NATO is finished if Trump takes Greenland

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has issued a dire warning: NATO could be on the brink of collapse if Trump follows through on his interest in acquiring Greenland! This stark claim comes after Trump's renewed focus on the strategic, mineral-rich Arctic island following the US military operation in Venezuela, which saw Nicolás Maduro captured.

The surprise operation sent global shockwaves, raising alarms in Denmark and Greenland—a semi-autonomous territory crucial to NATO. Frederiksen and Greenlandic leader Jens Frederik Nielsen have strongly condemned Trump’s remarks, warning of disastrous implications for the Western alliance. Such a move could destabilize the region and shake Europe's confidence in NATO's unity.

Frederiksen stated that any US military action against a NATO country would shatter decades of established security. Trump has long eyed Greenland for its strategic advantages, particularly highlighted after Venezuela’s operations. His hints at possible military intervention have set nerves on edge across the continent.

Trump’s dismissive commentary about Denmark's defense efforts and exaggerated claims of Russian and Chinese ships near Greenland only add fuel to the fire. His statement, "Let's talk about Greenland in 20 days," has sparked fears of imminent US intervention, leaving European nations uneasy.

Nielsen urged calm, reassuring citizens that Greenland is not comparable to Venezuela, emphasizing the need for cooperation and unity. He reiterated that Greenland cannot simply be conquered, standing firm against external pressure.

Greenland hosts the US-operated Pituffik Space Base, a key asset for NATO's missile defense and space surveillance efforts. The base underscores the island’s strategic importance, making it a focal point in global power dynamics.

Tensions escalated further with a controversial social media post from Katie Miller, depicting Greenland as part of the American flag. Denmark responded strongly, demanding respect for its territorial integrity. Jesper Moller Sorensen, Denmark's Ambassador to Washington, emphasized the need for mutual respect and cooperation.

The US remains a vital ally, with Denmark recently purchasing American F-35 fighter jets and approving US military bases on its soil. However, critics argue this compromises Danish sovereignty, reflecting deep-seated concerns over national integrity.

As these tensions unfold, Denmark continues to assert its sovereignty, highlighting Greenland's critical role in global balance. The international community watches closely as diplomatic pressure mounts, with Frederiksen leading efforts to preserve regional stability and NATO's strength in the face of potential US ambitions.

Key Takeaways

  • NATO at risk: Denmark warns against US moves on Greenland.

  • Strategic stakes: Greenland sought for security advantages.

  • Diplomatic drama: European unity against US ambitions.

Dissolution of NATO would be a nice side effect of acquiring Greenland.

  • Good. It's a massive waste of time anyway. Ditch it.

An end to the US military presence in Europe would be seen by many as a positive development.

Not so sure that's a bad thing. When countries are slinging nukes around, what good do military alliances do?

Good. It's a massive waste of time anyway. Ditch it.

Who said anything about acquiring? If Team Trump decides to take it as per our national security interests, who has the military capability to stop it?

(per recent comments of Dep. Chief of Staff Miller)

It is so strange that Europe is preparing for war with Russia considering Vlad never said he want European land while America openly said it wants a piece of Denmark.

I believe congress passed a law under Biden prohibiting the president from leaving Nato without congressional approval. Movement of troops was also limited. What it doesn't do, of course, is prevent the Europeans from scrapping the deal and demanding the US leave Europe. What if that is Trump's plan? Anger the Europeans so much that they demand an end to the US in Europe. Machiavellian Trump. Who'd a thought it?

Maybe; but it still diverts MAGA away from the economy. I don't live in the US but how is it going? Price of groceries, health care, gasoline et al.

Maybe Trump's whole Greenland thing is a way to break NATO. Perhaps that is the main goal. Would play right into Putin's hands that's for sure.

Wasn't NATO the US's idea originally. To counter Russia. So maybe Russia is no longer a threat?

Bipartisan bill and advocated by Marco Rubio. Tortured soul Marco will have to do serious soul searching if Trump followed through with his Nato withdrawal.

Well, I assume that the sale of Pampers must have skyrocketed over the last days in foremost Brussels, Berlin, Paris and London. Rutte and Von der Leyen are seriously busy shopping nappies and baby powder, the rest of Europe's "leadership" closing up.

Maduro might or might not be a corrupt self-centered individual but remains a Venezuelan issue. The US, or for that matter any other sovereign, has to accept that. The US have, again, executed an act of war. Trump and his cronies could not care less about Venezuela or its people, it is the 300+ billion barrels of oil, all those American oil companies and the readjustment of the Petro dollar. Maduro shoulder rubbed with the Chinese, sold his oil below world-market price against the Yuan and the Chinese took up more than 50% of Venezuela's oil production in the last few years.

After some strong verbal notes of diplomatic nature nobody will dare to p1ss into the gardens of the White House, the dollar will rise, the Americans get their oil supplies secured and it will be business as usual.

Should, however, Trump not stop here and now, then WW3 is guaranteed - and possibly the world needs again a proper clean-up. Do away with absolutely useless clubs-of-friends like the United Nations, ASEAN, NATO, EU and the like. Recalibrate the planet's system and its politics; at the moment most countries are run by mad thieves and gangster taking, worldwide, its electorate for a big ride on the planet's merry-go-round!

1st order of business. kick Nato out of communist run NY .. I think someplace like Bismark North Dakota would be ideal

that would also send a chill up Mamdani's back .. he could turn UN plaza into a state funded housing projet for all his imported cronies

Trump shoud follow suit and cut the US share of funding down like 90%

Squeeze it !

Europe could go BRICS.

Get out of the USD , cut US out of SWIFT .

Don't trade or accept USD.

Sell al US bonds.

Make China #1 trading partner.

Yes, that's exactly what wil eventually happen, not only with NATO but with everything. Europe will join BRICS, drop the 7 high-techs, embark the Chinese alternatives in AI, no more Teslas, Meta, Google and Amazon. What children in 50 years will read in their school books, how a leading country was giving away all their cards in just 4 years time.

Only the Chinese & Russians will be laughing if Trump actually makes his move.

If it happened there would have to be a European/EU military force. Maybe not a bad idea, but the UK would have to make sure it's part of it.

I can't see Reform agreeing to that.

Haha. They'd probably prefer to be a US state.

Seems a reasonable position if one had to choose between the two.

I'm genuinely surprised. I thought you were a patriot! 🇬🇧

Perhaps you misread it?

If one "had" to choose between the two. Fortunately, now that Britain has left the EU we are able to reject both options. That's sovereignty for you.

Viva Brexit.
