Best place to get passport photos done?

Featured Replies

I'm about to try and renew my Aussie passport online and believe the Embassy in Bkk is quite fussy when it comes to the quality/clarity of the photos, and seems like they reject quite a lot of them. Anyone done the renewal online and had their photos accepted without problems, if so, where were they done?

Never taken fingerprints and renewals can be done online, no need to go to Embassy.

Wow, lucky.

Presumably you need a digital photo, any of the kodak shops should be able to do it, two on Thepprasit

Thanks. I think that hard copies can be sent first and if the embassy isn't satisfied then digital copies can be emailed.

The US is very picky as well.

Record the Aussie specs and I suggest the Kodak shop.on Tappraya same block.approaching the Jomtien beach.

The staff there understands very well how important passport photos are and how specific the specs are depending on nation.

Go.over the specs with them then review.the choice of photos they take.

In my case there was one minor issue that might have been rejected by the embassy. They were very willing to do a second series without any whining. I was very Impressed with both their attitude and service.

Some say that they sent hard copies of the passport photos others just the digital copies emailed. Haven't started the process yet so not sure. All I know is that a trip to the Aussie embassy in Bkk isn't necessary, which is what I wanted.

Is that opposite Jomtien complex or further down towards the beach?

Near the beach.

Forgot to mention that the staff spoke English.

I remember getting PP photos from the machines, you'd sit inside put the coins in and a strip of 4 photos came out. How times have changed.

'I think'.....that's really helpful....

Ancient history... let's stay with current policies / requirements.

Yes very different now, because of the need for more security.

Already said I haven't started the application process yet, so not here to answer questions, but to ask where is a good passport shop, as it says in the header.

I renewed my Australian passport online a few months ago via the embassy in Bangkok. The studio photo was rejected for being too glossy and unscanable. They asked me to send a digital photo by email so I sent 2 different photos and asked them to choose. They chose the one taken against a white wall by my phone.. Excellent communication and service, and the new passport arrived in 2 weeks.

Was the digital photos the same as the hard copy? I assume the studio photo was sent via Thai Post? Was that the only thing that had to be posted, everything else was done online?

As far as I remember, you enter your passport details online and a renewal application form is prepared for you which you then have to print out, sign, and send by EMS Thai Post with photo and a self-addressed envelope. Payment was made and acknowledged online and a paper receipt sent with the new passport. I used different digital photos to the original hard copy ‘cos I didn’t really like it anyway.

Contact the Australian Embassy in Bangkok and ask them do they have a photographer in Jontiem to use. In November I did my renewal in Chaing Mai and they reject my photos. They gave me one in Chaing Mai. When I returned they were accepted. Good luck.

Just check online the photo requirements, for UK it's very specific, maybe the same, then go to kodak shop and say passport photos Australia, UK whatever, they usually have examples to show you

Soi Buakhao, few shop houses North East (towards Lengkhee) from Cheap Charlies. Guy seems to know what is required for each photos use.

  • 3 weeks later...

It is a lottery, I had to submit at least five sets of photos before I had a set that was acceptable. Allwere done at reputable shops including both kodak shops mentioned. I finally got kodak Jomtien by tt money exchange to send me photos in pdf form or similar and a friend tried to further enhance and these were accepted. Good luck.

The embassy only has a photo shop in Bangkok that they recommend.

Seems like whoever screens the photos at the Embassy enjoys making applicants jump through hoops.

I got mine done by a very professional guy in Trat, the Aussie embassy tried to tell me they were not good enough, go 'next-door' out on the road, I'm sure someone in the embassy is on the take, in the end they accepted my photos.

I renewed my passport my mail
I had mine done at the Kodak shop in the Wat Chai markets
They rejected the first lot I sent because they didn't like the quality of the paper they were printed on... When I had them taken again I asked the shop to send me copies of them in email so I sent the second lot of photos on better quality paper plus the email ones... They renewed my passport after that

That's not the first time I've heard that

There is a related issue that I want to mention.

My photos from the Kodak Jomtien looked fine and as said were approved by the embassy.

HOWEVER, when I got the new passport the photo was very whitewashed.

It shocked me actually.

I searched online and found on reddit and that this has happened to other U.S. passport holders though I can't know how often.

I didn't have time before my next extension to even think of asking them to do it again which I understand is free if there is a mistake on the passport (that they made).

I don't know if the embassy department or the embassy would agree it was a mistake though.

Anyway so far I have only used the passport at immigration and at local banks.

It was accepted.

However, it wouldn't shock me if it would be challenged when travelling.

Again the photo itself was NOT whitewashed. So that happened with the printing.

I'm white yeah but not albino.

Not actual help, (sorry) but a comment on my experience.

I had to renew my UK PP and attempted to use some (allegedly approved) pics I had taken in Pattaya.

I'd used them for Thai and Cambodian visas / extensions with no problems.

However, they were refused by UK's Identity and Passport Service, and i had to get others taken.

I had checked the file sizes and picture resolution (PPI and DPI) and they appeared to be compliant but were refused by the automatic checker.

It was no biggie as i was in UK at the time but something about the UK checking process caused them to be refused. I have to assume that they were regarded as a security risk of some sort but I don't know for sure.

I suspect that Oz might be the same.

US Passport but

Central Color Lab and Print Services

On right past Central Mall.

Been using him for years. You will need to provide him the size requirements.
