Gold Worth 300,000 Baht Missing from Thai Spa Locker

The British couple told the hotel receptionist that they had withdrawn the money from an ATM the previous evening and that the ATM must have given them fake bills. But the receptionist knew better: She asked them where they had gone AFTER withdrawing the money. And they said that they had gone for a massage nearby, during which they had left their possessions, including their $400, in a locker at the massage parlor during their massage. The hotel receptionist then told the British couple that that's where their real dollars were exchanged for the fake ones.

You must also beware the receptionist palming the real $100s and replacing them with fake $100s.

Someone suggested taking a photo of the serials on any notes you get from the ATMs, so you can see if they get swapped out. Maybe signing them in pencil!

Back to the OP,

Gotta be crazy to carry 300kbht in gold and leave it in an unattended locker.

  • If you are referring to the spa that is complete nonsense. They have no reason to account for the reckless behavior of this customer whose actions seem very suspicious to start with.

Believing the theft occurred during her shower, which was outside the massage room, Suwadee confronted the spa staff. An attempt to clear suspicion involved publicly checking the bags of three employees, but no stolen items were found. The spa owner refused accountability, citing a sign that exempts the spa from responsibility for lost valuables.

Cop-out by the Spa shop

Could be.

on the other hand. It could have been one of the employees who retained the spare key from management or even the management themselves upon seeing her entering the shop with all that gold. Temptation is not easy to overcome when greed interferes

We won't. This is the end of the story.

But it still would be interesting.  I would like to know if the lady is hi so.  If not I would ask for proof.  Do they have camera at door or reception

She should be fined for gross negligence. Who takes gold worth 300,000 baht along when going for a spa treatment?

Is she that much in need of showing off? Well guess what, that actually did get someone's attention, albeit of the unwanted kind.

Hope the Indian insurance companies don't read this story otherwise the Indian who has multiple thefts will start with a claim form starting with" another one of my gold necklace was stolen out of a" Thai Spa Locker" The Insurance company might say , "this is your second claim in the  last week and your prior claim that another was stolen by a ladyboy in Pattaya?"😅😅😅

Nothing new here Typically pathetic and witless Thai bash

Disclaimers of responsibility for valuables left on premises are not unique to Thailand. For example, parking garages all over the world state clearly that valuables left in cars are the responsibility of the car owner, not the car park operator.

You're right. A bigot is still a bigot, no matter where they move to. Everything gets blamed on their favorite cultural scapegoats. The signs are EVERYWHERE in the world, "NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR VALUABLES". Because you can't be responsible for another person's risk taking behavior. You can't be responsible for another person's stupidity. Anyone who knows how to read knows about crimes and how to avoid being a victim.

I don't understand that people are wearing such expensive jewellery if they go to a spa, or even on holiday.. Why is it needed to show off?? It happens all over the world... keep your valuables at home

Fragile egos and low self esteem - they have to show off and prove to the world that they are better than we cheap charlie silver and turquoise wearing westerners. So I guess you might call this a wealth tax. It would be a lot cheaper to just get the therapy you need to resolve your self esteem issues.

Wouldn’t catch my wife going to a spa wearing her expensive jewellery, she’s not that vain. She knows the kind of attention it draws.

??  Why bring those valuables to a spa?

Initially, I thought maybe b.s. and she didn't have that, but it sounds believable.

300000 only ?

It's tea pot money for an hi-society girl 555

And never tell anybody what you have or where it is.

Its ' pretty clear that someone  '' massaged '' the goodies out of thr locked and secure wooden safe and got a happy ending.

Dang it, it's only a 5 baht gold whatever. Not that flashy really.......

I don't, not even a gold wedding band anymore. :glare:

In your role as 'Captain Obvious', you state that you 'limit' her?

Reminds me of that scene in "the Shining" when Jack Nicholson asked his imaginary barman at the Overreach hotel, (the one who murdered his own family).

his advice to Jack Nicolson, was that his wife, Wendy - needed 'correcting'! - just as he had 'corrected' his own wife .... with an axe!

but I know what you are saying and it's perfectly sound 'advice', to 'limit' her!

PS. By the way, do you happen to own an axe?

Just curious ..............and kind of checking that ................. ! S'OK, none of my business, right?

It was a spa. Not a recreation center. But yeah, it still isn't a good idea. It was probably an employee who seen the jewelry and decided today was a good day to quit.

But that is the problem with jewelry. Some people want to feel like a big shot. If you cant wear your jewelry on holiday or anything then whats the point of it ? When else are you going to wear it ? When you're mowing your lawn ?

Bulsh**. Not always. Some people are just into jewelry. It is their hobby.
