OP, here is recent update from service out of Bangkok to Laos.

From posted link.....

Visa Rule

Updated(22.11.2025) Visa Rules as we understood it

You mention same day from Bangkok to Nong Khai.

You do realize how long that trip is.

You could consider flight to Nong Khai and stay couple of nights OR.

You could look into flight to nearby country stay several days.

My pick would be Saigon where I'm currently typing from.

You must have already obtained 30 day extension to your ve entry.

thanks, their website sadly does not give clear information.

Is the rule now is 1 or 2 nights in Laos?

thanks, i did not need help to enter, i just wanted to skip the 2 days out in fact

I posted a link to agent doing run from Bangkok to Laos.

Along with contact details.

Suggest you get info from horses mouth.

Without agent two days minimum and  even then may hit you up for flight ticket out of Thailand. (Nong Khai)

I don't think there's any border run service that uses the Nong Khai border. They used Mukdahan, but see the website that @DrJack54 posted above, that service is currently on hold.

Maybe you could check with them (and some other providers like Thai Visa Centre and Friendly Thai Visa) if you can use their airport safe entry service.

I don't think that IOs, esp. at the airports are "fooled" anymore by 'a couple days out of the country'...

Depends on history. OP up to 5 months already.

That's why I posted this earlier:....

"You could chat with safe entry service (air) and consider that option "

True. I have entered Thailand three times so far this year (never more than 26 days), and arrival always a breeze... 😆

For all intents and purposes the land borders with Lao are closed to bouncers.

Doesn't matter what your entry/say history is, they will not let you stamp out and just turn you back at passport control.

Reports are they weren't even letting people with valid multi entry visas out and back.

The only people I heard they were letting out at Nong Khai or Mukdahan were people that were saying they were going to the Thai Consulates in Vientiane or Savannakhet to apply for a Visa..

I know several border bounce/visa run companies are trying to set it up so they can bounce people out and back but at this time nothing's been hashed out.

I would say, (especially for people who've milked free stamp (visa exempt) entries to stay here for an extended time) if you want to get another free stamp entry contact a safe entry company to get in by air because right now bouncing by land isn't gonna work

Don't let people leave if they are returning with their valid visa.

Let people leave that are applying for a visa to come back in with a valid visa.

Make it make sense.

They don't allow out-in bounces. If you already have a multi-entry visa and want to leave and come right back, they currently don't allow that.

If you cross the border to Laos to apply for a new visa in Vientiane or Savannakhet, you won't come straight back anyway, as the visa application process takes a few days.

A good option for some including the OP, to actually obtain SETV eVisa.

For the OP a return flight to somewhere... Obtain the eVisa and return.

He is located in Bangkok so flight easy option.

Typing this from Saigon and one could easily spend a week here waiting for process time.

If the immigration people could just tell us how many days we have to spend outside the country before coming back , it would make life much easier and allow proper plans to be made . Instead we have all this uncertainty. Crazy .😬

Seems like the Lao borders have "come to their senses" at least a bit
AND
They are letting people with valid multi-entry visas bounce out/back

Here's a stamp from someone with a 6 month METV who was allowed to bounce out/back at Chiang Khong/Huay Xai up in Chiang Rai on the 21st

So at least there's something positive 🙂

Crossed border yesterday from Nong Khai to Lao by train. Thai immigration guy double checked that I had a multiple visa and no issue.

What    would he have done if you didn't have a  multiple visa and your Thai visa expired that day ?

I have no idea. I have few months left in my visa. I found that odd but he was all smiles after confirming it was multiple. Let's see if any issues when I go back (today or tomorrow). They did pull some people aside for questioning but did not follow if they let those out or not.

I'd guess they would tell you that you cannot come back. As a courtesy.

No issues when coming back either. No questions & passport stamped with a correct date.

Guy who checked the ticket asked me twice on the train if I really want to go out in Nong Khai and not continue to Bangkok 😅

The "two VE entries per calendar year" part of the new regime intrigues me. Whether this will be rigorously applied or strategically ignored - probably both/neither.

Dr Jack in another thread considered the possibility of  VE (60 days)+extension to visit Thai wife (another 60 days)+a 30-day extension, ie 150 days on a single entry. If that was applied according to the new rule, and with careful timing, that could be done twice in a calendar year without the hassle of a non-O marriage extension, perhaps........
