The online community is buzzing with a viral Facebook post from a concert-ticket reseller claiming a catastrophic B850,000 loss. The woman, alongside a friend, gambled on purchasing 327 tickets for the Nanglen Music Festival, Pak Chong, aiming to profit from resale. Originally costing B2,600 each, their total investment proved disastrous when the market was flooded with excess tickets.

Last year's rapid sell-out and the advice from ticket distributors suggesting limited availability this time influenced the woman's decision significantly. With expectations of earning B50-100 per ticket, the plan seemed sound. However, the organisers unexpectedly released more tickets, prompting a steep drop in prices as the event approached.

Facing oversupply, resellers slashed prices, forcing the woman to offload tickets for as little as B200, many still unsold. She confessed the financial hit wiped out savings, pawned gold, and a financed car. Emotionally, she described feeling overwhelmed and standing amid ruins, expressing her plea for support and thanks to those who assisted, reported the Bangkok Post.

The post ignited a social media frenzy, attracting both sympathy and criticism. Some condemned the ethics of bulk-ticket resales, while others revelled in the misfortune. Due to intense backlash, the Facebook post was deleted after relentless negative commentary.

Key Takeaways

  • A concert-ticket speculator claimed a B850,000 loss on Nanglen Music Festival tickets.
  • Over-supply led to drastic price cuts, devastating the reseller’s finances.
  • The story sparked online debate, leading to the post's removal due to criticism.

A scalper got scalped!

I really do not see how this is newsworthy. A scalper takes a chance on being unable to sell every ticket they purchase to be used in scalping.

They probably released more tickets simply because this scalper bought so many of them. They thought they would have a much larger crowd of people coming so opened up more seats.

She should stick to scalping Taylor Swift and Black Pink /with Lisa tickets.....The sheeple drones will pay any price to see these 2...

If youm gambling you can win or most of the time you loose.. It is her own greed that scalped her.. No merci for it

Investing 850,000 in the hope of a 25,000 profit wasn't the greatest idea in the first place methinks.

Best news today    😂

if she is looking for sympathy she won't find it, tried pulling a fast one and it backfired spectacularly LMAO

Business is about taking risks now with capital in anticipation of profits beyond outlays. She took the risk and lost. And so it goes

Kind of like the Bitcoin market the last few months. 🤣 Except with Bitcoin a whole lot of people will lose a whole lot more money.

My heart bleeds, hope they borrowed the initial outlay from some really nasty Tong gang moneylenders, with the interest due yesterday.

May not be news-worthy to you...

You win some the   majority of  times you lose some

Greed never pays 😱

Horrible idea with virtually no risk margin. Prices go down just 10% and she loses 85k lol

I expect that she would have sold them to the highest bidder

I've been reading quite a bit about this issue in Europe and America. Ticketmaster has pretty much cornered the market on ticket sales of big acts. Annoyingly, for some time, they allow tickets to be purchased then relisted on their site at hugely inflated prices by the initial buyer. Not just concerts, but pro league sporting events. Under pressure to stop this, Ticketmaster has thrown it back at the event organizers (like the band) where the Artist can say 'no resales above face value'. To no great surprise many artists ignore that, and perhaps they make a percentage of the excess prices as would Ticketmaster. (However, UK government said it would make it illegal for ticket companies to allow inflated resales). So it's good to see a 'som nam na' moment for these Thai women.
