  • IMHO the most ironically named product in the world.

  • Reality Check:   Despite the branding, Smartwater is essentially purified bottled water with electrolytes. It’s not inherently healthier than tap water or other bottled waters.   (

Americans are gullible types.

In 2018, Smartwater was awarded the German Goldener Windbeutel ("Golden Windbag") anti-award by the consumer rights advocacy group Foodwatch Germany for "the most brazen lie in food advertising" that year. The group said that Smartwater is "nothing but ordinary water" sold by advertising a "scientifically-sounding but completely unnecessary production process" which yields no proven nutritional benefits, for as much as seven times the price of regular water.[18] The product also won the Dutch Gouden Windei ("Golden Windbag") prize that year.[30]

The Coca-Cola Company repudiated the criticism and said that it followed all applicable food labelling regulations in a transparent manner, that Foodwatch had nominated Coca-Cola in order to attract attention to itself, and that "the success of the water with consumers proved that they liked the product for the taste."[31]

I prefer my water with malted barley, hops, and yeast.

That’s nothing, this bottle of namthip on the table just taught my three year old advanced calculus. All for the princely sum of 8 baht.

your opinion is noted.  The bicarbonates in it have been shown to be beneficial.  Tastes much better than basic pure water

It's just Coca-Cola's getting in on the health market.

Simply water with electrolytes in a fancy container designed for the gullible.

you are entitled to your opinion but many world class athletes are discovering and showing that some of the contents in that water such as bicarbonate work very well.  helping in Neutralizing acidosis If I understand the papers

If you want bicarbonates dump some baking soda into your next smoothie

half a teaspoon of baking soda and pink salt will do the same and will be cheaper!

I looked and the bicarbonate in Smart Water is potassium bicarbonate, not baking soda.  It (KHCO3?) can be used to increase the potassium in people who need that.  And obviously, low in sodium for people who need that.

I'm not recommending Smart Water.  I don't claim to know if it's any good or beneficial.  And you may be able to get potassium carbonate from the local drug store in Thailand, or get it from the zillion other "hydrating drinks" available at any 7/11.

BTW...  I'm not a fan of the Coca Cola corporate business model.  I'm convinced that they have single handedly plumped up millions of Americans for decades, with all the inherent health problems from too much sugar.  (Not to mention the 300 pound body positive beauties cruising the US bars looking for Mr Goodbar.)  And now they're doing it internationally.  I'd give Smart Water a hard pass just on that basis.  But that's not what the OP asked.

Do any stores sell smart water in Pattaya?  It might be an expensive import and only stores like Tesco, Friendship, Macro or others would carry?  I am not seeing it in 7 11 web searches at the moment.  It really is a good water product and is my go to drink

Obviously not working too good.

They sell it in Malaysia. You can stock up if you ever go there on holiday.

Dehydrate it to pack more in your luggage.

Here's a fun fact for you

Water recycled at a Sewage Plant comes out crystal clear, no smell and it is alleged you can drink it

Spray it on a hot truck exhaust and it stinks like a dirty urinal on a hot day :omfg:

Here's a fun fact for you - that's because there's nothing much filthier than truck exhausts.

You haven't spent the night with Lek from the 69 bar in Chiang Rai, have you ?

If it really was smart, after buying and drinking it, one would realize how not smart they are.

Don't think smart water will help

What is most likely to cause acidosis?

Causes include liver failure, low blood sugar, alcohol use disorder, cancer and intense exercise. Renal tubular acidosis. Renal tubular acidosis develops when your kidneys don't pass enough acids into your pee. As a result, your blood becomes more acidic.

Bicarbonate is neutralized by stomach acid and is reintroduced to the intestine in the duodenum.

I was told your g/f was a tad more stinky, but don't worry I have no plans to see if it's true

I watched a recent video on Youtube and then googled it to see if the data was also included in other searches , not for "smart water" but for fake ripoffs and this time was Extra Virgin Olive Oil.  From everything I have recently read, 70% of the EVOO sold today in the stores is not actually Extra Virgin Olive Oil at all.  15 Brands were mentions as failing the laboratory tests for true EVOO, 2 of which I have purchased at RImPing and Topps.  One of these previously sold s pure olive oil from Italy has been bought out by a Chinese company and what was previously tested as good quality EVOO but now fails all the lab tests.  I won't mention and brand names here but one can search on Youtube for the 15 fake EVOO or google the same and included is a way to tell if it is in fact ceritified (by a lable on the bottle, not a clear bottle.   Australian, Spanish and some California EVOO are named as good quality.  The testers advised one not to buy blended olive oils.

Their bottom line fits the above also - "you get what you pay for" and usually quality EVOO are seldom sold on sale cheaper than the other oils.

When I lived the US 1991 I spotted diet water.

Ah ha!......so the Yanks know exactly what they have to do......clever.

Lower nutrient density means people must eat more food to get the same vitamins and minerals,

Ha ha. Fat F@#$ers.

I could well have missed it but I haven't seen the price mentioned anywhere.

How does it compare to a normal bottle of water or perhaps more relevant, a bottle of Gatorade?

If it's something like 100 baht for 330ml bottle then it must be good!

I just buy the common mans electrolyte powder which is something like 250 baht for 30 pouches. it's mostly glucose but that's what I'm after for cycling.

If you're interested in just the vitamins then buy just the vitamins and skip the fancy branded liquid. Most of the cost is just shipping product anyways.

So I brought home a bottle of it and drank a glass of the stuff.  I says to the missus "it tastes like normal water."

She says "see? you're getting smarter already!"

(joke recycled from school days)

Again, only my opinion obvs, anyone on even a half decent diet (in the absence of specific medical issues) has no need of any herbs, supplements, special waters, or magic potions of any kind.

Agreed, along with creams, lotions , collagen, detox and all the other "health drinks" currently advertised unrelentingly on TV. Must be the biggest legal con on the planet at the moment. Despite all of these products scientifically proven to offer little to no health benefits at all , many of them are "reassuringly expensive" which astonishingly  seems to help them sell,  along with all the usual b/s  testimonies from aging  tv celebrities and nowadays  annoying internet influencers. it pre dates the internet  Its been going on for years,  and as an industry it must be worth billions

Bicarbonate is an incredibly inexpensive product to purchase, so why don't you just add some to your local filtered water?

I avoid very popular and overpriced products like the plague these days .
