"Rigged" ATMs.

One of my biggest paranoia is about "rigged" ATMs: I usually use the ones I consider "safe," i.e., those inside shopping malls. But when that's not possible, I use the ones outside a bank, being very careful to cover the keypad while entering my PIN and wiping it down with a cloth (in my sick mind, I think someone might be able to trace my fingerprints). Is my paranoia/fear justified, or should I seek treatment from a reputable professional? 🤪😁

Go with the latter :shock1:

Recommend people only use ATM attached to, or inside a bank, even better, and only during banking hours, in case card gets eaten, you can retrieve it.

Definitely don't use any stand alone ATM anywhere, unless absolutely necessary.

And use a bank app to pay by scan where possible (e.g. K Plus) and reduce the need for cash.

No, it will work simply wrapped tightly around the card. It is a Faraday Cage.

It would make more sense to wipe the keypad before you enter your PIN. Just imagine what you might catch off it.

Because I find paying by QR code  / scan so easy and convenient. Just my opinion.

It won't be very convenient or pain free in the near future if your carbon/social credit score says no more xyz  this month

or as witnessed recently the internet goes down.

Once cash is gone they will have total control..so easy and conveniently.

I use Western Union or Money Gram that my bank offers for no fees.  Just send the money to my self.  It is cheaper than ATM fees, better rates, takes some time at the bank to get the money but take out a large sum, it is worth it.

I've got one that can see.jpg

So good you had to say it twice

You have every reason to worry about scammers at ATMS. All they have to do is straight  after you use it they can scan your fingerprints and put a blank card in and it will activate your card using your prints and they can withdraw your money.....how many people believe that rubbish ????

What is this thread even about. 🙄 In case of ATM skimming scam bank will just refund you.

Oh no they won't.  Admittedly a few years back, (before phone apps) I noticed a withdrawal of 10,000 baht.  I went to my Bangkok Bank head office on 2nd Road.  I got a print out of the last several months and there were others.  The helpful manager identified where the 'faulty' ATMs were situated.  I protested that I'd never, ever even been to Sattahip.  He said maybe I'd told my TGF my PIN.  I hadn't.  She doesn't drive and we were together virtually 24/7.  Only the bank and me knew my PIN.  When I asked about a refund, he shrugged helplessly.

Buy some pockets and have them sewn into your pants. How can carrying a few little pieces of paper currency be a pain?

20 + years living  in 2 or 3 different provinces using an ATM machines all over the place, and  the only problem I've had is  when the card gets swallowed  x3 , nothing more, touch Wood,  guess I've been lucky,

My Thai Mrs.. who uses her Phone for Banking and Payments has  been Scammed   a few times, but still uses the phone for Banking

Are these Dominion ATM's?........don't trust them.....they are definitely rigged......I have the evidence.

don't worry ..  Dominion machines have been bought by a republican

"Liberty Vote has acquired Dominion Voting Systems," Poulos said.

In a statement, Liberty Vote said it is founded and run by Scott Leiendecker, whose LinkedIn profile says he served as the election director for the city of St. Louis until 2012. News articles from the time indicate he was a Republican.

oh.  and the dems are freaking out !

Why a thumbs down emoji? There's nothing complex about my post, payment by bank app (e.g. K Plus) is very easy and quick and you have records and no need to pay a fee to withdraw cash at an ATM and no need to find appropriate notes cins to pay in cash. Ultimately it's personal choice.

I try and only use ATM's outside my bank (Kasikorn - any branch) whilst the branch is open. I normally take out a fair amount each time. This is predominantly in case my card gets swallowed for whatever reason. At least then I can go in the branch to retrieve or resolve the situation if there is a problem.

I once had a card swallowed by a non Kasikorn outside a 7/11. Inside they were not able to help which I fully understand. Had to contact the bank to cancel the card then visit a branch to obtain a new one.

All good ideas.  I had an ATM card swallowed once just because I took too long removing it!  I had made the withdrawal, the card was pushed out and waiting for me to grab it, the machine was beeping, I was fiddling with putting the money in my wallet, Suddenly the card went back in!  This was in the USA at a wells fargo.  So there seems to be some time out period which makes sense.  No idea if that is universal across machines or banks.  So take the money and card run!
