what a crock... they bombed a supposed call center building. How is that a threat or retaliation?

maybe it was not a threat but it needed sorting anyway , a case of "while we are at it , then why not"

  • Well done, Donald. That should last another five minutes or so. It won’t be the end of it since both parties suffer greatly with that need to preserve face but more importantly that ambiguous border a

  • Good intentions but the ceasefire holding is a long shot as it was originally. Of course this thread will rapidly descend into anti-Trump rants.

FCDO now advises against all travel to within 50km of the whole border with Cambodia except for Koh Chang, Koh Kood and the other islands in between them, where FCDO continues to advise against all but essential travel.

This must be a disaster for those two very popular tourist destinations at peak season.. Cambodia's casinos must be pretty empty now too, except for Phnom Penh.

Bombing those casinos was suprising. The Cambodians haven't suggested that any gamblers or hotel guests were injured, so I guess maybe they were actually military targets as Thailand said?

I'm in Chanthaburi as well, 14 km from the border with Trat and about 30 km from the Cambodian border. I did here what I thought was thunder this morning, but maybe it wasn't.

Apart from the obvious access to off shore resources why does Cambodia have gripe with the Trat border. The slither of Thailand extending to the East does look a bit odd. But then if this is another water shed issue the so be it. The Cambodians can't have it both ways. If the border is in an odd position giving the advantage to Thailand then I would shut up about the temple. The Off shore resources must be worth more than an old temple miles from anywhere with limited tourist potential. Just hang on to that bit of Gulf of Thailand coast.

Just looked at the satellite view and it looks like the border follows the ridge line so I can't see that the Cambodians have anything to gripe about with the Trat border. The border at Preah Vihear also follows the ridge line except where the temple is and there is a very obvious error in where the border is.

I don't know how much danger there is to places like Kho Chang but I did see yesterday that the Cambodians have a missile that has a range of up to 130km. I've got a flight from Trat on Tuesday so I hope things don't get any worse.

I suspect it's something we farang wouldn't understand. Much like a lot of things here.

its currently unusable without access to chinese satellites for guidance and at present the chinese are not allowing access..   That may change But if they do use it their claims of self defence will not be accepted, it will be the start of the end for them as Thailand will destroy them

Britain and France as colonial powers go all the stick when they were in control. So this hasn't been a problem for France or Britain for more than 65 odd years. The French were kicked out of Viet Nam, Laos and Cambodia in the 50s. Burma got independence in 1948 and Malaysia in the 1957. Now having said that then the ex colonial power must take responsibility after walking away but in the case of Malaysia. The UK is no longer a dominant country in the World so why is a British problem when both the two warring were not ex British colonies.

The top World economies in order are US, China, Germany, Japan, India, UK, France. So five countries ahead of the UK in the pecking order. When Britain does get involved it gets stick and when it doesn't it gets stick. Damned if we do and damned if we don't.

thanks for the history lesson I know allot of kids these days dont know anything, but I'm older and we had history class in school.

Strange you're talking about the UK being treated just the way Trump is treated, doesn't matter what he does it's wrong.

sorry you're so upset that the UK is irrelevant these these days, but the UK still has a voice and the world isn't hearing it!

I just returned from dinner with a group of Thai friends, one of whom is an officer in the Air Force and he showed me photos of advanced munitions that China has been supplying to Cambodia for the past few days. In addition he reiterated the tight claim that Cambodians are laying mines within Thai territory.

As usual Trump is living in an alternate universe of his own creation, and there will only be a ceasefire when Thailand takes out the Cambodian Armed Forces entirely, or when Cambodia surrenders. Hun Sen is up to no good and my heart and support is with the Thai nation.

The fact that Thailand is going into an election complicates this situation probably immensely. So right about Trump. What a total clueless clown.

I guess some companies didn't get the message that the US is so bad, as they are building new plants in the US, or maybe they understand something you dont.

That Tariffs help promote local growth and the economy. If Tariffs are so bad then why does just about every other country have them?

Hi Kimamey. I'm guessing you are in Khlung area ? You say 30 KM to the border? Interesting - maybe I made a mistake but on a map today, I tried to measure the 'crow flies' distance to the border from Chanthaburi south. My efforts, which could be wrong, showed about 120km to the border and about 180km to a road, (thinking of the rocket launchers).

I'm interested how close the border is, academic interest. I'm guessing you are in Chan province close to Trat. Anyway, if you are up for a Chang in Chan anytime, no problem. Stay safe.

I doubt it was thunder you heard. ATB

Yes rumours abound. But I heard the rockets from the launchers have a range of 25 miles . . . . .

Cambodia uses 8 varieties/variants of rockets/launchers and this one at least has a maximum range of 70-130 kms (according to payload):

the first in the entire history of politics?     In case you never noticed. that is what they all do   from AI.....

Famous political lies range from campaign exaggerations like JFK's "missile gap" and Nixon's Watergate denials to claims of mass deception, such as George W. Bush's WMD claims about Iraq, Obama administration spin on Iran, and Donald Trump's numerous falsehoods, including denying election results and making up stories about Canada, alongside scandals like Boris Johnson's "Partygate" denials and George Santos' fabricated life story. These instances highlight deliberate falsehoods for political gain, cover-ups, or strategic misdirection, impacting trust and policy

and who could forget clintons "i did not have sex with that woman

In other words, Trump is right up there with all the other famous liars that you have mentioned, although he probably holds the record for the MOST lies told.

It's no secret that other countries have tariffs, but do they change from day to day depending on the mood of whoever is running the country and at rates determined by outrageously inflated numbers?

So Trump getting credit for something he didn't achieve is preferable in your eyes preferable to a ceasefire? Sick

I like money, but it's not absolutely everything to me and I've lived my life in an ethical manner having been in business for myself for most of my lifetime. I treat the people that I work with very fairly, I've made good friends in the process I have a lot of repeat customers and a lot of good will, and for me that's priceless.

Yeah how dare Zelensky not concede territory to an invading force who declared war on a sovereign country and have killed between 60,000 and 100,000 of his people.

Yeah, it's all Zelensky's fault.
