Sorry, but irrelevant to me, as I don't drink alcohol between 2-5 p.m. at airports, bars, or hotels... 😆

In the past, I often did my grocery shopping during that time, so, yes, the supermarkets lost out, as I bought much less beer than planned... 😆

Here you go.

Purchasing Alcohol as a Tourist in Thailand

Foreigners visiting Thailand are permitted to consume and purchase alcohol legally in the newly exempted locations, regardless of the time of day. However, locations not affected by the new law are still restricted from selling alcohol from 12 am to 11 am and 2 am to 5 am. These locations include:

Grocery and convenience stores

Restaurants and bars (that are outside the exempted venues)

Department stores

Supermarkets

During restricted hours, these establishments will not sell alcohol of any kind to any customers, Thai or foreign, as they could face fines or other harsh penalties.

Not for retail sales.

Ok you say only in specific areas and others like myself say nation wide which means every single 711 that sells alcohol in Thailand, and all Big C, Lotus etc. We'll find out if your right or wrong soon enough. Please copy and paste where in the OP it says this doesn't include the stores previously mentioned nation wide. I read it as a blanket lifting except for Buddhist holidays where the same restrictions and exeptions hold.

I never said anything about it being in only specific  areas .  Go back and read the op then read what I wrote. I was clear,  it's you that cant seem to understand.

@redwood1 posted "I would say 7-11 and Big C qualify as retail sales....So we can buy beer between 2 and 5 soon from a retailer.."

Your response was: "No".

You're saying the lifting of the 2-5 prohibition isn't for retail sales. Next week if the law is lifted go to a 711 at 2:05 p.m. and see if you can buy a beer.

An outdated article prior to the latest decision. If you want to argue that the lifting of this law is not for retail sales I suggest using an article that's up-to-date.

New Thai Law Allows 24/7 Alcohol Sales in Thailand at Certain Venues

"The new alcohol regulations were made into law when they were published in Thailand’s Royal Gazette on June 27th, 2025."

Your link is an outdated article as I pointed out.

"The new alcohol regulations were made into law when they were published in Thailand’s Royal Gazette on June 27th, 2025."

This will change next week when the new law will be Gazetted.

Do you not understand what's happening" It would seem you don't. What is this thread about. NEW LAW with the lifting of the CURRENT LAW.

See the O.P.

Retail sales is NOT mentioned.

Perhaps that's a fault in the writing of that article.

But for us to know what most of us care about -- lifting of the hours restrictions in 7-11s, etc., please explain why that is NOT mentioned?

You might be right, but I can't process how anyone would be CONFIDENT about that at this point.

• Thailand’s 2025 alcohol-control reforms formally exempt airports, licensed entertainment venues and hotels from hour-based sales restrictions.

This refers specifically to having no exemptions which is already in place i.e. "confirms that sales restrictions will not apply to three exempt venue categories: international airport terminals, licensed entertainment venues operating within legal hours and hotels permitted under the Hotel Act. These venues had already received similar exemptions under earlier Prime Minister’s Office announcements issued in May and June 2025. Those announcements also allowed five types of locations to sell alcohol on major Buddhist holidays, including airports, entertainment venues, tourist-area establishments, hotels and venues hosting major approved events."

Again you have nothing specific mentioning RETAIL SALES such as 7-11s. Just admit it already.

Could easily be another lost in translation type of thing but it comes down to how people READ what's been released. I am not reading anything that would give confidence about 7-11s. You seem to be reading  something into it that simply is not there.

The 2-5 will be lifted. Next week when it's possible to buy a beer at 711 between 2 an 5 I'll remind you of your line of arguement. Thank you for your attention.

This has become an endless loop of silliness. That's your interpretation only. and you can't provide actual evidence of that. Might be right, Might be wrong. We shall see. I hope you're right of course.

I hope I am too. This is what AI says.

Yes, the government has approved the lifting of the 2-5 pm alcohol ban in Thailand, including for stores like 7-Eleven.

Will this only be in designated areas? I say no. It will be nation wide.

I look forward to enjoying a cold 7-11 beer at 3 PM in the afternoon.

I checked that too and then they linked to the Siam Legal item that I posted that says nothing of the kind. AI is quite often full of it.

Still missing -- something authoritative, recent and SPECIFIC about such retail sales.

So far, nobody has posted that.

You once again mention the Siam Legal article which is citing the previous law (still in place as of now) which the new law is overturning with modification to sales hours specifically 2-5 and midnight closing being extended to 1 am. Surprised you haven't worked this out yet.

Read more carefully dude.

I'm telling you what AI referenced which cited that link as THEIR source saying 7-11 non restricted sales were going to happen!

More silliness from you.

You have still failed to prove your assertion.

You might be right but there is no proof.

I wrote that the  regs are for 3 categories and explained 7 11, big c, mako etc  are retailers and NOT bring changed. Go back and read the OP, its in the first paragraph and then read what i wrote. Retail outlets do not change

Well I guess you'll see that retail sales stores are not exempt soon enough.

The OP is pretty clearly outlining who gets exempted. I have a cafe and have all appropriate licsenses and spoke to the govt office about it last month when we renewed. You go with what you think though

Last month the change in policy had not been announced. I suggest you go back and ask. As for the exemptions if you read it correctltly these are the exemptions already in place vis a vis no restricted hours which includes Buddhist holidays e.g. airports are still 24/7.
