Thailand’s Interior Ministry has mandated enhanced safety measures for the upcoming New Year celebrations, focusing on strict controls of fireworks, floating lanterns, and gunfire. Governors across the nation will coordinate 24/7 patrols and enforce legal action against offenders to ensure public safety during this festive period. The initiative involves collaboration with multiple departments under the ministry's supervision to manage the influx of people traveling home and visiting holiday destinations.

Authorities emphasize home and venue safety by urging residents to verify electrical systems and secure gas valves before leaving homes. Joint patrols comprising local volunteers, rangers, and police will guard communities to prevent burglaries in residents' absence. Hotels and entertainment venues will see increased enforcement, with under-20s banned, and checks for weapons, drugs, and emergency preparedness will be mandatory to uphold safety at events.

The ministry highlights a crackdown on fireworks, rockets, floating lanterns, and celebratory gunfire, aiming for strict compliance with existing laws to avoid endangerment to lives and property. The "Interior Ministry Do It Now: Action 5" policy prioritizes economic stimulation, border security, drug prevention, disaster response, and public order to create a comprehensive safety net during the celebrations.

Looking forward, provinces are tasked with developing detailed response plans for potential cold weather and flooding issues, with particular attention to haze, wildfires, and PM2.5 pollution in the north. The government insists on strict legal actions against pollution sources, and hotlines, including the Damrongtham Centre’s 1567 and the disaster hotline 1784, are open 24/7 for reporting any incidents, The Nation.

Key Takeaways

  • Governors enforce enhanced safety measures for New Year 2026.
  • Stricter laws on fireworks and floating lanterns to prevent accidents.
  • Disaster plans focus on cold weather, flooding, and pollution control.

Come on....Is this World war 3 , or firework showvs for a few hours?

The government is once again busy keeping an eye on all those citizens, on the road, in all the streets, even in their homes? That won't be long now, thanks to the internet.

Crazy Thailand...

What no gunfire ! how disappointing, that'll ruin my new years eve......:cheesy:

Same sad story as last year and the ones before.

Like every other crack down, all talk, but nobody shows up

The cops will be too busy indulging :drunk: in the food and drink made possible by all the kind folk who were booked in December

Another impotent statement.  There will be continuous fireworks, lanterns and sporadic gunfire from the 30th to about the 7th January with zero police action, regular injuries and no sleep in the popular areas.

It's like the road safety 'crackdown'.

I was thinking more about the fiery lanterns coming back to earth somewhere and the random gunfire causing injuries or worse.
