What is Thailand the best at?

Featured Replies

I'd like to know what your thoughts are on these two questions:

1) What positive thing is Thailand the best at?

2) What is both uniquely Thai and good?

Thank you.

It is true thai people around the country is extremely helpful whatever it is, or whenever it is needed.

But I have experienced the same in muslim countries as well Christian countries, and one time I actually did run out of gas on a motorbike on the highway in Florida, an older couple stopped, asked if I had problems, and they went away, bought gas to me, and when I wanted to repay them for their trouble, then just told me to pay it forward. Which I have done many times with them in my mind every time.

I have several occasions to report how helpful the Thai's are. I got a flat on the super highway and pulled off. The DHL Shop put my bike in the back of a pick-up and drove me home to my local bike repair shop.

I strongly disagree @SAFETY FIRST  Cycling across countries for fun, I've experienced numerous acts of kindness. Mechanics taking apart and servicing my wheels and refusing to take anything. Policemen helping me to find a safe place to store my bike...

Not just western countries, but also foreigners holidaying in Thailand. I meet nice people often, everywhere.

A friend of mine cycled across the USA with no money. A project. How do you do that without human kindness?

Spread the love and stop the hate.

How many people did you see offering girls an umbrella to keep them dry?

Pretty clever and resourceful people.  Ladies in general are friendly and demure.  They believe in the importance and benefit of all types of massage.  Food spices are fantastic.  Folk music is wonderful.  Thai ladies speaking in calming and descending tones is music to my ears

Not in the USA, as someone is always complaining about someone else's idea of enjoying life, that don't concern or affect them at all.

Your caveat about big cities and tourist areas is spot-on.

You forgot to mention the instinctive courtesy so often shown by Thais of all classes.

Entrepreneurialism ...

They start early!

Long ago, myself and a mate did a van border run. Whilst waiting for the return van we were sat slurping on beers.

The young lady (she must have been 9 or 10) who brought our beers was cute with a lovely Thai smile and got to keep the change from each beer.

A little while later we noticed that she had gone around the corner and bought some umbrellas/sun shades (evidently using our tip money) and was selling them at a profit to people queueing in the sun.

Of course she also continued providing us with beer for the same tip rate.

The West is a big place.  Maybe in your part of the West.  Not in mine.  Many good Samaritans about.

Pet shows! ... specifically at QSNCC

Never seen anything like it 😃

The very high standards of powerline and electric instalations ...and electricians with the abilty to understand that no foreingn electrican ever could.

could.

Something Thailand used to be great at but is fading out. Services on the side of the road. Shoe repair, watch repair, eyeglass repair, fan repair, even clothing repair and alteration. Used to be everywhere. Sadly seems to be dying out. The service is still there but harder to find.
