Fake Hair-Buying Scam Leaves Woman Bald and Unpaid

A woman in Thailand has fallen victim to a shocking scam, culminating in the loss of her hair and a promised payment that never surfaced. A male barber exposed this deceit on Facebook, alerting fellow professionals and the public to be wary of such fraudulent activities. The incident unfolded within a group of Thai barbers, highlighting the vulnerability of women looking to sell their hair.

According to the barber, the victim entered his barbershop with the intent to sell her long hair. She insisted on having the cut done at his establishment, despite his initial advice to visit a more appropriate salon. Given her persistence, he proceeded with the unusual request after a supposed hair buyer confirmed it over the phone.

The buyer instructed a drastic shave in a skinhead style, a significant departure from the typical haircuts for hair-selling purposes. Despite the barber’s reservations, the woman consented and agreed to film the process, expecting a 2,000 Thai baht payment. She reassured the barber of a tip once the transaction was completed.

After the haircut and video submission, the buyer's response was simply, “Is this all the footage you have?” Subsequently, contact ceased, and the promised payment was never fulfilled. The harrowing experience was confirmed as a scam, and the victim received nothing for her sacrifice.

The barber posted the conversation on social media, hinting that the scammer's motives were likely voyeuristic rather than commercial. His public warning serves as an alert to others in the industry, emphasising the need to exercise caution with unconventional hair-buying requests, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways:

  • A woman was deceived into shaving her head for a fake hair-buying scheme.
  • The scam involved filming the haircut with a promise of payment that was not delivered.
  • Barbers and the public have been warned about fraudulent hair buyers with unusual requests.

No.. thankfully

Some of us seem unaware of the poverty in this country. A woman has to be desperate to cut off her hair for 2k baht.  There is a market for hair, but I don't think 2k is the wholesale price for the amount she's selling.
