Not "invented" by Henry VIII he split from Rome and replaced the Pope as head of the English Church, as the Pope found it impractical to grant him an annulment. (A practical not theological decision).

There was no "protest" involved, the reformers wished for a return to the simple gospel Christianity of Christ and the Apostles, minus the unscriptural rituals and corruption of Rome.

Luther's 95 Theses were meant as the basis for an academic debate, mainly about indulgences being sold for cash.

It's not an independent religion in itself, the Anglican Church is a denomination of the Christian religion.

 

It is only the State Church of England.....the rest of the UK has other arrangements.
