Because some government officials' misconduct has led to the entire population of the country and their guests being penalized?

So we can buy the alcohol between 2 and 5 p.m. but not drink it outside anymore in the future?

Government officials no longer drink in the afternoon. Today, officials do not go out drinking during working hours, so the ban should be lifted,” he stated.

they just start at breakfast now!

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😬🤯

I was brought up in the UK when bars were only open from 12-3pm and 5pm-9pm, and only for 6 days a week. No alcohol on or off sales on a Sunday.

As for slow learner or more to the point poor comrehension skills the poster was talking about 11:00 am and the inability to purchase alcohol before this ridiculous start time.

I don't know what you are dribbling on about but the person I quoted definitely mentioned the 2 to 5 ban.

There has never been an inability to purchase alcohol before 11 am, or during the afternoon, but some want everything their own way.

There is a saying about being in Rome.

Yeah. Those fruits are on an Island singing kumbaya while the rest of us have a doobie in our mouth, a beer we just bought at 2pm and going ballsdeep on 941 out of Rainbow 5

I thought the '9' prefix was to define those of the third gender?

Each to their own I guess.

No, they are actually a more recent crop of Issan beauties. Ever see a number 1 these days?

But you would have tried that no matter what number I give.

Indeed. My apologies. Comment withdrawn and if there's still time deleted.

There were lots of kiddie fiddlers in Rome in the Roman days..

This government has openly displayed their leadership deficiencies!

The 2 - 5pm ban & sales on Buddhists holidays was lifted by the previous government who showed they were proactive in moving out of the last century, then you clowns come along last week and reinstate it. Obviously a move that had no thought process and added further dismay to a struggling tourist industry that Thailand is so dependent on. Your tourist neighbouring competitors will be laughing all the way to bank!

Obviously I'm referring to places like Big C and 711. As for wanting "everything their own way" what's wrong with wanting common sense. 11:00 am opening and being closed between 2-5 pm is anything but common sense and based on flawed logic. BTW why what is the logic behind the 11 am opening time. The 2-5 is definitelty flawed logic but I can't remember seeing or knowing why it's 11 am.

I wish they'd make their minds up.

This flip flopping is insane. People aren't going to book a holiday thinking it could flip back again a couple of times before they even get here.

That is sadly a reality . They don't seem to think things through and consider the outcome of their actions of shooting themselves in the foot . They are becoming a laughing stock and are certainly losing face globally . You would think that any change in the laws would be brain stormed by a panel but this doesn't appear to happen , or does it ?

Now waiting for another announcement tomorrow .

It was never lifted. The last bit of insanity was to enforce it and fine punters Bt10k for having a sip any time between two and five and after midnight if not in 'designated areas'. As for prohibition hours and Buddhist holidays this was, and as far as I know still is, only applicable to airports and international hotels.

No thats not correct, in June this year there was a news release by the Thaksin government which was to take effect immediately. It referred to Hotels, bars, restaurants, airports and other licensed premises in all the tourist regions. All public holidays with the exception of 1 and the 2 - 5pm ban was scrapped. Then more recently the current government also stated similar citing substantial revenue increases which of course was pie in the sky stuff because at the end of the day Mom & Pop shops were always an option. So this recent about turn by the same government is also a contradiction of their previous media release, an  indication of their governance capabilities!

Not a big change for me, I never drink alcohol in day time but i would like to drink after midnight to have good time in some clubs but ???

I'm not against the lifting of the rediculous ban...but the reasons make me laugh.

Government employees no longer drink during office hours and

To increase income....money before safety.

I'm super confused. I read in BKK Post that there was a 10k fine for day drinking.

Now it's much ado over nothing?

I'm asking because I enjoy day drinking and 9/10 out in day than night.

So, this would especially apply to lower Sukhumvit I imagine as entertainment area???

Just Monday I bought a few bottles of scotch at big C right before 2pm. I think the law applied to consumption on premises.

That's an insane reason and even more insane to admit it

It's a false reason because they don't even know anymore why the ban exists (existed?)

Kangaroo government.

I could be wrong (again) but maybe the zero beer is in the alcohol section of the cash register which can't be used during banned times.

I know one C shop couldn't sell anything in the alcohol section if it went thru the cash register at certain times, so just paying cash for alcohol overcame that problem.

Before at Makro was the same problem buying zero beer, but they've sorted that out now.

I was joking, but yes it is in the section with all other beers and it wont go through the till until 5 pm, I like to play games with the staff, telling them it's not beer, I love to see their faces when they just go blank and dont know what to do, I've not done it for a while,

Bangkok post says 2-5 ban removed at end of this month.

So all a storm about nothing.

Let's see what Monday's law brings.........total ban, free alcohol, hours moved to 5am to 9am only....who knows......exciting stuff.

in england they were brought in during first world war [1914/1918 ] to stop the armement factory people blowing themselfes up !, it was lifted in 1988 !!!!.   The church and anti drinking people were very powerful and could sping an election. Draw your own conclusions especially when you have a very strong church !!!!!

When I was a kid back in the 50's it was 12 noon till 2 pm Sundays, I remember because my grandad used to religiously, he's be first outside before they opened, The evening on a Sunday closed at 10 pm, during the week was open from 5pm till 10-30 pm with 20 minutes drinking up time, The Off License was the only place open Sunday evening, I know Scotland didn't open at all on Sundays, I think it varied around the country,

Where I come up it was always 6:00AM- 2:00AM. Seems to work

Nothing good after midnight. Early bars for cops and factory workers coming off graveyard to have a few

pops before bedtime
