Why is Trump so thin skinned?

Featured Replies

Many of us who have good self-esteem and a fair amount of self-love realize that other people's opinions just don't mean anything, insults roll off of us like water off a ducks back, and what other people are saying and thinking is just not a big deal. Personally, I just don't care.

The exact opposite seems to be the case with Trump. I don't know if I've ever seen a bigger snowflake in my lifetime, and I don't know if I have ever encountered anyone with a higher level of victim consciousness than Don. It's a sad thing to witness and you know it comes from somewhere. He likely possesses a great deal of self-loathing and his willingness to strike out at anyone and everyone who is critical of him is certainly evidence of that personality fault.

I recently encountered this essay which I think is spot on in terms of an analysis of somebody who's so highly critical of others, and so deeply intolerant or criticism. The thing that makes Trump's intolerance so stark, is that historically world leaders have been able to overlook criticism, since you kind of ask for when you put yourself in that position.

Overly critical people usually have a sensitive, fragile ego and lash out for fear that anything they can’t understand or relate to will crack away at their defenses.

Most of the time, criticism isn’t even a disagreement. It’s not because someone feels angry, upset, or betrayed. It’s because the outcome of somebody else’s decision making in some ways damages, threatens, or chips away at the critical person’s self-esteem.

It’s way easier to be the kind of person who is easily insulted, is constantly virtue signaling, and pointing out what everybody else is getting wrong. Hence, it is far more challenging to absorb messages that contradict our own thinking, spend time evaluating an alternative opinion, and accepting that our belief systems might not be quite as flawless as we think they are.

Most overly critical people have grown up in an environment of negativity and don’t know how else to react. Kids who are often put down and bullied by parents, peers, or older siblings can associate an argument – even a gentle one – as a direct attack. Therefore, they revert to criticism as a knee-jerk reaction to save themselves from an assault on their delicate ego.

To some of us who are outside the Trump bubble it would appear that he humiliates himself and shoots himself in the foot daily with his juvenile rants, and his non-stop critiques of other people.

  • Who would have Trump festering in their brain for 50 years, Trump was just a draft dodger back then....🤫

I heard it said a long time ago that some people who don't feel very good about the themselves, like to cut other people's heads off to make themselves feel taller. That sums up Don.

Exactly.

Just wait until we start psychanalyzing them.

Then the fun begins.

Great topic. Why is Trump thin skinned? Heres how it should start:

"As someone who has carried a grudge festering in his brain against Trump for 50 years ever since he fired/beat me/exposed me/ in NYC in the 80s, I want to know why Trump is so thin skinned."

@spidermike007 you better hope Trump stays alive, for when he is gone, your entire reason for existence fades away. He is still beating you too huh? Hes the Pres, what are you?

Trump certainly is the quintessential snowflake, as whiny as a bagful of 3 year olds told they cannot have ice cream.

We can only guess as to why. Two things might have impacted his woeful insecurity and made him so vulnerable to even the most minute slight.

One is what his niece Mary has said about Trump's childhood and relationship with his father. The father often used the term "loser" with Don. Be successful, or be a "loser". Years and years of that, according to Mary Trump, had major impact on Trump's sense of self. He clearly is needy. Make that NEEDY. Watch one of the North Korea-style Cabinet meetings and that is abundantly clear.

A second possibility is that a guy who tries to champion himself as some macho Alpha type packs very little under his tighty whities, according to Stormy Daniels. His insecurity regarding that was made quite clear in the first Republican debate in 2016, when Marco Rubio commented about Trump's tiny hands. In front of an international audience, Trump was compelled to address that, make mention of his junk, and say "there's no problem there; I guarantee". No statement could have screamed "woeful insecurity" any louder.

So in order to try to make all of that go away, Trump spews endless bluster and hyperbole about how great he is, how "only I can do this", how "nobody has ever seen anything like (what I did)", and how he's a "like, really really smart"  or "a stable genius".

Remember the stable genius said he would sue anyone who released his university transcripts. Had he done well, his transcripts would be required reading in every public school in the US, and he would have framed copies of them in his golf courses and in the White House.

He is behaving like someone in the early/mid stages of dementia...

It should be noted that Trump by his own account has "ACED" three dementia tests...

It should also be noted that a doctor will administer a single dementia test to determine health but multiple tests are used to assess the progress of the disease...

There is no question about the fact that math has never been one of Trump's strong suits.

Bang on cue, hook, line and sinker. The sycophants and their deflections.

NPD exists on a spectrum—but hypersensitivity is widely recognized in clinical descriptions and research.

Actually that was a deflection

Being thin skinned is one of the "perks" of being a malignant narcissist. It's also very easy for them to commit treason, as Trump has clearly shown us.

So, if I understand correctly Trumps drive for making speech free again = he is thin skinned.

While woke posters slamming the report button and tech censors that forbade discussion of bad news for democrat stories = the left are thick skinned.

It is well noted the left talk in opposites.

Still, incapable of making any sense without the crutch of copy&paste.

Can you show some examples of trumps drive for free speech among the numerous lawfare suits he has initiated and the treatment of protesters that are suppose to have free speeech rights? Or his repeated attempts at censorship of media coverage on any issue that shows him to be the buffoon he really is?

Banning EU employees from entering the USA is a good example.

A sign of Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

trump ticks all the boxes for someone with NPD.

His Truth Social posts on Christmas Eve were alarming. Among other things, he went on a tirade against late-night TV hosts. Even suggesting that Stephen Colbert "be put to sleep".

“Stephen Colbert is a pathetic trainwreck, with no talent or anything else necessary for show business success,” the president seethed.

“Now, after being terminated by CBS, but left out to dry, he has actually gotten worse, along with his nonexistent ratings. Stephen is running on hatred and fumes – A dead man walking! CBS should, ‘put him to sleep,’ NOW, it is the humanitarian thing to do!”

A pleasant Christmas message.
