don't think those owls play that game, but I could be wrong.

The best bars IMO have closed e.g. Safari in Patpong. Also Radio City which, although not closed, but has had a lick of paint and quadrupled its prices.

Saxophone Bar at Victory Monument is worth a visit.
