A four-month-old baby has died and three family members were injured after a pickup truck overturned on a steep mountain road in Phitsanulok province while travelling home for the New Year holiday. The crash occurred at 9.40am on 30 December 2025 on Khao Khom Ma Road, a shortcut route linking Chat Trakan district in Phitsanulok with Thong Saen Khan district in Uttaradit. The incident left the parents and surviving child in shock at the scene.

Police said the vehicle involved was a white Mitsubishi pickup truck with Sakon Nakhon registration plates, carrying a family of four. The injured were a 32-year-old man, his 25-year-old wife, and their two-year-old son, all of whom sustained abrasions to various parts of their bodies. The baby, a four-month-old boy, suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the initial report, the family was driving downhill through a series of curves when the driver lost control. The vehicle overturned and came to rest upside down. Rescue workers found the survivors in a state of shock, embracing each other and crying uncontrollably as assistance arrived.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Pradiphant Inno, an investigating officer at Chat Trakan Police Station, received the emergency call and travelled to the scene with rescue personnel from Phitsanulok and the Prasat Boon Sathan Foundation. The injured were transported to Chat Trakan Hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that the road section where the crash occurred is known for its steep descent and continuous bends.

Officers examined the scene and carried out a full investigation to determine the precise cause. Khoasod reported the incident occurred during the peak New Year travel period, when traffic volumes increase significantly across regional routes. Officials have reiterated the need for caution when using mountainous and winding roads.

Was the child in a car seat?

You can guess.

Granddaughter has one for her toddler. That's in a limousine/saloon.

Doubt that such pickup even has proper fixings.

99% the baby was sitting on someone's lap.

Driver uneducated (by system of "driving tests" that are a joke).

Don't know when to use lower gear or select S or L in automatic.

At 4 months I doubt it was standing. Could have been in mum's arms though.

I suspect driving a pickup like a sports car is to blame.
