Inspection - Road Tax

Featured Replies

I just moved from BKK to Ban Amphoe/Najomtien and need to renew my road tax.  In BKK I went to an inspection place that sold me compulsory insurance, did the inspection, and let me pay my road tax.  One stop shop.  I'd return a few days later to pick up the blue book and sticker.

Does anyone know/recommend a similar shop in Ban Amphoe or Jomtien?   Thanks in advance.

This requires a good eye, but look for these Thai characters in signage.

"ตรอ." (Tor Ror Or) Vehicle Inspection and "ปรบ" (Por Ror Bor) or mandatory vehicle insurance.  These places usually have vehicle bays where they inspectors can get under the car.

There is a government compulsory insurance that you have to pay about 350b if you want better insurance then it will cost you from around 6,000b to around 12K for an extra 50b they send it all to me by EMS.

All I do is go down CockPit (as they are connected to the government system) and tell them to "Por-a-bor Krap" (MoT for UK folks) for 200 baht, and they test the vehicle and issue its road-worthiness certificate, then that goes straight to the government site. After getting that, I swing a U-turn and go to the road tax office and present the document plus the slip from the car insurance certificate, pay 2500 baht for my 4-door pickup, get the tax disc and off I go... really very simply.

Depends where you are , I guess... but the procedure is the same wherever you are, even if you have to go a little further than I said (just my experience where I am), as that's not exactly the end of the world.

Road tax office (DLT) in Banglamung is out near Regents school.

I prefer to use one of the dozens of agents scattered around the place, I have one 5 mins from home.

Tick Insurance Agency (not TikTok) does all the annual tax paperwork provided you have insurance with them.   One stop.

Not obligatory, until it is asked for.

Oh sure that’s the disk.  At first I mistakenly thought it was a piece of paper

Call it a piece of paper if you like.

Either way I give zero <deleted>.

It's color printed paper indeed 😊

It is issued by the DLT after presenting the necessary documents (compulsory insurance, vehicle inspection report for older vehicles) and having paid tax at the DLT office. Together with that the vehicle registration book will be updated by DLT with the latest tax payment.

It's absolutely mandatory and has to be attached to the vehicle in a way that it is easy visible.

If not, you are the #1 candidate for being stopped and fined at a police checkpoint.

For a car at the inside of the windshield (left side).

For other vehicles there are misc waterproof cases.

Older vehicles: inspection required for cars older than 7 years (then yearly).

Motorbikes older than 5 years.

A tongue in cheek comment directed at the poster I quoted. It seems to be the way things  go lately.  I will use an emoticon for future use, to help you.

You don't need the inspection certificate until the vehicle is 8 years old.

I have found that just about all the inspection stations will also provide the Gov't insurance (apparently a fee set by the Gov't as it the same with them as with the Land Transport Office if you get it there), and for an additional fee take you vehicle book, insurance certificate, and inspection report to the LTO to update the book and get the window sticker - my two vehicles are over 7 years old, and I have been doing this at different inspection stations around Pattaya for 3 or 4 years now. The additional fee for doing the paperwork at the LTO was 300 baht and you pick up your vehicle book and sticker in a day or two.

I expect that if your vehicle is less than 8 years old, they would still provide the insurance and the visit to the LTO for you even if you don't get an inspection.

Why not go to the TRO, they get your tax and insurance for you and you generally get a free bag (0.5-1KG) of rice too, no need to make two trips, and no, your car does not need to be 7 years old to take it there, they will process cars of any age, tax and insurance with updated blue book all ready to collect from their one stop shop - Like Thai passport offices and applications,, some things just really work well here

Why do they need to get under the vehicle in order to kick the tyres, see that all the lights and horn work, and drive it round the block at full revs.
