Bangkok will implement ten new measures in 2026 to reduce PM2.5 levels, aiming to improve air quality across all 50 districts. The measures were announced following a meeting at the Central Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command Centre, attended by Tavida Kamolvej, Bangkok's deputy governor, and Pornphrom Vikitsreth, chief sustainability officer of Bangkok. These initiatives aim to address vehicle emissions, industrial pollution, and promote public awareness.

A key development is the expansion of the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) to encompass the entire city. The Green List Plus project will encourage maintenance among 500,000 vehicles by promoting regular oil and air filter changes. Additionally, Bangkok has tightened its black smoke exhaust limit from 30% to 20%, effective since November 1.

Pollution inspections will become stricter, particularly at construction sites. Six-wheeler trucks will need to register under the Green List initiative, while 256 factories with steam boilers will undergo regular checks. The dust-free classroom initiative, which has already been partially implemented, will expand to cover its full target of 1,966 classrooms and 262 nurseries by next year.

Looking to modernize work habits, the BMA plans to broaden its work-from-home measures to include 300,000 workers, building on the 100,000 participants this year out of a targeted 200,000. Public participation in the pollution alert system is also set to grow, with enhancements such as cell broadcast alerts and extended pollution forecasts from three to seven days.

Experts emphasize the necessity of these measures, as recent reports indicate poor air quality in many regions, including Bangkok where most districts display high particulate levels. This underscores the need for comprehensive strategies to mitigate pollution's health risks and improve urban living conditions.

Increased awareness and proactive measures signal a crucial shift in tackling Bangkok's pollution challenges. However, sustained effort and public cooperation will be essential in achieving air quality goals by 2026, reported Bangkok Post.

Key Takeaways

  • Bangkok's 2026 plan includes ten measures targeting PM2.5 pollution reduction.
  • Measures involve vehicle, industrial controls, and expanded public alerts.
  • Success hinges on public cooperation and extended pollution forecasts.

"Bangkok will implement new measures aiming to improve air quality...."

Been hearing this every single year for decades now come the onset of cool season. Nothing will improve until the onset of the next rainy season.

There's nothing said about the main source of PM 2.5, crop burning. Whilst this is a century old practice there are now green alternatives to burning.

Laughable....

I don't believe burning is the main problem at the moment.

That has been the governments excuse for years but no burning this time of the year.

I see smoke belching trucks each and every day and you are not going to tell me the police does not see that.

There is not enough will and urgency to improve anything,it could interfere with the flow,if you know what i mean.

So there is hope . 😉

They've been "encouraging" and "promoting" for decades, with no result. Maybe it's time to try "requiring" and "enforcing" for a change.

Implement, encourage, embrace, encompass - all that sounds so very competent, when in fact Bangkok still operates this red buses belching smoke:

can see them hourly on Patthanakarn Rd

". . . encourage maintenance . . ."   Equals a plan dead on arrival.

And, not just there.

Crop burning is not an issue for BANGKOK  or any of the large Tourist areas other than CM.

Most of the things they talk about here are for BKK's benefit.

Each province can set their own rules, but again, it needs to come up with a way that fields can be reused without burning.

Just watching a YouTube video where they talk about ranches and farms in Oklahoma burning the fields so tht they can get a better crop of grass for their bison.

So really I am not sure what the solution is.

...It Seems That 'Alternating Even & Odd Numbered Licence Plates' Daily Has Worked In European Cities (?)...

...Also Reducing Traffic Congestion... (?)

The old excuse.

Just that now there is literally no crop burning going on.

Find a better excuse for the locally made exhaust and traffic disaster.

Stop the tax advantage for buying bulky smoking Diesel trucks at least for non commercial use.

One of uncountable points on the list.
